(Author’s POV)

"A person who possesses these strange attributes is residing amongst us, like a normal human being? Is that what you are trying to say?" Chris questioned, his words full of doubtfulness.

"That~ ..." Iris’s eyes flickered, "That~ .... I can’t say for sure?"

"What~ .... Ms. Hector, what are you trying to imply here? You are not sure now? Is this all a joke to you? Are you even trying to save the master’s life or just playing with it?" Chris was already on the edge, about to lose the last bit of his reasoning. ’I had requested her, knelt before her to beg for his majesty’s life and even made a blood pact regardless of the fact it might shorten my lifespan, and she is saying she isn’t sure about it? What utter load of bullshit she is talking about?’ He guffawed.

"CHRIS SHADOW, mind your words. Don’t you dare use that tone with ," Iris, sharp and reproachful, bit back at him. Her razor sharp blade like fangs appeared as she added, "Before he is your master, he is My King. You, a re human, daring to bark at , his majesty’s healer? Are you forgetting your place?"

She ground her teeth, "Do you think I will play gas with his majesty’s life?" She roared, not being able to contain her frustration, her fury.

"So, what do you an by your earlier statent? Don’t beat around the bush. Just get straight to the point," emotionally irritated, Chris has had enough. Ti was slipping out of their hand like a sandglass, and he couldn’t waste it on this stupid back and forth. He couldn’t care less about the insults she threw at him. He just wanted answers.

Holding and massaging the back of her neck, Iris tilted her head upwards and sighed, muttering, "Unbelievable ~ ..." She exhaled again, straightened her posture, turning her attention back to Chris, she said, "The experint~ .... It is still unknown whether it turned out to be a success or not. That’s what I was trying to say."

Chris’s eyes bulged out. He was left utterly speechless. "So, there is no hope?" His hands on his head, he mumbled, more to himself than to her.

"No, not exactly~ ...." Iris interrupted him, mid ltdown. "There might be a successful case living out in the open world. We can’t lose them. Though the possibility of that happening is only 0.00001 per cent," She wanted to sound optimistic, but her voice trailed off at the end.

’Yes, she is right. There might be soone with gold blood. There has to be. Even if there is the slightest chance, we can’t let it slip away,’ he reminded himself, and cald down.

"Ms. Hector," he gazed at her with sincerity, "Tell everything you know. I will find the person with this gold blood, at all costs."

"Secretary Shadow, there are not many traits that distinguish a gold blooded person from a normal bled one. They are, infact, ordinary beings like you. Appearance wise, there isn’t the slightest bit of a difference. They bleed red like all other beings as well," Iris stated.

"That ans we will be looking for a needle in a ton of haystack pile, huhh?" Chris said in discontentnt.

Pursing her lips in a thin line, Iris nodded, "But there is a catch~ ... The one with the gold blood~ .... they are prone to attracting energies."

"What kind of energy are we talking about here?" Chris queried.

"All kinds ~ .... good, bad; negative, positive. They attract everything and are always surrounded by that," Iris ntioned. "Though it is not intentional."

Chris nodded in understanding, though the information was still vague. He asked, "Ms. Hector, when did you say this experint started? Try to be more precise."

Thinking long and hard, the healer replied, "Twenty four~... Nahh, it happened~ ... probably~ .... around twenty five years ago."

"But, you said a few years ago?" Chris said exasperatedly. He thought it must have happened, at most, around five years, max to max, ten. Twenty five years, the level of difficult just heightened.

"For you, a human, it may be a lot. But for a Vampire like , it is just a couple of years," she stated casually.

"Ohk, I got it. So, the person must be around twenty four or twenty three. I will start the investigation right away," Chris said. Now that he had the lead, he would unravel everything about that experint.

"Ahh~ .... Secretary Shadow, let remind you. In ten days, the sumr solstice is about to happen. You need to find them before that," she ntioned with utmost seriousness.

Chris nodded, though his body stiffened a bit. He was able to read between the lines.

The sumr solstice is that day of the year when the day lasts the longest. It is nothing extraordinary for others, but for a bloodsucking vampire, it is considered to be dreadful. It’s the day when these bloodthirsty creatures’ powers are at their lowest. They don’t die or anything by it, though. But still, they are advised not to go out and remain in their dens or houses during that ti, in complete darkness.

Jacob, however, as the Vampire King, has had no problem dealing with it, ever. But now, things have taken a drastic turn. He was at death’s doorsteps, one foot already in his grave. That day can potentially turn out to be the final nail in his coffin.

"And~ .... where did this experint take place?" Chris fired another question. Trying to jot down the information in his head.

"In Gouldland~ ...." Iris uttered while licking her lips.

"Gouldland? Where is it?" he asked, confused. 1

Before Iris could answer him, he suddenly recalled a ntion of such a place in a council eting, his antenna started flaring, ".... You an, the suburb area under Alpha Keith Snow of Half Shade Lunar pack? It is a werewolf territory?" Chris asked incredulously, blinking like a startled deer.

"Ummhmm~" Iris shook her head. "He was a forr Alpha. Now, that place has all sorts of rogues and wild beasts living there," she reminded him.

This piece of information made matters only worse. Entering a werewolf territory without proper access, more or less, will be considered a declaration of war on them. But he wasn’t the one to give up just like that and was ready for anything. "Give the nas of the people involved," his expression tight, his voice unreadable.

Iris had that look again, which made Chris question, "You don’t know that as well?"

"Unfortunately ... no. Those people have been thorough in concealing their real identities. They used to call themselves by weird codes or numbers," Iris relayed to him what she rembered. It had happened a long ti ago, so her mory was a bit fuzzy about the matter. She only knew this because soone had anonymously approached her, or rather, to poach her to be part of that experint. But she was a person of integrity, and also a small healer at that ti. She straightaway refused it.

Chris humd in understanding and said, "I will go and make arrangents."

A sharp, ear piercingly clattering sound broke their conversation. Instinctively, they both glance at the secured door, then at each other; their faces were etched with undisguised anxiety. They then hurriedly walked out of the study, one after another.

Chris briskly marched toward the source of the shattering sound. When he reached the living room, his eyes were ready to pop out of their sockets at what he saw. He fumbled, "Yo~ .... You~ .... Young master~ ... what in the heavens are you~ .... doing here?" he sprinted across the room towards a staggering, colorless Fabian.

Bits and pieces of an ancient porcelain vase were scattered across the floor. As Fabian tried to get up from the floor, his hand jabbed at a shard, tearing his exposed elbow.

Chris had sent his trusted n to the hospital to safeguard Fabian and keep an eye on the situation. After all, with Alaric Everests present, later joined by Dion as well, he couldn’t leave Jacob and go out. He didn’t want to add to their suspicion. But he was getting minute updates about his health and knew that Yelena Yates had been with him all night.

He was aware that Fabian had woken up that morning and was about to go after his talk with Iris, but wasn’t expecting his young master to co to the mansion on his own. The guy was as weak as a toddler, barely able to take a step without staggering.

Chris helped him get up and said, "You were supposed to be getting treatnt at the hospital? You shouldn’t have co here."

"Ho~w~ .. is~ .... How is .... m~y .... grandf~ather?" Fabian’s words tumbled weakly out of his mouth.

On his questions, Chris’s lips tightened apprehensively. Jacob’s state of health wasn’t promising at all. But right now, Fabian’s ntal state was great, so he just said, "Ms. Hector and other healers are there in master’s room. He is getting proper treatnt."

"Take ~ .... Take ~ ... to see him," Fabian spoke with difficulty.
