"Yes, only two cards." Li Zheng said, "One of them belongs to a resident who was later infected in the gathering area."
"Just as I thought." Aidaxi returned the Inscription Card to Li Zheng, "Keep these two cards safe. When you return to the Outer City, you can go to the Coin Exchange and claim the Crystal Coins stored in the accounts with the cards."
"Can I collect them all?" Li Zheng was delighted, surprised by the benefit.
The next second, he frowned again. "With an Inscription Card, one can collect the stored Crystal Coins of another, wouldn’t so people use this to amass wealth?"
This rule is similar to the Matrix, where obtaining another’s Identity Card allows one to reap so rewards.
"What are you thinking?" Aidaxi chuckled, "I’ll give you a proof docunt to certify the provenance of these Inscription Cards so that you can legally claim the Crystal Coins. That’s one of my privileges as the Guard Captain of the Third Gathering Point in the Fourth Sin Domain. Only those with authority can issue such proof to you."
Not waiting for Li Zheng’s question, he continued, "You don’t need to worry about anyone abusing the law; if anyone dares to do so and is discovered, the best outco for them is a death sentence from a public manhunt."
"Then I can be at ease." Li Zheng nodded, "You didn’t seem surprised to see that there are only two Inscription Cards?"
Three infected bodies, one with an unknown identity; as the Guard Captain of the gathering point, he seed not to have any intention of pursuing the matter.
"If you knew there were many such incidents in history, you wouldn’t be surprised either." Aidaxi explained, "Starting from about fifty years ago, there have been recurrent incidents of infected bodies invading Sin Domain gathering areas. The only commonality is that there are always one to ten unknown identities."
Li Zheng asked, "Has the Outer City not sent anyone to investigate?"
"Investigated." Aidaxi shook his head, "The Terminal has issued upwards of a hundred investigation missions. None of the participants have been found alive or dead afterward, so people... so people appear as infected bodies in subsequent attacks after a period."
"And the mastermind’s identity hasn’t been found?"
"No, but there are so speculations." Aidaxi stated, "It’s likely so organization from the Wilderness; only those from the Wilderness could do such things."
"Deliberately creating infected bodies?" Li Zheng exclaid, "Why would those people do that?"
He had just checked and found that infected bodies contained no Magic Crystals; creating infected bodies artificially is a destructive and unrewarding act.
"Why?" Aidaxi’s tone was complex, "Because so people from the Wilderness believe that willingly embracing and integrating Emotion Storms is the future of all tribes. They are willing to harm fellow citizens to create one infected body after another, deploying them to every corner of the Outer City or the Wilderness through various ans."
Li Zheng roughly understood; it was like so terrorist organizations on Earth that believed humans were the scourge of Earth and only by eradicating humanity could the Earth be saved.
Normal people cannot comprehend their beliefs, nor can they understand the bizarre actions taken due to such beliefs.
"Aren’t those fellows in the Wilderness doing anything?" Li Zheng asked, "Are they just letting them wreak havoc everywhere?"
"Most can’t do anything about it." Aidaxi smiled bitterly, "The Wilderness is far more complex than the Outer City, with various chaotic factions interspersed. As soon as any faction dares to stick out too far, it would be imdiately countered by a united force."
It is precisely because the Wilderness is sufficiently chaotic that those with evil intentions have space to survive.
And the Wilderness has existed just as long as the Outer City; don’t ntion individuals or organizations wanting to intervene, even the Terminal would not receive any grace from the Wilderness.
After all, in so sense, the Wilderness inhabitants are the Players abandoned by the Terminal; they themselves have no sense of belonging to the Outer City or the Matrix. They only need to care for their survival; what concern do others’ lives or deaths have to them?
Ultimately, it’s the very roots laid by the Terminal, which now has no easy redy to fix.
Li Zheng suddenly realized that the reason infected bodies were infected actually stemd from issues at the spiritual level.
And the patients housed at the doctor’s facility also stemd from issues at the spiritual level.
Could there be so connection between these two?
Thinking about this, he raised his observations and doubts, hoping Aidaxi could provide so clarification.
However, upon hearing his question, Aidaxi rely smiled bitterly, shaking his head, "Research in the spiritual domain has never stopped since the developnt of the Outer City, but progress is slow, many unsolved mysteries continue to bother experts in this field."
"I’ve heard about what you ntioned, but unfortunately, I cannot provide you with answers."
Li Zheng quietly listened, pondering for a while.
Perhaps he should find an opportunity to visit Street 950 again, now that the Lamp Holder’s transformation is complete and he has a foundation for Kuimi’s ability.
Maybe he could glean so clues from the cured patients, one can’t say for certain.
Seeing that the conversation was about wrapped up, Aidaxi stood to bid farewell, "You dared to enter the Sin Domain alone on your first try, I must say you are very brave. Let’s end this exploration for now; next ti you co, it’s best to assemble a trustworthy team."
Team exploration has its advantages; if trouble arises along the way, there’s mutual support.
Most importantly, if soone in the team gets corrupted by the Sin Domain, it can be resolved swiftly.
