"He fled to Africa? He really did run far. It seems he already guessed that the destruction of Crimson Fang was related to . Your Excellency Amotig, I am now in Limassol, Cyprus. Bring him directly to ; I have so questions I'd like to ask him." Chen Fei said with a smile after receiving Amotig's call.
"At your service, Your Excellency," Amotig responded anxiously over the phone. He then let out what sounded like a huge sigh of relief before hanging up.
For the past month, he had been on pins and needles. After all, if he couldn't find this Child of Light, things would get troubleso—God only knew if Chen Fei would co after him. Fortunately, he had found him. Thank goodness…
Roughly half a day later, Amotig brought the Child of Light to Cyprus and presented him to Chen Fei.
"Oh, you've worked hard, Your Excellency Amotig. Thank you for helping find him."
As he watched Amotig arrive with the black man, whose face had been a mask of despair and fear from the mont he walked through the door, Chen Fei couldn't help but let the corner of his mouth curl into a smirk. Subconsciously, he reached to touch the spot on his neck where the bullet had scarred him, only to be taken aback. It's already healed?
The bullet wound he'd received had now healed completely, not even leaving a mark.
Seeing this, Chen Fei shook his head with a sense of helplessness. A mont later, his dark, translucent eyes, like lustrous glass, t those of the man he had been searching for. A faint chill surfaced in his gaze. "You recognize , don't you? From the high-speed railway station…"
Hearing Chen Fei's words, the black man began to tremble even more violently.
Are you kidding ? How could I not recognize him? Because of this one man from the East, Crimson Fang—one of the top assassin organizations in Italy, and even all of Europe—was completely wiped out, reduced to the dust of history! Because of this one man, I, the Child of Light, was forced to flee to Africa and hide in one of the most chaotic and underdeveloped regions on the continent. And yet, in the end, I was still dragged out. The person who captured was none other than one of Crimson Fang's four forr aces, a legendary assassin code-nad Magician: the great Amotig. It's simply unbelievable.
But that wasn't what terrified most. The most terrifying thing was my master, Jack the Blade. He was hailed as a legendary assassin in the dark Assassin World on Earth, a man who once infiltrated the Vatican Holy See Church, carried out a hit, and escaped completely unscathed. And yet, that very man was killed by this youth, who looks to be in his twenties. How could I ever believe it? How could I accept it?
It's only now that I'm beginning to understand why the old guard in the Assassin World is so wary of that land, why they're so unwilling to accept missions there. Huaxia is just too mysterious, too strange. A super ancient country with thousands of years of civilization… it must hold countless unknown secrets and unfathomable horrors. No wonder. They can pull out so random young man who can annihilate our Crimson Fang and slaughter my master, the legendary assassin Jack the Blade. Who would dare to court disaster in such a place, such a nation? Who would dare to provoke them?
"Perhaps you should answer my question. Otherwise… you must know that we Ancient Martial Artists of Huaxia have many peculiar ways to torture people, right? I assure you, if you'd like a demonstration, I can let you experience all of them. But if it cos to that, you might find that even Hell is a more pleasant alternative to living." Just as the Child of Light was lost in his despairing thoughts, a calm, cold voice suddenly spoke beside his ear, making his entire body jolt.
"S-Sir, my apologies. I was just… too scared. I'm willing to answer any of your questions. I only hope that you'll grant a painless death. That is my only wish now."
He began speaking rapidly, pleading with Chen Fei. He knew all too well that with things having reached this point, with Crimson Fang gone and his master dead, there was no chance his target would spare him, the one who pulled the trigger. Thinking of this, he couldn't help but shake his head and lant, "If I had known the target was soone as terrifying as you, I never would have accepted the mission and run to my own death, no matter how proud or confident I was."
"And yet, there are no 'what-ifs'." Chen Fei glanced at him and said coldly, "Do you have any idea that your bullet caused an innocent person to be injured because of ? Let be frank, I detest that sort of thing. Not to ntion, your target was . So, you should understand that I have no intention of letting you go. However, if you can answer my questions to my satisfaction, I can grant you a painless death."
