Chapter 64 — THE FATHER’S RETURN

The corridor leading to the grand foyer stretched ahead of Elena and Adrian like a tunnel of dread. Marcus moved quickly in front of them, glancing back with a tight, anxious expression. The sound of raised voices drifted through the mansion—sharp, heated, slicing through the air like blades.

Elena felt her stomach clench.

Adrian’s father was back.

And this ti, he wasn’t alone.

Adrian’s steps were tense, long, and deliberate. Every angle of his body scread battle-readiness. His jaw was locked so hard Elena wondered if it hurt. She could practically feel the fury radiating off him.

Marcus paused at the top of the staircase.

"You both need to be prepared," he said quietly. "He didn’t co for a discussion. He ca to attack."

Adrian’s eyes narrowed. "Who did he bring?"

Lydia stepped into the mansion’s light from below.

Elena froze.

There she was—Lydia—her expression calm, confident, almost smug. Her long waves were perfectly arranged, her expensive coat wrapped around her slender fra. The mont her gaze lifted and t Elena’s, a cool smile curved her lips.

"Yes," Lydia answered sweetly, as if she had been invited. "He brought ."

Adrian’s jaw flexed. His hands curled into fists.

"Why is she here?" he demanded.

Before Lydia could reply, a deep, authoritative voice echoed through the foyer:

"She’s here because she belongs here. Because she has the right to defend herself after everything that has been done to her."

Adrian’s father stepped fully into view.

The last ti Elena saw him, he was composed, intimidating, dangerous. This ti he was worse. His face was set with an expression harder than marble, his eyes burning with accusation. His presence filled the room like a storm front, towering and suffocating.

Adrian moved forward, placing himself slightly in front of Elena—a small gesture, but one that Lydia imdiately noticed.

And despised.

"You brought her here," Adrian said coldly, "after everything she caused?"

Mr. Kane lifted his chin. "Watch how you speak."

Adrian didn’t blink. "Then stop bringing trash into my ho."

Lydia inhaled sharply. "I won’t allow—"

"Allow?" Adrian snapped. "You don’t have the power to allow anything here."

Elena placed a hand gently on Adrian’s forearm—not to stop him, but to anchor him. His eyes flicked to her for a brief second, and she saw it clearly: the tension, the fury, the protectiveness.

Mr. Kane stepped forward.

"Adrian, you’re making a fool of yourself over this woman."

Elena stiffened.

"This woman," Adrian repeated slowly, dangerously, "is my wife."

"She is the reason this family is falling apart!" Mr. Kane barked. "Everything was stable until you married her."

"Stable?" Adrian laughed once, humorless. "You an controlled."

Mr. Kane ignored him and pointed straight at Elena.

"That girl insulted this family. She disrespected us. She—"

"No," Adrian cut in sharply, "she didn’t." He took a step closer. "You lied. You and Lydia both lied. She never said anything about using us. You repeated a false accusation because you wanted control over my marriage."

Lydia stepped beside Mr. Kane, her voice smooth.

"I didn’t lie. I heard what I heard."

Adrian’s stare sharpened like a blade. "Say that again. Look in the eye and repeat it."

Lydia hesitated.

A single heartbeat.

But that pause was enough.

Adrian laughed again—cold, sharp. "You can’t. Because you know you’re lying."

Mr. Kane’s voice bood through the foyer. "I acted in your best interest!"

"No," Adrian growled, "you acted in your own interest."

The air crackled. Each word ignited the space between father and son.

Then Mr. Kane turned his attention back to Elena.

"You destroyed my son."

Elena opened her mouth—slowly, softly—to respond.

But Adrian stepped forward, shielding her with his body.

"She saved ," he said quietly, firmly, undeniably. "You are the one destroying ."

Lydia’s face twisted, her mask slipping for a fraction of a second.

Mr. Kane slamd his hand against the marble railing. "If you continue down this path, you will lose everything—your inheritance, your reputation, this company."

Adrian didn’t even flinch. "Then I’ll rebuild everything myself."

The shock on his father’s face was genuine. Lydia’s eyes widened.

Elena realized sothing in that mont—

Adrian wasn’t the sa man he had been at the start.

Not the cold, ruthless billionaire driven by vengeance.

Not the broken son ruled by his father’s expectations.

He was... changing.

For her.

For himself.

Mr. Kane’s voice dropped, low and dangerous.

"You are choosing her over your blood."

Adrian’s reply was imdiate.

"I’m choosing truth over manipulation."

Lydia’s patience snapped.

"This is ridiculous!" she shouted, stepping forward. "Adrian, can’t you see what she’s doing? Elena is poisoning you. She turned you against us. She—"

A sudden crack echoed through the mansion.

Everyone froze.

Adrian had slamd his hand into the glass table beside him, the impact loud enough to make Lydia jump. The table trembled but did not break.

"Don’t ever say her na like that again," he warned.

Elena looked at him—his breathing was heavy, his eyes dark, but the temper was not directed at her. Not anymore.

Mr. Kane exhaled slowly. "If you walk away from this family over her, I will cut you off from the Kane legacy."

Adrian didn’t hesitate.

"Then cut off."

Silence exploded.

Marcus swallowed hard.

Even Lydia took a step back.

Mr. Kane stared at his son as if he didn’t recognize him.

"You would abandon everything for a woman who has done nothing for you?"

Adrian turned to Elena. Gently—so gently it didn’t match the fury around them—he took her hand.

Everything?

Elena thought she couldn’t breathe.

"She did everything for ," he said. "She survived when no one else could."

Mr. Kane’s eyes darkened.

"This was your last warning."

He motioned to Lydia.

"We’re leaving."

But as Lydia followed him toward the entrance, she stopped halfway and turned back to Elena.

"I’m not done," she whispered, her voice venomous but quiet. "You’re not going to win."

Elena raised her chin—not angry, not afraid.

"We’ll see."

Lydia glared, then walked out.

The doors shut with a deep echo.

The mansion fell into profound silence.

Marcus exhaled shakily. "Good lord... I thought he was going to hit soone."

Adrian did not move. He was still holding Elena’s hand as if afraid she might vanish if he let go.

"Elena," he whispered.

She looked up.

"I ant every word."

The vulnerability in his eyes pierced her.

She swallowed, stepping closer.

"I know," she breathed.

He touched her cheek—hesitant, reverent. "I’m not done proving it."

Elena felt her chest tighten with emotions she had no words for.

"Then don’t stop," she whispered.

Adrian leaned his forehead against hers, breathing her in.

"I won’t."

For the first ti in a long ti, there was no wall between them. No lies. No fear. No revenge.

Only the beginning of sothing raw and real.

Outside, thunder rumbled.

Inside, the truth had finally been spoken—

And nothing in the Kane family would ever be the sa again.
