"Comrade Lin Wan Yi, on behalf of our departnt, I apologize for the trouble caused to you today."

Sun Ping let out a long sigh of relief.

The other editors in the conference room all showed signs of relief after the ordeal.

Lin Wan Yi remained unmoved.

She simply looked calmly at the disciplinary inspector in front of her.

"I accept the apology."

Her voice was soft, yet it once again strained the recently eased atmosphere.

"However, this matter cannot be left at that."

Sun Ping was stunned.

The inspector was also taken aback.

"Mr. Lin, what do you an?"

"Today’s incident was reported under a real na, but the nature of it was a malicious accusation."

Lin Wan Yi said.

"You ca to act impartially. But your arrival itself represents an attitude."

"Now, Qian Zhenyu has been taken away, but everyone in the corridor saw it. Tomorrow, the entire propaganda system will know that our ’Renminhua Magazine’ has been investigated for ’illegal fundraising’ and ’background issues.’"

Her words were like a scalpel, precisely cutting to the core of the problem.

"The enthusiasm of the public is precious, but also fragile. Even if this bucket of dirty water is washed clean today, stains will remain."

"Who will dare to donate to us in the future? Who will dare to trust us?"

She stepped forward.

"I personally can endure so grievances."

"But the goodwill of people nationwide cannot be tarnished in such a manner. The decades-long clean reputation of ’Renminhua Magazine’ cannot be blemished so ambiguously."

The leading inspector’s forehead was covered in fine sweat.

He completely understood.

The young woman before him was not asking for a re apology.

She wanted an explanation. An official statent adequate enough to silence all rumors.

"Therefore," Lin Wan Yi spoke the answer on his behalf, "I need a formal explanation of the situation."

"Issued by the Disciplinary Inspection Departnt of the Municipal Propaganda Departnt, clarifying the truth of this incident, affirming the positive behavior of reader donations, and supporting our magazine’s plan to prepare the ’Hope Fund.’"

She looked at him.

"I hope this explanation can be publicly published in the next issue of ’Renminhua Magazine.’"

The sound of gasping filled the conference room.

This intends to have the Disciplinary Inspection Departnt publicly endorse them!

What a bold move!

Sun Ping’s heart leaped to his throat.

He watched the inspector nervously, fearing he would flip at the scene.

The leading inspector remained silent for a full half minute.

He looked at Lin Wan Yi, then at the pile of bags stacked high.

Finally, he uttered three words through clenched teeth.

"I agree."

...

With the matter resolved, the two inspectors prepared to leave.

But upon reaching the door, one inspector turned back, pointing at the small mountains of letters.

"Chief Editor Sun, how do you plan to handle these things?"

His tone included a hint of reminder.

"This is not a small amount, if not handled well, problems could arise."

Sun Ping was about to say, "We’ll deposit it in the bank imdiately."

Lin Wan Yi spoke once more.

"The handling thod is simple."

She surveyed the conference room, at the young editors whose faces were still flushed with excitent.

"We handle it now."

She turned to the two disciplinary inspectors.

"Also, I would like to invite both comrades to stay as witnesses."

"Witnesses?"

"Yes."

Lin Wan Yi walked to one of the bags, untied the rope, and poured out all the letters inside.

Rumble——

White envelopes and colorful remittance slips scattered across the floor.

"We are now, here, in front of everyone, sorting out all the remittance slips."

She rolled up her sleeves, revealing a section of fair wrist.

"We will register each one, verifying each transaction."

"Calculate the total amount."

"Then, have both comrades and Chief Editor Sun jointly sign for confirmation, then seal it and store it."

"Tomorrow morning, we will take this checklist with the personal signatures of the Disciplinary Inspection Departnt comrades to the bank to open a temporary public account."

"Full transparency, full disclosure."

She lifted her head, showing a gentle smile to the two inspectors who were completely stunned.

"Handled like this, do you think there would still be any issues?"

...

The entire magazine was ablaze.

The conference room tables were pieced together, forming a huge workstation.

With an order from Sun Ping, all editors, regardless of gender, rushed forward.

