For Chen Fei, only two things could truly pique his interest these days: one was his Cultivation Level, and the other was his Chinese dicine skills. Having received the inheritance of a great expert from the Cultivation World, he was suprely confident in his own art, which in turn sparked his interest in the dical Sage Hall.
dical Sage Hall. Such a grandiose na! Surely it can't be just an empty reputation.
As Chen Fei mused, a faint smile touched his lips. "Why don't you give that Elder Xunn a call first? It just so happens I need to get so information from him." In truth, he didn't need any information; this was rely a gesture of courtesy. When treating another doctor's patient, it was proper etiquette to notify them first. It was an unwritten rule of their profession, a sign of respect for one's peers and elders.
"Alright, I'll call Elder Xunn," Lei Long replied, not overthinking it. He picked up a satellite phone and dialed a mysteriously short number. The slow beeps that followed seed to synchronize with the heartbeats of everyone present, and the room fell silent.
"Hello?" A mont later, the call connected, and a faint, elderly voice ca through the line. Upon hearing it, however, Chen Fei suddenly froze.
"Hello, Elder Xunn. This is Lei Long from Flying Leopard," Lei Long said respectfully into the phone.
Despite having once been a peak King of Soldiers, and even though he was now half-crippled, he still possessed a status beyond the imagination of ordinary people. To put it simply, if his current standing were converted into an official rank, even a mayor of an Earth Level city like Huang Tao would be half a step below him. That alone spoke volus.
Yet even so, his attitude was profoundly respectful. What did that imply? It ant the other party's status was definitely higher than his, perhaps by more than just a little! A true big shot!
"Oh, it's you, Little Lei. Is the snake venom in your body flaring up again? No, that can't be right. According to my calculations, it shouldn't be ti yet. Could my last treatnt have been flawed…?" the voice on the other end murmured, a hint of confusion in his tone.
For a physician of his caliber, making a mistake was an almost unheard-of occurrence. But now Lei Long was calling ahead of schedule, which didn't match his expectations. Could it be that I actually made an error last ti?
"Um, Elder Xunn, it's not that. It's like this..." Lei Long began, only to trail off in embarrassnt.
It was only then that he fully realized the awkwardness of his position. My poison and illness have always been treated by Elder Xunn. Now, I've suddenly found another doctor. Isn't that a bit offensive, as if I don't trust the skills of a national dical master... of Elder Xunn?!
Just as Lei Long floundered, unsure how to explain, Chen Fei, who was standing by the bed, smiled. "Give the phone. I'll talk to him." He had obviously recognized the voice on the other end. So, after all this, it's an 'acquaintance'!
"Oh, of course. Mr. Chen, you can speak to him."
Although Lei Long was surprised by Chen Fei's directness, it was a welco escape from his predicant. He imdiately nodded and handed the black satellite phone to Chen Fei.
"Hello, Elder Xunn. It's , Chen Fei," Chen Fei said with a smile, his eyes narrowing slightly as he took the phone.
"Chen Fei?"
The elderly voice on the other end hesitated for a mont, then his tone suddenly shot up in delighted surprise. "Doctor Chen, is that you?" He clearly rembered who Chen Fei was. He had spoken with Chen Fei once over the phone back at the Dong Family Villa, and it had left a profound impression on him.
Furthermore, he had already received news that Elder Dong had not only made a full recovery but had even advanced his cultivation. How could he possibly forget Chen Fei, this urban prodigy?
Despite their vast age difference, he believed Chen Fei's dical skills might rival his own and could even surpass his in treating certain rare and difficult cases. A true dical genius, the likes of which hadn't been seen in centuries!
"Doctor… Chen?"
Seeing this, Lei Long and Chief Luo were stunned. Despite their usual composure, they were shocked to hear Elder Xunn—the Master of the dical Sage Hall of Huaxia—speaking to Chen Fei in a tone reserved for equals. Their expressions froze, and they stared at Chen Fei as if they were seeing a ghost.
Their first reaction was disbelief. This kid knows Elder Xunn of the dical Sage Hall? Impossible! But their second thought was even more shocking. Heavens, Elder Xunn is using that tone with Chen Fei? Are we dreaming? This is unbelievable.
As the Master of the dical Sage Hall of Huaxia, Elder Xunn might not be the single best traditional physician in the country, but he was undoubtedly in the top three. Yet now, he was treating a young man like Chen Fei with such importance! What did this imply? It ant Chen Fei's dical skills were likely on par with his. Otherwise, Elder Xunn would never adopt such an attitude!
