ON THE third floor of the Ilsung Gangnam was a café called Universe Coffee.

Sohee ordered the café’s special drink called ’Dreamy Latte.’

It was just actually a simple art latte, but with this exciting part: he provided the barista with a picture of GoldHee. Then the barista recreated the image on the coffee milk foam.

And it’s cute.

Kim Heedo, who had no originality, just copied Sohee’s order and even used the sa image of GoldHee.

The catch is you have to use an Ilsung smartphone when showing the picture.

"Hyung, I’m really sorry for keeping it a secret from you."

Sohee was busy admiring the café’s beautiful and relaxing interior when Kim Heedo finally broke the awkward silence.

"To be honest, it wasn’t like I kept it a secret on purpose," Kim Heedo continued with his explanation. "My parents did an intensive background check on Hyung the first ti Grandfather insisted that I have to marry you. Of course, that included Hyung’s parents’ background. But it completely slipped off my mind, and Hyung hasn’t ntioned your mother since we got married..."

Right.

The thought of asking Kim Heedo to find my mother didn’t even cross my mind.

"I just rembered about the existence of Hyung’s half-brother when you ntioned you see Cho Euntak as your younger brother, Hyung," Kim Heedo said. The more he talked, the more he sounded guilty. "I’m really sorry for keeping my mouth shut all this ti."

"That’s enough apologizing, Kim Heedo," Sohee said, sighing. "I’m not mad at you. I only kept my mouth shut because I was thinking."

Kim Heedo looked relieved by what he said. "What are you thinking about, Hyung?"

"Whether to ask you questions about my mother’s new family or not."

When Sohee was younger, he used to wonder a lot about his mother.

But when he got older and loan sharks started ruining his life, he stopped thinking about his mother altogether.

I was just glad that Eomma didn’t have to suffer with .

"Spill it, Kim Heedo," Sohee said after making a decision. "Tell everything you know about my mother."

"Your mother married a Beta nad Go Junho three months after she left your family."

"Eomma was already divorced when she left us?"

"That seems to be the case."

Sohee had a feeling that it was his grandfather who helped his mother divorce his father.

I don’t think Abeoji would have made it easy for Eomma to divorce him.

"Go Junho-ssi was also your mother’s childhood friend. They t each other again a month before your mother left your family."

Ah.

It wasn’t sothing that Sohee would hold against his mother, though.

My deadbeat father baby trapped my mother. If it wasn’t for , my mother would have left my father a long ti ago. It didn’t end there. My father also emotionally, verbally, and physically abused my mother.

Hence, even if Sohee’s mother fell in love with another man while still married to his deadbeat father, he wouldn’t bla his mother.

I’m not excusing emotional cheating— I’m just saying I understand.

"Three months after your mother started living in the countryside with her great aunt, she t Go Junho-ssi again who also returned to their hotown."

Oh.

So, that ant Sohee’s mother and Go Junho only rekindled their relationship after his mother had already divorced his father.

I’m relieved.

"After two months, your mother and Go Junho decided to get married," Kim Heedo continued. "Then, a year later, your baby brother was born. His na is Go Gunjoon."

Sohee gulped hard before asking. "What’s my half-brother’s Secondary Gender?"

"He’s a Beta. For now."

The ’for now’ part wasn’t strange.

There are late bloors like Cho Euntak, after all.

"Is he in high school?"

Kim Heedo nodded. "He must be in his sophomore year at the mont."

"Are they living well?"

"Go Junho-ssi has a pear farm in Naju, and they supply those pears to big restaurant chains here in Seoul," Kim Heedo said awkwardly. "Go Junho-ssi and your mother moved to Seoul when your half-brother entered middle school. Go Junho-ssi still runs the pear farm while your mother opened a small fruit stall in a market near their neighborhood. The last report I received suggested that their family was living well. Your half-brother, Go Gunjoon, is smart. He got accepted into a private high school through a scholarship program. And he’s known as one of the smartest kids in the country ever since his middleschool days."

A big part of Sohee was happy and relieved to hear that his mother and new family were living well.

But a small part of him was bitter.

Eomma is living well. Did she not think of coming back for ? Not even once?

"I guess Eomma is already so satisfied with her new life that she has already forgotten about ," Sohee said out loud. "After all, she has a competent husband and a smart son now."

"Hyung, I know you suffered, but I think you’re doing better than your mother."

"Huh?"

"Your mother still has to work despite her husband being an okay provider, but you’re already set for life even if you don’t work in the future," Kim Heedo said, and then he pointed at himself. "And you have . I’m not a good husband to you yet, but at least I’m handso and rich." He paused for a mont, and then he avoided Sohee’s gaze as if he was shy. "And if you want a child in the future, I’m confident that I can give you a child who’s smarter and more competent than your half-brother."

Does Kim Heedo think I’m competing with my mother?

Sohee knew that Kim Heedo only said that to make him feel better.

But why do I feel like he’s half-serious?

Now he couldn’t help but think it was funny.

"Kim Heedo, why would I compete with my mother to know who has a better life than the other?" Sohee asked, laughing while clutching his stomach. "You’re funny, brat."

"Are you feeling better now, Hyung?"

"Can’t you see I’m in stitches?"

Kim Heedo’s face bead. "I’m glad, Hyung. I know we can’t replace your mother, but please know that and my family are here for you."

"I know that," Sohee said, smiling. "Thank you, Heedo-ya."

***

SOHEE had a long phone conversation with his mother-in-law.

My mother-in-law gave an update on my case.

He really didn’t understand much of the technicalities, but he was sure that the kidnappers would end up in jail.

"Hyung, what do you want for dinner?"

"Lobster?"

"Oh, fancy," Kim Heedo teased Sohee, his eyes glued to the road while driving. "Are you sure you’re ready to return to school tomorrow?"

"Yeah. I don’t want to have more absences," Sohee said. "Cho Euntak made a story and said I got into a minor car accident."

His life was so dramatic that he’d be the center of attention again if people found out that he was kidnapped instead of Lee Junsu.

And, as far as I know, Lee Junsu’s agency released an official statent saying that Lee Junsu had a panic attack. Hence, he missed the festival performance. After that, his agency announced that Lee Junsu would be taking a break to recuperate.

Wow.

I’m updated on Lee Junsu’s life.

"Heedo-ya, I’m planning to treat my class to dinner or sothing as an apology for not helping during the festival," Sohee said, deciding to focus on his life instead of Lee Junsu. "Would you like to have a joint dinner party? My class and yours."

"I don’t mind. But why did you suddenly think of doing that? I already treated my class to a few rounds of drinking yesterday as an apology."

"Yes, and Cho Euntak said you sent several boxes of pizza to our class under my na."

Sohee was touched when he heard that from Cho Euntak.

Kim Heedo didn’t even ntion that to .

"Even so, I feel like we still owe them a proper apology," Sohee said, pausing for a mont. "And Hong Sera said your sunbaes are still giving you a hard ti because you skipped the second day of the festival. If I explained what happened, then maybe they’d stop bothering you."

"Don’t worry about it, Hyung," Kim Heedo said, frowning. "My sunbae-nims don’t deserve even a second of your ti."

Sohee heard Kim Heedo loud and clear, but...

Maybe I’m really an adrenaline junkie deep inside.
