Ye Xiu was baffled. Who was this girl? She was acting all high and mighty, wearing a floral sundress and looking so thin she could be malnourished.
"Do you have a house, a car, and savings?" the girl asked directly before Ye Xiu could speak.
It dawned on Ye Xiu that she was here for a blind date and had mistaken him for soone else. "Miss, you’ve got the wrong person," he said. "I’m not your date!"
The girl paused, then retorted, "Impossible. The corner table by the window in the Vienna Coffee Shop. That’s you. Hmph, don’t tell you’re only denying it because you feel inferior, what with being so pretty, having a good figure, and carrying myself with such poise?"
Heh. She calls *that* pretty? And carrying yourself like soone owes you fifty cents is what you call poise? Give a break.
Ye Xiu was almost too speechless to bother. "You really have the wrong person," he insisted.
"How can you be like this? I only agreed to et you for my mother’s and Aunt Liu’s sake. I’m doing you a favor, so don’t be so ungrateful..." the girl fud, beginning to curse.
Before she could finish, a young man from the next table approached them, looking embarrassed. "Are you Zhang Lulu? I’m Wu Junzhuo. Uh, that table was already occupied when I arrived, so I just sat at the one next to it."
Zhang Lulu froze in awkward silence for three seconds before glaring at Ye Xiu with contempt. "I knew it! How could Aunt Liu possibly set up with a country bumpkin like you? You’re dressed in flea market clothes, yet you’re here pretending to be so rich guy drinking coffee. Shaless!"
Her voice was quite loud, attracting the attention of the other patrons, who all turned to look.
"I was just sitting here enjoying my coffee. You mistook for soone else, and instead of apologizing, you insult . Don’t you think you’ve gone too far?" Ye Xiu said with a frown. This girl was being utterly unreasonable.
"Oh, you dare talk back?" Zhang Lulu exploded, retorting venomously. "Am I wrong? You’re just a poor country bumpkin! You belong on a construction site drinking cold water, not in here. People like you drinking coffee only lowers the class of this place."
"Psycho," Ye Xiu muttered, deciding not to engage with her any further.
"You dare curse at ?" Zhang Lulu bristled. She turned angrily to Wu Junzhuo. "Are you even a man? He’s insulting , and you’re not going to say a damn thing?"
Wu Junzhuo imdiately stepped up to Ye Xiu’s table and said coldly, "Sir, I demand that you apologize to Miss Zhang at once."
"Apologize?" Ye Xiu couldn’t believe his ears. "Mr. Wu, you were sitting right there. You saw and heard exactly how she approached , what she said, and what her attitude was like. Do you really think I should be the one to apologize to her?"
"I heard you call Miss Zhang a psycho with my own ears. That makes you wrong. If you don’t apologize, don’t bla for getting rough," Wu Junzhuo said unreasonably. He was inwardly ecstatic. The matchmaker, Aunt Liu, had told him that Zhang Lulu’s family was very well-off. In contrast, he had a decent job but a poor family background; his parents were just ordinary office workers.
He had assud this blind date was just a formality and that Zhang Lulu would surely look down on him. But who would have thought this fool, Ye Xiu, would provide him with an assist? This was his chance to show off in front of Zhang Lulu. Maybe she would even develop a good impression of him because of it.
"You’re being unreasonable!" Ye Xiu said, his frown deepening.
"Are you a damn man or not?" Wu Junzhuo said impatiently. "It doesn’t matter what she did before. You insulted her, so you’re in the wrong. You’re the man, so you should be the one to apologize."
At that mont, it wasn’t just Ye Xiu whose worldview was shattered—it was everyone’s in the coffee shop.
The woman was a piece of work! And the man was an even bigger piece of work! They truly were a match made in heaven.
"Wu Junzhuo, stop wasting ti! If he won’t apologize, just beat him up! Hurry!" Zhang Lulu urged impatiently.
"Alright, Lulu, don’t be angry. Leave it to ," Wu Junzhuo said, putting on a sycophantic display to soothe her. He then glared at Ye Xiu and threatened, "I’ll give you one last chance. Apologize to Zhang Lulu right now, or I’m making my move. I’ll have you know, I was in the Sanda club in university. A small fry like you won’t be able to take a single punch from ."
As he spoke, he rolled up the sleeves of his white shirt, squaring up to fight.
Ye Xiu was speechless. "My luck today is sothing else. It’s like I went out without looking and stepped in two piles of dog shit. What a foul day."
"Who are you calling dog shit?" Zhang Lulu shrieked. She snapped at Wu Junzhuo, "Get him! What are you waiting for, the food to be served?"
"Right away! Lulu, watch this. See how I’ll make him kneel on the ground and kowtow to you in apology," Wu Junzhuo boasted. He then cocked back his arm and threw a right hook at Ye Xiu’s face. He focused on making the punch look as stylish as possible, hoping it would win him major points with Zhang Lulu.
Seeing Wu Junzhuo finally take action, Zhang Lulu bead with a triumphant smile, eagerly anticipating the sight of a beaten Ye Xiu kneeling and begging for her forgiveness.
The other custors broke into a cold sweat for Ye Xiu. Although he and Wu Junzhuo were about the sa height, Wu Junzhuo was broad and stocky, while Ye Xiu looked more like a slender, fresh-faced celebrity. They could guess the outco without even watching. Ye Xiu would surely be knocked to the ground, then rcilessly mocked and humiliated by the couple.
However, the scene that followed made everyone’s jaws drop. It was completely unexpected.
Before Wu Junzhuo’s fist could even reach Ye Xiu’s face, a loud SMACK! cut through the air. Ye Xiu’s hand had already struck Wu Junzhuo across the face.
Wu Junzhuo’s robust body spun around three full tis on the spot before he plopped onto the ground in a daze, a crystal-clear, red handprint blooming on his cheek.
