(Author’s POV)
"What if I tell you I have a plan to take out not just Fabian Stephens, but Jacob Larson would willingly hand over the reins to you?" Denver said; his voice held an uncanny peculiarity. "Interested now?"
"Hahh~ ... don’t bluff, Brooks. You think just because you have so magic up your sleeve, you are omnipotent or sothing? You are just an illusionist," Brian sneered with difficulty. He had sohow managed to talk despite the sealing magic on his mouth. He found Denver’s claim utterly absurd. A re human asserting he can vanquish Fabian, who was protected by Jacob as well as convince that the undisputed Vampire King would give his seat to Catherine on his own accord. ’Ridiculous.’
But Catherine was thinking otherwise. She was intrigued by Denver’s confident words. "How?" she spoke. "How can you pluck that mutt out when we, the Vampire elders, haven’t been able to do that? Jacob Larson has been shielding that sewer rat since ... forever. How are you so sure you can take him out that easily, when we couldn’t?"
"I have my ways," Denver was nonchalant with his words. "Fabian Stephens, he is nothing in front of . I can take him out any day of the week." He boasted.
"Elaborate," Catherine asserted, arching his left brow.
Denver sighed, then told them, "Tomorrow is no ordinary day. It is the sumr solstice, right? The day all vampires are on the edge. Their power gets curtailed, and so does their hold on things and people."
Catherine and Brian exchanged glances as he continued, "Jacob Larson may seem fit as a fiddle from the outside, but inside, he is still lacking vitality. Right now, he is in no position to guard that Stephens boy. All these years, the solstices may not have had any effect on soone as mighty as him, but this one would be different. His powers will be greatly attenuated. That’s the perfect opportunity to weed out Fabian Stephens."
"But tomorrow, he has called all the clan leaders for a joint eting. There will be too many eyes," Catherine interrupted.
"Too many prying eyes~ ... yes. But too many people~ ... like I said~ .... ~is a perfect opportunity," Denver said. "Even if sothing were to happen to that boy tomorrow, no one can point fingers at you. Do they? After all, from what I have heard, quite a few of the clan leaders dislike him and his humble origins. He has a lot of enemies. Everyone has a motive to harm him."
"But those filthy animals that are guarding the Larson mansion like a fortress? What will we do about them?" Catherine remarked sharply. "The King has asked those shapeshifters to shield them. And they have been disgustingly cooperative." She clenched her fists.
"The Lycan heirs, hahh, they won’t stand a chance as well. Because tomorrow~ .... is the night of the full moon. Their supernatural abilities would run wild, and Jacob knows that. He has already issued a command to enhance the neutralising barrier throughout the entire vicinity. So~ .... when there will be no one to protect Stephens, even if the chandelier collapses on him, or he drinks poison, or soone drives a silver dagger in his heart, no one will be able to save him," Denver laid out his plan.
Catherine pondered for a while, then asked, "And what’s in it for you? What do you want in return?"
"Ahhh~ .... good question. What do I want~ ...." he rubbed his chin with his fingers and added, "What I want is~ .... to get access to the Land of Half-Immortals."
"Huhhh?" Both Catherine and Brian were puzzled. They were not expecting him to say that, definitely not.
"Land of Half Immortals~ .... why do you want to go in there?" Brian spouted. "A human like you has no business there."
"None of your business," Denver countered, snapping at him. "It is the only thing I want from you. Open the portal for and get two special permits to get inside the land of half immortals."
"Two~ .... who’s the other person you are going with?" Catherine asked.
"Just a little girl I have taken a fancy to," Denver gave a chilling smile.
"A girl, a normal human?" Catherine spoke curiously.
"Ummhmm~ .... Just a girl. A normal human girl," he repeated.
"What’s her na?" Catherine asked. She was sure whoever this person was, she must have had so secret to make Denver interested in her. That guy is a sociopath and only takes a fancy to people when they have sothing to offer them.
"You don’t need to know," Denver shut her down as he got up. Adjusting the rub ring in his index finger, he added, "Now that I have laid out my terms, give your answer. Are you in or~ .... not?"
"I can open the portal for you, but~ .... the enchantnt requires the nas of the people who are going to enter the land. So~ .... I will repeat. What’s the na of the girl?" This ti, Catherine crossed her legs, exposing her left leg from the slit of her shimry erald dress as she looked him dead in the eye.
For the first ti in the evening, Denver seed to have lost a tiny bit of his composure as he gritted his teeth. He soon regained his calm and said, "Her na is~ .... Myra Miracle."
Hearing the familiar na, Brian’s eyes widened, ready to pop out of their sockets. His eyes then narrowed as he thought, ’The girl that mutt fancies has the sa na. Is this a coincidence or~ .... he is aiming for sothing else?’
He didn’t utter a word of doubt as Catherine said, "Alright, once you finish the task of getting rid of that Stephens boy, I will open the portal for you two."
"You surely are a wise one, unlike so people. Well then, that’s my cue," with that, Denver turned around and walked away without looking at either of them.
Once he was completely out of the place, Brian told Catherine about Myra.
Catherine’s eyes narrowed as she ordered, "Run a background check on her. I want to know everything related to her; don’t omit a single line."
