Gu Yanshen’s palm rested on Lin Wanyi’s lower abdon. That hand, which had pulled the trigger and smashed through walls countless tis, was now stiff like a rock.

His breathing was soft, as if he was afraid to disturb that sacred space.

After a long while, he found his voice again, hoarse and frail.

"I..."

"Brother! How long are you planning to stand there like a stone gazing at your wife?"

Gu Lan’s loud and exaggerated voice shattered the warm atmosphere in the room. She brought over a cup of warm water and rolled her eyes at Gu Yanshen.

"Wanwan is thirsty, move over a bit!"

Gu Yanshen withdrew his hand as if shocked by electricity, stood up straight, and stepped aside, as stiff as a new recruit eting a superior officer for the first ti.

Lin Wanyi was amused by his behavior.

She just reached out her hand, intending to take the water cup.

"Don’t move!"

Gu Yanshen swiftly stepped forward and snatched the cup from Gu Lan’s hand.

He first brought the cup to his lips to test the temperature, and finding it just right,

not trusting his own judgent, handed the cup to Gu Lan.

"You try it."

Gu Lan took a sip with a puzzled expression: "It’s not too hot."

Only then was Gu Yanshen reassured, as he brought the cup to Lin Wanyi’s lips, watching her drink with a focused gaze, as if executing so top-secret mission.

Gu Lan shook her head as she watched.

"It’s over, my brother is completely dumbfounded."

In the following days, the entire residence witnessed what was called "first-level alert."

Gu Yanshen stayed close by at every mont.

Lin Wanyi wanted to go to the yard to enjoy the sunlight.

"It’s windy outside."

Lin Wanyi wanted to go get a cup of water by herself.

"I’ll go."

Lin Wanyi wanted to grab a book placed on a high shelf.

Gu Yanshen directly lifted her horizontally onto a chair, retrieved the book himself.

Gu Lan watched her once aloof brother, who now resembled a cautious giant dog, trailing behind Lin Wanyi every day, his face betraying envy, jealousy, and admiration.

"Wanwan, you didn’t marry a living Yama, you found yourself a twenty-four-seven devoted bodyguard!"

That afternoon, the familiar voice of the postman echoed outside the yard.

"Mr. Gu! A letter from Beijing!"

Upon hearing that, Gu Lan jumped up from her chair, more excited than anyone else.

"It’s here! My mom’s comndation is here!"

As she rushed outside, she called back to Lin Wanyi.

"Wanwan, wait! My mom will definitely sing your praises! She’s been looking forward to having grandchildren, and now with twins coming, she’ll be so thrilled she won’t be able to sleep for three days!"

Gu Yanshen also stood up, the tight corners of his mouth finally curving into a very slight arc.

He quickly walked to the door, taking the familiar family letter from the postman’s hand.

The envelope was thick, carrying his mother’s characteristic ink scent.

"Quick, open it and see! My mom is definitely going to send so good things for you!" Gu Lan eagerly moved closer, even more anxious than Gu Yanshen.

Gu Yanshen opened the envelope, pulling out the letter inside.

The gentle expression on his face froze the mont his eyes landed on the letter.

One second.

Two seconds.

The color drained from his face visibly, and his newly relaxed jawline tensed back into a cold, hard edge.

The air around them seed to drop to freezing point.

He abruptly closed the letter, trying to stuff it back into the envelope.

"Brother? What’s wrong? What did Mom say?"

Gu Lan sensed sothing was wrong and snatched the letter from his hand.

"Let see, maybe Mom was so excited that she wrote sothing wrong..."

As she spoke, she unfolded the letter and cleared her throat, reading loudly with a tone of unveiling a treasure.

"Yanshen, I’ve learned about the twins. This matter is dangerous and not trivial. Your wife..."

Gu Lan paused, frowning in confusion, but continued reading.

"...she cos from a poor background, has been pampered since young, and her health is frail. Now pregnant with twins, the risks are nurous, you must not spread the word, be cautious in everything, and mind the impact."

By this point, Gu Lan’s voice had lowered, and her smile had vanished.

She glanced at the paper, then at Lin Wanyi, her expression awkward and uncomfortable.

Yet she held the paper, chanically finishing the last few sentences.

"I’ll send so supplents through Little Sister in a while... you must ensure she eats them, nourish her well, and avoid any mishaps."

"Thud."

Gu Lan’s hand let the letter fall to the floor.

The room was deathly silent.

Gu Lan’s face flushed red, she glanced at the expressionless Lin Wanyi, then at the nacingly aura-consud Gu Yanshen, wishing she could disappear into the ground.

"I... Wanwan... My mom didn’t an it that way..."

Gu Yanshen didn’t speak.

His hand at his side clenched tightly, making an audible creak.

He bent down, picked up the letter, and read it word by word.

Every word felt like a needle piercing his eyes.

What did it an by "poor background, frail health"?

What did it an by "you must ensure she eats"?

The hidden aning behind these words clearly insinuated that Lin Wanyi was delicate and spoiled, and would mistreat the Gu family’s descendants!

A violent rage erupted from his chest, the veins on the back of his hand gripping the letter paper bulging.

"How dare she say that about you!"

His voice was squeezed out through clenched teeth, filled with suppressed anger and murderous intent.

Just as Gu Lan was about to burst into tears, and Gu Yanshen was on the brink of losing his temper.

Lin Wanyi suddenly smiled.

She reached out, gently taking the letter from Gu Yanshen’s hand, which was trembling with anger.

She lowered her eyes, calmly reading through the letter’s contents again.

Then she looked up at the two people who cared most about her.

One furious, the other guilty and remorseful.

She neatly folded the letter, placed it on the table, her voice soft, yet carrying a soothing power.

"Don’t be angry."

She addressed Gu Yanshen first.

Then turned to Gu Lan.

"Don’t be upset either. I know Mom has a sharp tongue but a soft heart, she’s just overly concerned about the children."

Her words left them both stunned.

Lin Wanyi walked up to Gu Yanshen, stood on tiptoe, and reached out to gently smooth his furrowed brows with her fingertips.

"Leave this matter to ."

That night.

Gu Yanshen lay in bed, still wide awake.

His mother’s words were like a thorn lodged deep within his heart, leaving him both angry and regretful.

He held Lin Wanyi tightly in his arms, as if only this could make up for the humiliation she suffered.

In the darkness, the person in his arms suddenly moved.

"Yanshen."

"Hmm?"

"You ntioned before that Mom... has chronic rheumatism?"

Lin Wanyi’s voice was soft, like a feather landing on his heart.

Gu Yanshen was startled, not understanding why she suddenly brought this up.

"Yes, it has been many years. Her legs hurt badly whenever it’s rainy, she’s seen many doctors with no relief."

Lin Wanyi adjusted to a comfortable position in his arms, her lips curling subtly.

She murmured ever so softly, almost inaudible.

"That’s perfect."

"The batch of Qu Han Grass I just cultivated might be put to good use."
