Capítulo 1795: Chapter 1784: Signs of Betrayal

Due to severe injuries, coupled with mbers of the Blood Clan constantly wandering the streets of New York.

Hilde temporarily decided not to return to the Holy Mountain and stayed here to recuperate.

All the daily essentials were brought from the outside world by Stuart.

In the information-rich modern era, Hilde of course noticed the sensational event of the flying superhero during this period.

It’s hard not to see it, as all the TV channels were filled with news about it.

Having long dealt with the Alien Clan, Hilde quickly understood the underlying trickery.

Regarding the Blood Clan’s thirteen families joining forces with other Alien Clans to establish an autonomous region, the Sanctuary of Light received the news early on.

At the ti, there were people in the Sanctuary advocating for fierce asures to punish the Alien Clans, as a ans to coerce the Blood Clan to halt this plan.

In the Hall of Light, archbishops, bishops, and other clergy argued incessantly about this issue.

Yet, strangely, the Pope seed indifferent and even ordered that no one should interfere with this matter.

Although sowhat puzzled, the archbishops complied with the Pope’s orders.

If not for the Pope’s current order to capture Alice, Hilde would have thought the Sanctuary had truly beco timid.

Hilde had to admit that the present Sanctuary is far from the influence it had during the dieval era, when Holy Light was pervasive.

Especially in the past century, the Sanctuary had largely remained in a secluded state.

Even with the Exorcism Association’s betrayal, it chose to turn a blind eye.

This left the Sanctuary’s believers feeling exceptionally frustrated, yet without an edict from the Pope, no one was permitted to descend from the mountains on their own accord.

The believers could only suppress their anger within their hearts, influenced by religious thought. They believed it was their own lack of strength that humiliated the Sanctuary.

Besides secretly bringing back the scattered Blessed Ones to the Holy Mountain,

the only major action the Sanctuary had taken in recent years was Hilde’s mission to capture Alice.

“But I ssed up this matter.”

Thinking of the Pope waiting at the Holy Mountain for triumph, Hilde’s gaze turned sinister.

Returning to Mount of Light would inevitably lead to a fall from power, sothing Hilde was already ntally prepared for.

At most, it would an a period of cooling off, which Hilde could use to refine the power of projection.

However, there was one matter Hilde could not ignore.

Hilde turned her gaze towards the newspaper on the table, a copy of the Manhattan Chronicle, featuring a phone interview.

Unlike Ning Fan, Hilde witnessed the events of that day from start to finish, being thoroughly clear on the matter.

Hilde imdiately deduced that the anonymous person in the newspaper was the human nad Adams.

Hilde mused, “But isn’t this person already dead? Is it possible for Stuart to have made a mistake?”

A cold gleam flashed in Hilde’s eyes, as she muttered coldly, “So this ans the Sanctuary’s most excellent Starlight Knight has deceived ?”

When Adams was killed to silence him, although it wasn’t ordered directly by Hilde, the intent was recognized.

However, Stuart had defied this intent and even created a false death scenario to deceive her.

“Stuart, do you know you’ve betrayed and deceived ?”

Hilde sighed, her perception of Stuart changed significantly.

In Hilde’s view, betrayal is like a seed, once rooted, it will sprout.

A first ti leads to a second.

Betrayal isn’t what matters, the crucial part is the identity of the betrayer.

In the Sanctuary of Light, Hilde had witnessed many betrayals for power and profit, and beca accustod to it.

But the power struggle seldom involved the Templar Knights.

To those clergy wielding significant power, the Templar Knights are but a blade, a blade for purging Alien Clans, a Blade of Judgnt for upholding Sanctuary laws.

Now that the blade doesn’t obey, what thoughts does its master hold?

Hilde quietly sighed, “Stuart, what should I do with you?”

At that mont, Stuart’s voice ca from outside the door, “Archbishop, is it convenient for you now?”

Hilde’s mind stirred, she folded the newspaper again, making it look as when it was first brought in.

“Co in!”

Stuart glanced at the newspaper on the table, a barely noticeable ease in his brow, then said, “Archbishop, here are today’s newspaper and newly purchased food.”

Seated on the faraway sofa, Hilde replied without turning, “Place it on the table.”

“Let tidy it up for you.”

“Hmm!”

Hilde acknowledged, continuing to pray with closed eyes.

Tidying up the miscellaneous items on the table, Stuart glanced guiltily at the newspaper, then naturally rolled up that stack of expired papers.

After leaving, looking at the newspapers in his hand, Stuart flipped through them, sighing with relief.

The stack of newspapers remained undisturbed since bought, clearly unread.

“I didn’t intend to deceive you, I just don’t know how to explain.”

Stuart sighed softly.

Initially, when buying the newspapers, Stuart hadn’t paid attention to the content they published.

It was only when buying items this morning that he heard ntions of “Alice,” “Blood Clan Princess,” and “lover.”

Realizing things had gone awry, Stuart hurriedly browsed today’s newly purchased newspaper and found a critical article.

The content was akin to a dramatic screenplay, about a human falling in love with a Blood Clan princess, attracting a priest’s exorcism verdict, and the flying superhero coming to rescue the lovers.

Compared to other newspapers’ absurd speculations, this article seed ordinary, lacking sensational elents.

But after Stuart read it, he was taken aback; the content, though sowhat exaggerated, clearly described the day’s events.

Manhattan Chronicle

morizing the publication’s na, Stuart quickly bought another issue of the newspaper from previous days, finally finding the phone interview.

Stuart imdiately understood; the person in the article was the Adams he spared due to a whim of benevolence.

The most critical issue was that every day he brought ho newspapers including the Manhattan Chronicle, featuring the interview in print.

Stuart hastily returned, intending to reveal the situation on the spot.

But noticing the newspapers bore no sign of being read, Stuart held onto a slim hope, opting to continue concealing the truth.

Stuart’s actions were not out of self-interest.

If anything can be said, those actions were for the sake of the Sanctuary of Light.

For such a disgraceful act like killing to silence, Stuart didn’t want the revered, righteous Sanctuary of Light to be stained by bad reputation due to such matters.

Therefore, upon receiving the order to eliminate, Stuart chose to relent.

The reason he didn’t disclose these matters to Hilde was entirely out of consideration for her.