"I’ll open the letters!"

"I’ll handle the registration!"

"I’ll count the money!"

The tense eting room instantly transford into a bustling hub of activity.

The sound of envelopes being torn open, the crisp click-clack of abacus beads, and the gasps from young editors upon seeing large remittance slips all intertwined to form the most moving symphony.

The two disciplinary inspection cadres beca re "supervisors."

They stood by, speechless, witnessing the frenzied yet orderly scene.

They had originally co to investigate "illegal fundraising."

Now, they had beco the official notaries of the "illegal fundraising" results.

Lin Wan Yi did not involve herself.

This turmoil had exhausted too much of her energy.

She walked to the corner of the office, picked up the red telephone, and dialed the number for Gu Yanshen’s office.

The call was quickly answered.

"I’m looking for Mr. Gu Yanshen."

After a mont, a deep male voice ca through from the other end.

"It’s ."

"I’m done with everything."

Lin Wan Yi leaned against the wall, her voice carrying a hint of fatigue and softness that even she didn’t notice.

"Could you co get ?"

"Okay."

There were no unnecessary niceties, just a single word.

But Lin Wan Yi knew he would co as quickly as possible.

After hanging up, she gazed out the window.

The sky was gradually darkening.

...

Half an hour later.

A military green jeep pulled up downstairs at the magazine office.

Gu Yanshen strode in, accompanied by his fellow trainee Zhao Tiezhu.

Zhao Tiezhu had a loud voice and started shouting as soon as he entered the building.

"I say, Old Gu, what exactly does your wife do? So secretive, one call and you’re summoned faster than a military command!"

"Shut up."

Gu Yanshen coldly spat out two words.

The two of them walked to the second-floor eting room entrance.

Then, Zhao Tiezhu’s yelling abruptly ceased.

He stood there, stiffened as if hit with an immobilization spell.

What did he see?

A large office was brightly lit.

The floor and tables were piled high with snow-white letters.

A group of people huddled around a table, heads down, counting money.

Yes, counting money.

The colorful bills were being sorted into bundles, tied up with rubber bands, and stacked into small mountains.

The scene was a hundred tis more extravagant than tallying year-end accounts at a supply and marketing cooperative!

"My... oh my..."

Zhao Tiezhu stamred, almost biting his tongue.

"Old Gu... did your wife... rob a bank?"

Gu Yanshen’s gaze ignored the money.

He weaved through the noisy crowd, fixing his eyes on the figure standing in the center, quietly instructing Sun Ping on sothing.

She wore a simple white shirt, her hair a bit disheveled.

Her face showed signs of fatigue, but her posture remained upright.

As she spoke, she pointed at the accounts on the table, clear and composed.

Everyone around was listening to her intently.

She was like a strategic general at the core of this noisy battlefield.

Sun Ping noticed Gu Yanshen at the door and hurriedly waved.

"Mr. Gu! You’re finally here! Co handle your wife! She’s... she’s truly our savior!"

Gu Yanshen walked over.

Zhao Tiezhu dumbfoundedly followed.

Lin Wan Yi looked up and saw him.

She gave him a smile, a smile filled with a sense of relief at finally being able to relax.

Gu Yanshen didn’t speak.

He simply reached out, naturally helping her tuck a stray lock of hair behind her ear.

Still shocked, Zhao Tiezhu tugged at Gu Yanshen’s sleeve, lowered his voice, and asked in a conspiratorial tone.

"Old Gu, what’s going on here? Your wife... what exactly does she do?"

Gu Yanshen’s hand moved from her hair to resting lightly on her shoulder, exuding a sense of undeniable possession and reassurance.

He turned to look at his unworldly comrade.

He didn’t explain anything about the "Hope Fund," nor did he ntion any comics.

He simply stated, in an overwhelmingly calm and incomparably proud tone.

"See that person in charge there?"

Zhao Tiezhu instinctively glanced at Lin Wan Yi, cradled in Gu Yanshen’s arms.

Then, he heard Gu Yanshen’s next three words.

"My wife."
