"Zhou Wenxiu..."

Cheng Huiyun recited the na, her face looking displeased.

"Isn’t she your stepmother?"

"Wasn’t she already arrested?"

Gu Zhen Guo put down his chopsticks and looked at Lin Wan Yi.

"You plan to go?"

Lin Wan Yi nodded, folding the notice neatly.

"I have to go."

"It’s the things my mother left behind."

Gu Yanshen stood up and walked to her side.

"I’ll go with you."

Cheng Huiyun imdiately chid in.

"Yes, yes, let Yanshen accompany you!"

"In such places, with so many eyes and people, it’s not good to go without a man!"

Gu Zhen Guo didn’t say anything, just gave Lin Wan Yi a deep gaze.

The next day.

Beijing Revolutionary Committee, Office No. 3.

The sll of old papers and mildew mixed together, making the atmosphere uncomfortable.

A bespectacled clerk sat behind the desk without lifting his head.

"What do you want?"

Lin Wan Yi handed over the notice.

"Hello, comrade, my na is Lin Wan Yi, here to claim my mother’s personal effects."

The clerk took the notice, glancing at it.

"Wait."

He slowly stood up and started rummaging through a large tal cabinet.

Just then, a woman wearing a floral polyester shirt walked in.

Her hair was fashionably perd, and her eyebrows were trimd thin and sharp.

"Xiao Li, when can we get back my aunt’s things?"

There was a natural air of superiority in her voice.

The clerk, Xiao Li, turned his head, forcing a smile.

"Sister Zhou Fang, soon, very soon, we’re working on inventorying them."

The woman known as Zhou Fang shifted her gaze to Lin Wan Yi.

She looked Lin Wan Yi up and down, a scrutinizing and disdainful look in her eyes.

"Are you the one nad Lin Wan Yi?"

Lin Wan Yi said nothing.

Zhou Fang sneered.

"My aunt, Zhou Wenxiu, was ruined by your family!"

"And now you have the nerve to co claim sothing? You must be shaless."

Lin Wan Yi remained indifferent.

"I’m just here to reclaim my mother’s effects."

"Your mother?"

Zhou Fang seed to have heard a ridiculous joke.

"A capitalist’s wife who’s been dead for ages, what good things could she have left?"

"I’ll tell you, those capitalist trinkets were disposed of as trash long ago!"

She approached Lin Wan Yi, lowering her voice, her face full of malice.

"I advise you not to waste your effort."

"Or do you just want to use this excuse to extort sothing?"

The clerk, Xiao Li, stood aside, at a loss.

Lin Wan Yi ignored Zhou Fang’s provocation.

She took a neatly folded, yellowing paper from her cloth bag.

She laid it out on the clerk’s desk.

"Comrade."

Her voice was calm.

"This is the inventory list of effects written by my mother, Ms. Jiang, in her own hand. It bears her personal seal."

"There are a total of twenty-seven items, please verify."

The handwriting on the list was graceful and firm, with each item’s na and characteristics clearly written.

In the lower right corner, a vermilion "Jiang" seal, elegant and striking.

Zhou Fang’s face turned pale abruptly.

She hadn’t expected Lin Wan Yi to keep such a thing!

"Y-you forged this!"

Zhou Fang said in a mix of anger and sha, reaching to grab the list.

Lin Wan Yi sidestepped, letting her grasp air.

"Xiao Li! What are you standing there for!"

Zhou Fang screeched at the clerk.

"She’s here causing trouble! Get her out now!"

Xiao Li flinched from her yell, unsure whom to heed.

"Slap!"

A crisp sound echoed.

The office fell silent instantly.

Gu Yanshen had sohow reached the desk.

A red ID was slamd onto the table by him.

The cover glead with the golden national emblem.

He remained silent, only using his cold, ice-like eyes to stare at the clerk.

Xiao Li’s gaze fell on the ID, the word "Regintal" seared into his eyes like a branding iron.

His knees began to tremble.

"S-Sir..."

"My wife is here per your notification to collect her mother’s lawful effects."

Gu Yanshen’s voice was not loud.

Yet it struck like a hamr on everyone’s hearts.

"Now, soone is obstructing."

"What do you suggest we do?"

Cold sweat poured down Xiao Li’s face.

"I’ll... I’ll get our director imdiately!"

He almost stumbled out, scrambling away.

Within a minute.

A middle-aged man with a bald spot and a protruding belly rushed in.

"Which one is Mr. Gu? Which one is Gu Tuanxing?"

He imdiately spotted the officer’s ID on the desk, and Gu Yanshen standing rigidly beside it.

The man’s face turned white instantly.

"Hello, sir! Hello!"

He ran up to Gu Yanshen, nodding and bowing.

"It’s a misunderstanding! Just a misunderstanding!"

He turned and gave Zhou Fang a thorough scolding.

"Zhou Fang! What’s this ruckus you’re causing!"

"This is an office! Not your ho!"

"Apologize to the officer and this lady imdiately!"

Zhou Fang was utterly speechless.

She looked at the director’s sycophantic face, then at Gu Yanshen’s icy expression.

She realized she had hit a brick wall.

"I... I’m..."

"Sorry..."

She forced out the three words, trembling.

The director wiped the sweat from his forehead, turning to Lin Wan Yi with a sycophantic smile.

"Mr. Lin, please don’t be angry. We’ll retrieve it for you imdiately!"

"I’ll personally escort you to the warehouse!"

The warehouse was covered in dust.

The director led the way, sweeping with a feather duster.

"It should be this one!"

He pulled out an old wooden chest from the corner, secured with a lock.

A yellowed seal was pasted on the chest, with "Jiang Wan’s Effects" written in brush strokes.

The director took out a key and unlocked the brass lock.

The chest was opened.

Inside was nearly empty, containing only a palm-sized small iron box.

Zhou Fang, who followed behind, saw this and couldn’t help but smile smugly.

Twenty-seven items?

Just a broken iron box.

Let’s see how you’ll handle this!

But Lin Wan Yi acted as if she didn’t see her expression.

She took a red string from around her neck.

A small, sowhat rusty brass key dangled from the string.

She stepped forward and inserted the key into the iron box’s lock.

"Click."

A light sound.

The iron box opened.

Everyone leaned in.

There were no gold or silver treasures inside.

Only a thick letter, an even older-looking iron key, and a docunt wrapped ticulously in oiled paper.

Lin Wan Yi carefully took out the docunt and unfolded it.

It was a land deed.

The writing on it was clearly legible.

"Beijing suburb, Ping’an Farm, totaling thirty acres."

Owner: Jiang Wan.

The director’s eyes widened, he leaned over, staring hard at the land deed, sharply inhaling.

"Is... is this Ping’an Farm?"

He pointed at the deed, his voice trembling.

"This farm has always been occupied by Zhou Wenxiu, claiming it as her ancestral property!"

"We’ve just finished repossessing it a few days ago and were planning to nationalize it!"

The director suddenly raised his head, looking at Lin Wan Yi, his eyes filled with shock and disbelief.

"Mr. Lin, you... you have the original land deed."

"Then this farm is yours!"
