Kane POV

“I hate to say this, but Mason has a point,” Braden says as we drive to Elara’s place. “We could do more bad than good being here. And he was running from house to house; he didn’t have ti to call.”

“Fuck that,” Axel snorts. “If he weren’t all hot and bothered for Elara, he would’ve made the ti to call us. And how is he going to get her out of there by himself? Fuck, I don’t even know how the six of us will accomplish it.”

“I believe Alpha Axel is right,” Monroe says from the backseat. “There’s always ti to call for backup.”

“See?” Axel looks at Braden in the rearview mirror. “Case and point.”

“I’m mind linking Elara,” I cut off the argunt, and everyone stayed quiet.

“So?” Braden asks urgently when Axel and I share a look. “What did she say?”

“Nothing good,” Axel exhales deeply, taking out his phone. “I’m calling Mason.”

“What the fuck’s going on?” Braden asks, his voice climbing an octave.

“Gustav’s there,” I reply. “And he can mind link with his pets.”

“And we should bring fire,” Axel adds, putting his phone away. “Follow Mason, he’ll take us to the closest gas station.”

We speed towards the gas station, and nobody wants to talk anymore. We are all concerned and praying that we make it on ti. The gas station is deserted when we arrive, and we get out of the truck.

“I guess the people listened to my warning,” Mason ntions. “Stay back, I’m going to ram the door.”

Mason gets into his truck and drives straight into the front door, shattering the glass. I rush forward, trying to bend the burglar bars.

“You’re wasting your ti,” Mason chuckles. “This is a rogue town, rember? Everything’s wolf-proof.”

“I can squeeze through here,” Mindy sighs, bending and twisting her body past the damaged burglar bars. “Tell what you need.”

“Glass bottles,” Axel replies. “Doesn’t matter what’s in it, we’re throwing it out. And activate the pumps.”

“Look for rags,” I add. “Any form of clothing.”

“And lighters,” Mason shouts.

We wait impatiently for Mindy to push the stuff underneath the bars, and we empty the glass bottles and fill them with gasoline.

“I found these,” Mindy announces proudly, pushing tiki torches toward us. “I thought it might help.”

“You’re a star, Mindy,” I smile, and she glows proudly under my complint. “That’s enough, co on out.”

She wiggles through, and we all hurry to our trucks and speed off.

Elara POV

Gustav and I have been shouting at each other for Goddess knows how long. I have been taunting and mocking him rcilessly, and I am running out of insults. Not that I thought that I ever would. In other words, my mates better get here soon, or I am the subjects’ next dinner.

Gustav glares at with hatred, and I figure he has had enough of . I know because his pets stand up and start walking towards . They are done playing.

I raise my palms and summon the wind. Kicking up dirt to obscure the subject’s view and blowing Gustav off his feet and onto his ass.

“What the hell was that?” Gustav frowns, standing up and dusting himself off.

“Mother Nature,” I snap. “She doesn’t like you either.”

“You,” he points a bony finger at . “You can manipulate nature.”

“Are you crazy?” I snort, rolling my eyes. I will use my powers to save myself, but I am going to hide them from him as long as I can. Once he figures it out, I am going to be more of a target. “If I could control nature, I would’ve ordered the earth to open and swallow you. Or I would’ve conjured a storm, and ...”

“Fine, I get it,” he huffs. “It was ...”

Gustav swallows his words when two trucks speed our way, and I sigh in relief. My mates are here!

“Elara, we’re going to pull under the tree,” Axel mind links. “Jump on.”

“Ready,” I reply.

They ride straight to the subjects, but they do not move. They stare at them stoically, eyes glowing and fangs exposed, while Gustav moves behind them, using them as a shield.

When a truck is right under , I jump onto the back, and Braden calls into his arms.

“Hold on,” he says close to my ear, pulling into a sitting position.

I cling to Braden as the truck makes a U-turn in front of the subjects. Imdiately, they follow us down the road.

I notice Monroe for the first ti when he and Braden stand up, open a glass bottle and put a rag into it. Monroe lights the rag, and Braden throws the can at the oncoming subjects. The bottle smashes into pieces on the road, spreading flas as the gasoline spills everywhere.

A second bottle flies towards the subjects, and I notice Mason and Maxim in the back of the other truck.

“Dammit, I hoped they’d be afraid of fire after a burnt one,” I grunt as two of the subjects burst through the flas.

“Keep on throwing,” Braden replies. “Even if we don’t kill them all, we need to get away, and we’re running out of places to hide.”

“I’ll spread the fire,” I say, lifting my palms and summoning the wind.

When the next bottle hits the road, I send wind, prompting the flas higher and wider. The n keep tossing bottles, and soon there is a wall of flas behind us.

“That should do it,” Braden exhales deeply when the subjects do not appear again.

“At least we know that fire works,” I say, sitting down. “Oh, and after today, I am certain I’m number one on Gustav’s wanted list.”
