Jessica's apartnt was on the third floor of the building—not too high, not too low.
The place itself was not very large, and it was fairly ssy. It was obvious Jessica was not the type who liked cleaning up.
"Wow, not bad."
As Neagley and Natasha stepped into the living room, Neagley casually pinched a pair of small underwear between two fingers and grinned at Jessica.
Jessica's face instantly turned red. She hurried over, snatched the underwear back, and imdiately began cleaning the room at lightning speed.
She moved so quickly that even Skye, as an ordinary person, felt like she was seeing afterimages.
Before long, the apartnt was spotless.
Neagley and Natasha dropped onto the sofa, and Neagley lazily turned toward the sowhat awkward and uncertain Skye standing nearby before beckoning her over.
"Co here, little one."
Skye did not understand why, but obediently walked over anyway. The next second, Neagley grabbed her arm and pulled her stumbling down beside her on the couch.
Then, completely naturally, she wrapped an arm around the girl's neck.
"Once we catch that purple bastard, co with . This city isn't really suitable for you."
"Co with you?"
Skye looked confused at first, then hesitated slightly.
"I… I still have things I need to do."
She had grown up in an orphanage.
All her life, she had depended on others, drifting from place to place. The reason she learned hacking skills was because she had a goal.
She wanted to find her biological parents, whether they were alive or dead.
She did not want to remain soone with no known origins, and deep down, she longed for a real family connection.
More than anything, she wanted the truth, no matter how painful that truth might turn out to be.
"A lost and ignorant girl," Neagley said, shaking her head after seeing Skye's confused expression. "The world isn't as simple as you think."
"Your ethnicity and your appearance alone will already make surviving in this city difficult for you."
"And the things you've been doing are far too dangerous."
Skye was bold enough to join an anti-governnt online organization that spread conspiracy theories while hacking into the databases of various secret agencies.
It might not seem serious right now, but if she ever truly touched certain classified information in the future, prison would be the least of her problems.
"Who exactly are you people?"
"Why do you have powers like that? And why are there vampires? Are you vampire hunters or sothing? The governnt really has been hiding a lot from us, hasn't it?"
Skye's train of thought was clearly different from normal people's. Instead of feeling afraid after what she had witnessed in the underground tunnel earlier that morning, she looked completely excited as she chased after answers.
Neagley was genuinely surprised.
This girl really had absolutely no sense of boundaries.
She asked those questions openly without the slightest restraint.
"You want to know?" Neagley suddenly put on the expression of a shady uncle luring children with goldfish. "Then join us. The truth of the world will be opened to you."
Skye was not stupid. She imdiately curled her lips.
"Big Sis Neagley, you sound exactly like one of those brainwashing cults right now."
"Heh. If I were running a cult, you'd be the first sacrifice."
Neagley burst out laughing.
At that mont, Jessica walked over carrying several glasses of water. She handed them one by one to Neagley and the others before sitting down on a nearby armchair with her own cup.
"To be honest, I want to know who you people are too," Jessica said curiously. "Are there still a lot of those bloodsucking monsters in this world?"
Jessica herself had never been soone content with an ordinary life. After everything she had experienced, part of her also felt an urge to uncover the truth behind the world.
"Have you really thought this through?" Neagley suddenly put on a terrifying expression, as though she might silence them forever in the next second.
"Digging into our origins is very dangerous."
But before Neagley could continue playing around, Natasha, who had remained silent the entire ti, rcilessly exposed her.
"Our organization doesn't have a na," Natasha said calmly. "I'm the commander of the Raven Warband, and she's the head of the Intelligence Departnt."
"Hey!" Neagley shot her an annoyed look.
Not because Natasha had revealed information, but simply because she had ruined her little prank.
"Wow… Commander of the Raven Warband. That sounds aweso."
Neither Skye nor Jessica paid any attention to Neagley's exaggerated reaction. Instead, both girls looked at Natasha excitedly.
An organization with no official na. A commander of sothing called the Raven Warband.
The title alone carried a mysterious and powerful atmosphere.
The two girls had already started imagining scenes in their minds.
Rows of people dressed like Natasha and Neagley, wearing long red coats, carrying cross swords on their backs and dual pistols in hand, standing in perfect formation.
Hidden in corners of the world unknown to ordinary people, they fought against secret darkness and unseen evil.
Just like the scene they had witnessed at the Temple of Eternal Night the previous night.
Facing dozens of terrifying vampires without fear or hesitation—
and slaughtering them calmly.
Protecting peace in the human world.
It sounded unbelievably cool, almost irresistibly so.
"What are they even imagining?" Neagley instantly saw through the excitent on the girls' faces and turned helplessly toward Natasha.
Natasha rely raised an elegant eyebrow with a faintly amused expression. "Young people admire this kind of thing, don't they?"
Neagley coughed awkwardly and avoided answering.
Back when she had been around Skye and Jessica's age, she had probably fantasized about similar things too.
Though, naturally, girls did not all imagine exactly the sa things.
"Alright, girls, wake up a little." Neagley clapped her hands, drawing their attention back before speaking seriously.
"So things are kept secret from you for your own protection."
"Just like I said before, this world holds many hidden secrets. Chasing after those secrets can bring danger not only to yourselves, but also to the people you care about."
"Skye. Jessica. I need both of you to keep everything that happened early this morning confidential. Can you do that?"
Skye and Jessica exchanged a glance.
Skye looked slightly unwilling.
Her mindset still leaned toward the belief that everyone had the right to know the truth. But seeing the unprecedented seriousness in Neagley's expression, she eventually nodded anyway.
"We'll keep it secret."
"Good."
Neagley nodded in satisfaction.
"Both you and Jessica should think carefully about whether you want to join us. Once you do, these secrets can be opened to you."
Neagley thought highly of both Skye and Jessica.
Skye possessed exceptional talent with computers, and the relationship between them over the years had been fairly good as well.
The Intelligence Departnt also needed to continue growing stronger. Their boss hardly paid attention to matters like this, so as the departnt head, Neagley had to take responsibility herself.
Skye was an excellent prospect.
And according to the classified S.H.I.E.L.D. database records, the girl herself seed to carry secrets that had yet to be uncovered. That unique group connected to her was worth investigating.
As for Jessica, the reason was simple.
Despite not being a mutant, the girl possessed superhuman physical abilities—
and she could even fly.
Her potential value was equally high.
She was perfectly suited to join the Raven Warband.
Natasha had already taken a liking to her.
After only a short period of contact, Neagley had confird that both girls had decent character. Recruiting them was not a bad idea at all.
"You still have ti to think about it," Neagley continued. "But once we catch that purple bastard, you'll need to make your decision."
"Understood."
Skye and Jessica exchanged another glance before answering seriously.
"Okay then. None of us slept last night, so you two should get so rest."
"As for us, we need to head out first."