"Thank you. Ask whatever you wish. I'll tell you everything honestly," the Child of Light said, finally breathing a small sigh of relief. He knew a man of Chen Fei's stature wouldn't lie to him about sothing like this.
For a killer like him, whose hands were stained with blood, death itself wasn't the most frightening thing. The true horror was being tortured to death. They themselves had done it often, listening to the desperate wails and tragic screams of their victims. The visceral fear from those monts was still fresh in his mory, an experience he had no desire to undergo himself.
"It's simple. I want to know who hired you to kill . I had His Excellency Amotig check all of Crimson Fang's internal mission records, and there seems to be no docuntation or archive of this job," Chen Fei said, a cold glint flashing in his dark eyes.
He had gone through all this trouble for one reason: to find out who was trying to kill him from the shadows. He truly hated hidden enemies. They were not only hard to guard against, but also introduced too many unnecessary risks… just like what had happened at the Northern Mountain City High-Speed Railway Station.
"He must have accepted this job privately. Otherwise, it's impossible for there to be no trace of it within the organization," Amotig interjected. As he spoke, he shot the Child of Light a bone-chilling glare. If it weren't for this man taking on a private mission, none of this chaos would have happened. A monster like Chen Fei would never have been provoked, and Crimson Fang would not have been annihilated.
"It was a man from Huaxia nad Wuu Xiaojun. I don't know his background, but I have his photo and our private voice chat records," the Child of Light said with a helpless twist of his lips.
Upon hearing the na, Chen Fei frowned deeply. Wuu Xiaojun? Him again. After all this, it cos back to him. Wuu Xiaojun… who exactly is this guy? I can't recall ever provoking such a troubleso person. He's certainly persistent. After I brought down Crimson Fang, is he already moving on to hire Blood Blade without missing a beat?
Just then, his phone rang. He pulled it out and saw the caller ID: Xuu Ji.
Looks like there's news, Chen Fei thought, imdiately connecting the call to the investigation he'd requested. Talk about perfect timing.
"Hello, Brother Xuu? Have you found anything?" he answered quickly.
"Yes. I've looked into that matter you asked about," Xuu Ji reported imdiately. "That Wuu Xiaojun is one of the core disciples of the Wuu Family in Capital City. He's been very close to Sunx Long lately. My sources also discovered that he's been in contact with a mysterious overseas IP address…"
"Sunx Long? A mysterious IP address?"
Hearing the first part of the explanation, Chen Fei had a sudden realization. So it was that kid. The sa one I got kicked out of Elder Quan's tutelage. He was the one who secretly hired an assassin to kill … That explains everything.
"Brother Xuu, send that foreign IP address. You don't need to worry about the rest; I'll handle it myself. Thanks a lot," Chen Fei said with a smile, feeling much more relaxed now that he had the answers he was looking for.
"Alright, I'll send you the information as soon as we hang up. But, Mr. Chen, the atmosphere in Forty-Nine City has been tense lately. If you're going to… well, it's best not to cause too much of a stir," Xuu Ji said after a mont's hesitation.
A tense atmosphere? Chen Fei paused, his mind flashing back to his conversation with Old Master Xuu. He imdiately understood that Xuu Ji was deliberately warning him. It seems the situation in Forty-Nine City is even more intense than I'd imagined.
"Don't worry, Brother Xuu. I know what to do," he said with a confident nod before ending the call. He then showed the mysterious foreign IP address Xuu Ji had sent him to the Child of Light. "Do you recognize this?"
"Yes," the Child of Light nodded readily. "That's the IP I used when I was in contact with that man from Huaxia. But I've already decommissioned it, so you won't find anything by tracing it now."
"Is that so? Well then, it seems there's nothing more I need to ask," Chen Fei said, his eyes narrowing into a smile that didn't hide the coldness within them. "Your Excellency Amotig, I'll leave the rest to you. Farewell."
He stood up as he spoke and walked out of the hotel room. Now that the answers he sought were laid bare before him, it was ti to go back.
Co to think of it, I've been away for almost two months. Ti really flies.
