"Drex..."
Angel Yan leaned in until she was only a few centiters away, wearing a smile that was far too seductive for the nearly empty theater.
"I think... I want to kindle the fla."
The huge cinema was mostly empty because the movie was a horror film, so there were only a handful of other viewers scattered around.
And that was when Drex realized sothing.
From the beginning, Angel Yan had not been watching the movie at all.
He had been played by this veteran temptress.
What happened next did not need to be spelled out.
The two of them left the theater afterward.
Drex's emotions were complicated. He glanced sideways and caught sight of the soft sway of her body as she walked, then the faint blush on Angel Yan's beautiful face. He pushed aside all the ssy thoughts crowding his head.
All things considered, dates were not bad.
At least Angel Yan, Lyra Yan, and Tifa all seed to have enjoyed themselves.
After spending such a pleasant day together, their feelings had clearly ward quite a bit. The way they looked at Drex had changed too. There was sothing deeper in those eyes now.
People always said that when soone liked you, you could see it in every glance they gave you.
"Oh, right. Stark called you about half an hour ago and said you absolutely had to call him back once you woke up."
Tifa set the company phone down in front of Drex, then stood and walked toward the kitchen.
"I'll make breakfast for you."
Honestly, living like this was excellent.
Especially when the one taking care of you was a gentle older sister type.
Lyra Yan and Angel Yan were a bit different. Neither of them looked especially suited to housework.
"Hey, Tony?"
Drex dialed Stark's number and called him by the first na only close friends were allowed to use.
Tony Stark's full na was Anthony Edward Stark. "Tony" was what people used when they were close to him. Everyone else used Stark, or Anthony if they were feeling formal.
"Finally," Tony snapped the mont he answered. "I don't even have set work hours at S.W.O.R.D. I'm basically a glorified paid loafer, and even I didn't expect you to be this lazy."
His voice ca through like continuous artillery fire.
"Do you know how many people I kept waiting while I sat here for your answer? They're probably cursing in their heads right now."
"But they're still not as rich as you are," Drex said.
Tony paused, then laughed.
"Fair. Which is exactly why I'm not worried about them saying it out loud."
Then Tony's tone sharpened again.
"So what is it? So freak attack at S.W.O.R.D. headquarters?"
"No. Sothing much more trivial."
Tony had left his company in the hands of his forr assistant, Virginia, and now he was absurdly free.
"Soon I'm going to Monaco," he said. "There's an F1 race happening around the sa ti. Drex, stop locking yourself in a lab all day. Want to do sothing exciting?"
"You planning to bolt a reactor onto a race car and drive it like a lunatic?" Drex asked. "That would be exciting, sure."
"Jesus, no!"
Tony sounded personally offended.
"Speeding through a track at full throttle, chasing the edge of disaster, that was one of my dreams years ago. But using an Arc Reactor as a car engine? Drex, that is not exciting. That is suicide."
Even Tony Stark, who loved attention by nature, did not think using a reactor as propulsion for a race car sounded thrilling.
"You really think so?" Drex asked, raising an eyebrow as he rolled out of bed and walked toward the kitchen with the phone tucked between his shoulder and ear.
He glanced over and saw Tifa and Angel Yan moving around the kitchen with cheerful voices, busy with breakfast.
Drex leaned against the doorway and yawned lazily.
Angel Yan probably would not produce any dark cuisine, right?
"Of course I think so," Tony shot back.
"Fine."
"You just need to answer one question: are you in or out?" Tony said impatiently.
"That's the fastest race on the planet, right?" Drex said. "As a veteran behind the wheel, I accept your challenge."
Knowing how to drive well was basically a man's required skill, whether in the online sense or the real one.
...
At the sa ti, out in space, Esdeath was conquering a planet when she encountered a woman dropping from the sky in a red-and-gold uniform.
Carol Danvers.
Captain Marvel.
She had once been a U.S. Air Force pilot before becoming an intelligence officer. During an accident, an alien device called the Light-Speed Engine exploded, trapping Danvers inside it. The blast fused her DNA with Mar-Vell's, granting her extraordinary power. She first beca Ms. Marvel, then later inherited the title of Captain Marvel after Mar-Vell's death.
A stunning blonde woman.
Definitely not the Brie Larson version from the movie universe.
"Kryptonians, you've invaded enough worlds already. It ends here!"
Danvers rushed a Gray Knight and slamd a punch into him.
The sheer force should have been enough to flatten soone outright.
Instead, it hit the Adamantite coating and went nowhere.
The impact energy was transmitted into the vibranium layer beneath, where it was absorbed completely.
Danvers blinked in surprise at the feel of the blow.
If she had not been able to absorb energy, the recoil might have hurt her own hand.
The Gray Knight did not even budge. Instead, he raised his Gauss rifle and aid directly at her.
Deadly electromagnetic rounds tore through the air.
Danvers ignored the bullets entirely, because every bit of energy they carried was being drained away the mont they hit her.
Photon energy gathered in her hands, then roared outward.
It struck the Gray Knight squarely.
But Danvers was stunned to see that her normally unstoppable photon blast did not stop him.
He advanced through it like a rock splitting a river.
The Gray Knight did not bother continuing with the Gauss rifle after that. It was clear it was doing limited damage.
So he pulled out a micro-nuke.
It was called a micro-nuke, but the power behind it was probably more absurd than a real nuclear weapon. The only thing that had been reduced was the blast radius.
Danvers did not dodge.
The micro-nuke hit her head-on.
Boom.
Radiation, fla, shockwave, and searing heat all rushed toward her like a whirlpool, only for Danvers to absorb them into her body. Light flared across her entire fra.
Then she punched the Gray Knight again.
The blow was strong enough to shake the planet's atmosphere. The sky shifted violently, and the ground cracked apart from the leftover force.
But the Gray Knight still held firm.
He was not moved.
Even so, he had clearly been surprised.
He had fought across countless worlds and had never t an opponent like this before.
Other Gray Knights arrived as well, opening fire with plasma pistols that launched superheated plasma straight at Danvers.
Because they had been made with vibranium components, those plasma guns truly lived up to the na.
Loyal plasma guns never overheat.
After all, vibranium does not conduct heat or kinetic force. Even if they fired plasma at a million degrees, there was no need to worry about overheating or exploding.
