Beijing, Gu Family Mansion.

Outside the window, the autumn rain pattered endlessly.

In the living room, the atmosphere was oppressive.

"Ah—"

Cheng Huiyun sat on the sofa, a thick blanket covering her legs, with a layer of cold sweat on her forehead.

That old cold leg felt as if pierced by countless ice needles repeatedly, the pain drilling into her bones.

"Madam, shall I get you a hot water bottle?"

The maid, Sister in law Liu, asked worriedly.

"It’s useless!"

Cheng Huiyun’s voice was distorted because of the pain.

"Old problem, what’s a hot water bottle supposed to do? Go, get my painkillers!"

"Madam..."

Sister in law Liu looked troubled.

"Those imported pills, you took the last one yesterday."

Cheng Huiyun’s movents froze, and the last bit of color drained from her face.

She gritted her teeth, and every throb from the knee joint seed to make her vision darken.

"Useless! Why didn’t you buy more earlier!"

"I went, but the pharmacy said they’re out of stock, we have to wait for the next batch..."

Sister in law Liu’s voice grew quieter.

Cheng Huiyun was in too much pain to speak, could only clutch the sofa armrest tightly.

Sister in law Liu watched her suffer, and suddenly recalled sothing.

"Madam, maybe... maybe try what the young mistress sent a few days ago?"

Cheng Huiyun raised her head sharply, her gaze sharp.

"That mysterious stuff?"

"But... the letter said it’s specifically for rheumatic leg pain, right?"

Sister in law Liu whispered.

"You’re in so much pain, we might as well try anything. What if... what if it works?"

Cheng Huiyun’s chest heaved.

How could a redy concocted by a capitalist young lady be effective?

Yet the pain in her leg surged like waves, nearly overwhelming her reason.

After a long pause, she squeezed out a few words from between her teeth:

"Bring it!"

Sister in law Liu, as if pardoned, hurried to the storage room, carrying out the glass bottle that Cheng Huiyun had disdained and tossed into a corner.

Cheng Huiyun looked at the strange-looking root in the bottle, her eyes still filled with blatant skepticism.

"Hmph, what nonsense is this,"

She pulled up her pant leg, revealing her swollen knee from the pain.

"Pour so out and rub it on for !"

"Yes."

Sister in law Liu twisted off the cap, releasing a peculiar aroma of dicine mixed with alcohol.

She poured so into her palm and carefully rubbed it onto Cheng Huiyun’s knee.

Cheng Huiyun closed her eyes, already prepared for it to be ineffective, even ready to scold.

The next second.

She suddenly opened her eyes wide.

A warm current, originating from Sister in law Liu’s palm, perated the skin, amazingly reaching deep into the bone crevice in an instant!

The pain that had lingered for over a decade, cold and biting, lted away rapidly as if ice eting the blazing sun.

A warm sensation replaced all discomfort.

"Not... not hurting?"

Cheng Huiyun spoke in disbelief, her voice trembling.

Sister in law Liu stopped her movents, shocked as she looked at her.

"Madam, it really stopped hurting?"

Cheng Huiyun didn’t answer.

She pushed Sister in law Liu aside, standing up.

She tentatively walked a few steps in the living room.

Her steps were steady, her knee light, no trace of pain.

She walked a couple more steps.

And again, a couple more.

Lastly, she even hopped slightly in place.

Feeling as if she had beco twenty years younger!

Sister in law Liu’s mouth was agape, big enough to fit an egg.

"Oh my! Madam! This... is miraculous!"

Cheng Huiyun was frozen on the spot, she looked down at her leg, then abruptly turned back to stare at the dicinal wine on the coffee table.

Shock, doubt, disbelief.

Various emotions alternated on her face.

She quickly stepped back, picked up the dicinal wine, and unfolded the letter she had discarded carelessly beside it.

On the letter, Lin Wanyi’s elegant handwriting reappeared before her eyes.

"... A small sip before bedti helps with circulation and dispels the cold better."

Cheng Huiyun looked at these words, her heart pounding.

She picked up a small glass, addressing Sister in law Liu in an indisputable, commanding tone.

"Pour so!"

"Madam, this... is it drinkable?"

"Pour!"

Sister in law Liu dared not ask further, trembling as she poured a shallow amount.

Cheng Huiyun raised the glass, tilted her head, and drank it all in one sip.

A gentle warmth slid down her throat, lacking the usual spiciness of white liquor, but carrying a peculiar sweetness.

The warmth quickly spread in her stomach, then dispersed to her limbs.

The whole body felt like being soaked in a scorching hot spring.

Every pore seed to relax, the exhaustion and chill accumulated over years in her body appeared to be dispelled and evaporate inch by inch by this warmth.

She took a long, deep breath.

An unprecedented sense of ease and lightness enveloped her.

"Madam... your face!"

Sister in law Liu pointed at her, exclaiming.

"Your complexion is rosy like... like it was over ten years ago!"

Cheng Huiyun touched her face dazedly.

She looked at the dicinal wine on the table and then at the discarded letter.

In the letter, her daughter-in-law’s gentle admonishnts still echoed near.

And then she recalled the letter she had written a few days ago, those harsh, prejudiced, condescending words...

There was a loud "boom."

A surge of hot blood rushed to her head.

The feelings of sha, regret, and utter embarrassnt punched her heart heavily.

She rembered her son’s phone call with suppressed anger.

Rembered her daughter-in-law, far away at the border, still worrying about her health.

"I... I’m such a fool!"

Cheng Huiyun slapped her thigh, her eyes instantly reddening.

She held the dicinal wine, her hand shaking fiercely, murmuring continually.

"I’ve brought in such a Fairy Daughter in Law!"

"I... I’m truly blind!"

Sister in law Liu stared in shock as the lady who monts ago was groaning in pain now moved around the room like a headless fly.

The next mont, as if determined by sothing, Cheng Huiyun stopped abruptly.

"The phone!!"

She rushed to the phone, grabbed the receiver, and shouted at the orderly on the other end.

"Connect to the main line! Quickly! I need the Border Defense Military District! Hurry!"

She hung up, unable to wait even a second during the few minutes while the operator connected the line.

"Sister in law Liu! Co with !"

She rushed to the storage room.

"Get out the biggest box!"

She opened cabinet after cabinet, taking out treasures carefully stored inside.

"This three-hundred-year-old ginseng! Wrap it up!"

"This cloud brocade from Jiangnan! Put it in!"

"And this pair of golden locks! Made for my future grandson! Put them in too!"

Sister in law Liu scrambled to keep up.

"Madam, Madam please slow down! These are your most precious things!"

"Precious my foot!"

Cheng Huiyun’s eyes were red, her voice hoarse from shouting.

"My daughter-in-law sends a miracle cure, but I repay her with harsh words! What kind of elder am I!"

"Send all these things to her! No! Tomorrow, I’ll personally find a military plane to deliver them!"

At that mont, the phone in the living room rang.

Cheng Huiyun rushed out like the wind, grabbing the phone.

The receiver echoed with the courteous, gentle voice of the operator and Lin Wanyi.

"Hello, this is Lin Wanyi."

Cheng Huiyun held the receiver, took a deep breath, and shouted out with a trembling, tearful, filled with unprecedented enthusiasm and guilt voice.

"Wanyi! My dear daughter-in-law! It’s Mom! Mom was wrong! I’m sorry!!"