At this thought, both Lei Long and Chief Luo's gazes changed, and they stared at Chen Fei as if he were so kind of young monster, their eyes filled with shock.
In their eyes, Chen Fei was in his early twenties at most. How could soone so young possess dical skills acknowledged by the great Elder Xunn himself? Even if he'd started learning dicine in the womb, it's impossible to beco this formidable in just twenty years, right? Elder Xunn was well over a hundred and had been practicing dicine for nearly a century!
"Mr. Chen, you're with Little Lei? Oh, right, it must be about the poison in his body. How is it? Do you have any leads? With your dical skills, Mr. Chen, it's certainly possible you could resolve that poison," Elder Xunn said from the other end of the line.
His words sent another jolt through Lei Long and Chief Luo, and expressions of pure shock spread across their faces. They were on the verge of gaping, their eyes wide.
They rembered when Elder Xunn had personally co to the Flying Leopard base to examine Lei Long. He had openly admitted he was powerless to eradicate the poison and could only suppress it, which was like using a cup of water to douse a burning cart.
But now, his words suggested he believed this young man, Chen Fei, could actually cure the 'Saliva of the Snake King' and free Lei Long from his current wretched, inhuman existence. This was simply incredible. What did that imply? Could it be that Chen Fei's dical skills were even greater than Elder Xunn's?
Can he really rid of the Saliva of the Snake King? Lei Long felt his heart pound more frantically than ever before, his palms slick with sweat.
As for Chief Luo, he was staring at Chen Fei as if he had discovered a priceless treasure. The more he looked, the more he liked what he saw. What a talent! Not only does he possess strength surpassing an ordinary First-Class Ancient Warrior in his twenties, but even the venerable Master of the dical Sage Hall of Huaxia—Elder Xunn—acknowledges his dical proficiency and admits his own inferiority! It's simply unbelievable!
"I have a slight lead, as I believe I've encountered this poison before," Chen Fei said, his words pouring a bit of cold water on their excitent. "But it has been seven years, so I can't be certain if I can succeed."
"Well, success is determined by effort. When it cos to these difficult and complex diseases, you are indeed more capable than I am. Perhaps there's a glimr of hope. How about this? I'll share the notes I've compiled over the years. It might serve as a useful reference," Elder Xunn offered slowly.
"Elder Xunn, you're too kind! Having your years of summarized experience would surely save a lot of missteps. Just a mont, let find a pen and paper," Chen Fei said excitedly, signaling to Chief Luo what he needed.
"One mont," Chief Luo said softly, turning to fetch them.
"Alright, Elder Xunn, I'm ready," Chen Fei said after taking the paper and pen. He found a stool and sat down at the table, beginning a conversation that would last for half an hour.
During that ti, Chen Fei maintained a professional deanor, genuinely discussing the case with Elder Xunn. However, his brow furrowed deeper and deeper, a subtle change that did not escape Chief Luo's observant eyes.
"Mr. Chen, that is all the information I have for now," Elder Xunn finally said in a serious tone. "Why don't you take so ti to think it over alone? I'm afraid if I say any more, I might interfere with your thought process."
He knew he had contributed all he could. Now, it was all up to Chen Fei, whose ability to handle such esoteric cases surpassed his own. Given this, it was best for him to stop offering opinions, as it could disrupt Chen Fei's independent thinking, which would be counterproductive.
"Understood, Elder Xunn. I'll hang up now," Chen Fei replied, clearly grasping the reasoning. He ended the call and fell into deep thought, his fingers starting to tap rhythmically on the tabletop.
At this sight, Lei Long was by far the most nervous person in the room. This monstrous condition had tornted him for seven long years. Though he had endured it, if there was truly a chance for a cure, he wanted to seize it with every fiber of his being. He was sick of it.
Chief Luo was equally anxious. He had been watching Chen Fei's face during the call. I saw him frown involuntarily several tis. Did that reaction an... that the situation is extrely difficult, and that Chen Fei is also helpless?
"Instructor Lei, close your eyes," Chen Fei said suddenly, standing up. He took a roll of Golden Needles from an inner pocket and looked at Lei Long with a grave expression.
At that mont, he finally admitted to himself that he had seriously underestimated the so-called 'Saliva of the Snake King.' Or rather, the Saliva of the Snake King I've seen before is simply incomparable to the poison inside Lei Long! This version is at least twice as potent. At that level of toxicity, I'm afraid I can only give it a try and see what happens...
