The sky gradually darkened.
On the rooftop of Ye Xiu’s villa, two people lay prone, as motionless as statues. They were none other than the Demon North Duo, Feng Ping and Yan Ni.
"It’s already seven-thirty. Why isn’t Ye Xiu back yet?" Feng Ping said impatiently.
"Have so patience. Ye Xiu is the Xuanse dicine King, after all. He must have a lot of social events. Maybe he’ll be out until midnight before he gets back..."
Yan Ni hadn’t finished speaking when she suddenly saw a car approaching. She asked softly, "Is that Ye Xiu driving?"
Neither she nor Feng Ping had ever seen Ye Xiu before.
"Anyone coming here at this ti must be Ye Xiu," Feng Ping stated with conviction. "Get ready. We strike to kill in one blow, then sever his left arm and leave imdiately."
As he spoke, he coiled his body like a tiger ready to pounce, able to leap at any mont and snap its prey’s neck. Yan Ni did the sa.
The car pulled up in front of the villa, and Ye Xiu and Qin Qing got out.
Just then, Feng Ping and Yan Ni leaped from the rooftop, swooping down. At the sa ti, they each drew the Fine Steel Soft Swords wrapped around their waists. With a flick of their wrists, the swords snapped taut and straight, aiming directly for Ye Xiu and Qin Qing’s hearts.
This all happened too suddenly. The Demon North Duo attacked in silence and with incredible speed. As a result, Qin Qing was completely unaware of the imminent disaster. Ye Xiu hadn’t told her about the assassins lurking on the rooftop, and with her level of skill, she likely would only realize she was being ambushed the mont a sword pierced her body.
Of course, Ye Xiu wasn’t about to let that happen. The mont the Demon North Duo made their move, he was already prepared.
However, before he could act, two pebbles shot out from a distance, targeting Feng Ping and Yan Ni’s heads.
Feng Ping and Yan Ni were stunned. They had never expected that while they were ambushing Ye Xiu, soone else would be ambushing them. The shock made them gasp. They instinctively swung their swords to deflect the pebbles, executing a three-hundred-sixty-degree spin in mid-air before landing gracefully on the ground.
"Who is it?" Feng Ping demanded angrily, his sharp gaze fixed on the direction the pebbles had co from.
"You cowardly cur! Show yourself if you dare to fight us!" Yan Ni said coldly.
Ye Xiu also looked toward the source of the pebbles. This developnt was completely unexpected; Chloe hadn’t told him there was another group of assassins hidden at the villa.
anwhile, Qin Qing was just processing what had happened, her face a mask of shock and confusion. She hadn’t even seen when Feng Ping and Yan Ni appeared.
A mocking voice ca from afar. "Since you wish to die, I might as well co out."
Ye Xiu’s eyes narrowed. The voice was a hundred ters away, and his view was obstructed by nurous plants. He couldn’t see the speaker at all. Yet, this person had managed to ambush the Demon North Duo with two pebbles from such a distance, through so many obstacles. This individual’s strength was not to be underestimated, and they were clearly an expert with Hidden Weapons.
The Demon North Duo had obviously reached the sa conclusion.
"This person is very strong. We might not be their match," Yan Ni whispered.
"Let’s see who it is first. Even if they’re a Great Grandmaster, we should be able to retreat unscathed if we work together," Feng Ping said.
As they spoke, they stared intently at the source of the voice. Soon, a drenched, middle-aged man of about forty appeared in their line of sight.
"Tang Yuan?" Feng Ping cried out in alarm upon recognizing the man.
Yan Ni’s expression turned grim. Both of them seed to dread Tang Yuan imnsely.
Ye Xiu, anwhile, narrowed his eyes. He didn’t recognize Tang Yuan personally but had heard of his notorious reputation: a traitor of the Divine Will Sect, a notorious philanderer, and the lowest of scum. His wickedness was said to surpass even that of the Demon North Duo.
Ye Xiu gave a bitter smile. A 200 million gold reward has really drawn out all these masters of the unorthodox path.
"Yo, you recognize ?" Tang Yuan sauntered over like a carefree playboy and said with a sinister grin, "Tsk tsk, my luck is incredible today. Not only do I get to chop off Ye Xiu’s left arm for a life of wealth and luxury, but I also get to slaughter the famous Demon North Duo—a feat that not even the Eight Great National Protector War Gods could manage after years of pursuit. This will be quite the bountiful harvest."
"Don’t be so arrogant," Feng Ping said coldly. "Do you think the Demon North Duo’s reputation is just for show? You alone can’t kill us."
"We’ll see about that," Tang Yuan said. With a flick of his right hand, a Flying Dagger gleaming with a cold light shot toward Feng Ping.
"Take him down!" Feng Ping bellowed. His Fine Steel Soft Sword erupted into a flurry of strikes, miraculously deflecting Tang Yuan’s lethal throw.
At the sa mont, Yan Ni charged toward Tang Yuan, sword in hand. After blocking the projectile, Feng Ping also rushed forward.
Tang Yuan was not at all surprised that his Flying Dagger had been blocked. With his hands moving in concert, he unleashed a volley of Flying Daggers. As they charged, Feng Ping and Yan Ni weaved and dodged, alternately deflecting Tang Yuan’s projectiles.
"The Demon North Duo is quite clever," Ye Xiu said with a smile, pulling Qin Qing to sit with him on the villa’s front steps.
"What do you an?" Qin Qing asked.
"Tang Yuan’s greatest strength is his Hidden Weapons. To beat him, you have to force a close-quarters fight," Ye Xiu explained. "The Demon North Duo are clever; one of them deflects the Flying Daggers while the other rushes to close the distance. As soon as one of them can engage Tang Yuan up close, he’ll lose the chance to throw more projectiles. He’ll be forced into a lee against their combined assault."
Qin Qing listened, stunned. She suddenly realized that simply learning Martial Arts wasn’t enough; one also needed to understand the techniques of various sects. Only then could one devise the best strategy when facing an enemy.
"Wait a second..." Qin Qing suddenly rembered sothing. "Do you know them?"
"I know of the Demon North Duo, but this is my first ti seeing Tang Yuan," Ye Xiu said. "They all took the bounty to kill ."
"If they’re here to kill you, why are they fighting each other?" she asked.
"Because they each want to kill the other and take the entire reward for themselves," Ye Xiu replied.
"What level are the Demon North Duo and Tang Yuan?" Qin Qing asked.
"The Demon North Duo are a husband and wife team, and both are Eighth Grade Grandmasters. When they work together, their combined strength is nearly invincible below the Great Grandmaster level. Although Tang Yuan is also an Eighth Grade Grandmaster, he was once a once-in-a-century genius of the Divine Will Sect. His strength is very close to that of a Great Grandmaster, and he’s an expert with Hidden Weapons."
"It sounds like their strength is evenly matched. Who do you think will win?" Qin Qing asked.
"It’ll end with both sides heavily wounded," Ye Xiu predicted. "The Demon North Duo’s swordsmanship is unique, and their movent technique is agile. Tang Yuan’s Hidden Weapons can only chip away at them, causing minor injuries at best. But once the duo gets into close range, it’s inevitable that both sides will be badly hurt."
Just as he spoke, the Demon North Duo finally closed in on Tang Yuan, but they paid a considerable price. Feng Ping’s left arm had been gashed by a Flying Dagger, and Yan Ni had taken another in her right thigh.
Now that they were at close range, however, Tang Yuan no longer had the ti or opportunity to launch his projectiles. He was forced into a lee.
