After Caelan’s explanation,
Edward had finally realized just how terrifying the Divine Tomb truly was.
What he had not expected, however, was that his friend would die in such a baffling and senseless way.
"Lord Caelan, Miss Evelyn, please save our Whitemist Town! I beg you!"
"If you can save Whitemist Town, then I, Edward, am willing to beco your servant and do anything for you without complaint!"
Caelan nodded, about to offer Edward a few casual words of comfort, when Evelyn’s voice suddenly rang out.
"It’s too late. Everything is already too late!"
The mont those words were spoken, both Caelan and Edward were left utterly confused.
Just as Caelan was about to ask Evelyn what she ant, he saw her shoot him a helpless look.
At the sa ti, her voice echoed directly in his mind.
"The Divine Tomb is about to erge, but for now, we can’t enter it!"
Caelan froze for a mont, then instinctively asked,
"Why? Haven’t we practically found the entrance already?"
Evelyn gave a helpless smile and pointed at the Supre Staff in her possession.
"Because Senior Supre Staff had a huge argunt with the administrator inside the Divine Tomb. So the administrator has temporarily revoked our access rights... ahem."
Evelyn lowered her head in slight embarrassnt, because she knew perfectly well that this ti, the problem really was Senior Supre Staff’s fault.
But... there was nothing she could do to stop it.
Mainly because, for so reason, the Supre Staff seed to have an overwhelming sense of superiority whenever it was facing the Divine Tomb, as though it were deliberately showing off sothing.
And the administrator of the Divine Tomb seed to have been driven half-mad with rage because of it.
Caelan could only curl his lips helplessly. Wasn’t this just a complete waste of ti?
Was Senior Supre Staff really here to help, or just to make trouble?
But then he thought it over again. Perhaps Senior Supre Staff had its own reasons for acting this way.
After all, while it often seed unreliable, the information it provided had always been extrely accurate and had helped Caelan solve quite a few problems.
So... if Supre Staff had done this, there had to be so deeper aning behind it.
Just as Caelan was wondering whether he should simply lay his cards on the table and ask Supre Staff directly what it was planning—
In the next instant, at the exact center of Mistvale’s plaza, a gigantic Runic Array, ford from countless runes, suddenly appeared out of thin air!
Imdiately afterward, Caelan noticed in shock that more and more townspeople were gathering around the square of Whitemist Town.
Their expressions were numb, their movents uniform, like puppets pulled by invisible strings as they walked forward.
The sight before them left Edward completely stunned.
"Madam Jenny, Mr. Elsa, Lord Taritari, you all—"
Before Edward could finish speaking, the people he recognized suddenly transford one after another into shadowy phantoms and rged into the center of the Runic Array!
"What is happening?!"
Edward cried out in alarm, but what happened over the next few seconds beca a scene he would never forget for the rest of his life.
Those familiar figures turned into illusory shadows one after another, then fused into the Runic Array.
The entire process was swift—and eerily silent.
After only a few breaths, the several hundred residents of Whitemist Town had all vanished into the Runic Array, leaving Edward alone, kneeling on the ground in despair.
"No!!!"
"Why?! Why is this happening?!"
In a fury, he charged toward the illusory image of the Runic Array and unleashed his strongest skill against it.
But the result was that his attack smashed into the plaza itself, instantly shattering the already ruined square into pieces.
He was just about to use another skill when Caelan grabbed him and stopped him.
At that mont, Edward’s eyes were filled with tears as he said unwillingly,
"Lord Caelan, why are you stopping ?!"
"Didn’t you see it?! My family, my friends, the people of my town—they were all devoured by that damned Runic Array!"
"So why are you stopping ?!"
Faced with the nearly broken Edward, Caelan’s expression remained calm.
"What you’re seeing now is only a projection."
"Those family mbers and friends of yours died a long ti ago. Haven’t you realized that all along?"
Edward froze, then shook his head violently.
"No... impossible. They’re alive. They’re alive!!"
But when Caelan heard that answer, there was a trace more pity in his gaze.
"You don’t need to keep lying to yourself. They died long ago, didn’t they?"
At that mont, Edward felt as though he had fallen into an icy abyss. His entire body turned cold.
He rembered it now.
During this recent period, he had actually noticed that sothing was wrong long ago.
He just had never forced himself to think too deeply about those problems.
So they had really all died... every last one of them?
But then why was he still alive?
And why...
Just as Edward was about to be pushed completely to the brink of collapse, a cold voice suddenly rang out throughout the entire Abyss.
"[Godfiend Trials] has opened. Its location is Whitemist Town. Proceed there at once."
"[Godfiend Trials] is a limited-ti treasure Instance. Once all treasures have been claid, the Instance will close permanently. Make haste!"
???
[Godfiend Trials]?
At that mont, stunned expressions appeared on everyone’s faces—including Edward’s.
The Divine Tomb did not seem to be called by that na, did it?
And what exactly was this [Godfiend Trials]? What did it have to do with Whitemist Town?
But very quickly, Caelan noticed the key part of the announcent.
A limited-ti treasure Instance?
What did that an?
Before this, Caelan had never encountered such an Instance.
Seeing the confusion in Caelan’s eyes, Evelyn stepped forward and explained on her own initiative,
"Limited-ti treasure Instances are mostly reward-based Instances. As long as you achieve the mission objectives, you’ll receive abundant rewards."
"It seems this ti, our Divine Tomb operation won’t be able to proceed quietly after all."
The mont she finished speaking, a savage aura ca charging over from the northwest of Whitemist Town!
It was a one-horned demon, with faint arcs of lightning flickering around the horn on its forehead.
The instant Edward saw the creature appear, even the grief on his face froze. His eyes were filled with utter disbelief.
"Severin—the peerless genius of the Dark Unicorn Clan—why is he here?!"
In the next mont, another awakener team appeared within the bounds of Whitemist Town.
Leading them was a one-eyed succubus, her entire body radiating an iron-blooded, battle-hardened aura. It was completely different from the subtle, seductive charm usually associated with succubi.
"Balinne the succubus... why is she here too?!"
At that mont, Edward sank into deep self-doubt.
The young powerhouses of the Abyss were arriving one after another!
