Two days later.
Major Najif, the commander of the Suicide Squad at the fireproof factory, had been restless these past few days.
He felt the pressure.
Since Sadam was arrested in Tikrit, he hadn't had a good night's sleep.
As the situation in Mosul gradually beca clearer, Najif had made preparations to relocate, and he had already contacted the organization in Rubat to transport the gold to the southern desert.
Regardless, Gaiala was no longer safe.
"Major, it's ti for dinner."
A subordinate ca and knocked on his office door.
"Alright, I'll be there soon."
He looked at his watch, and it was already six in the evening.
It was getting dark.
As he stepped out of his office, he surveyed his surroundings.
The corners of the factory's walls all had fixed sentries.
His subordinates were all dressed as civilians, but they hid guns under their robes.
His gaze swept over several buildings.
He could vaguely see small rooms on the rooftops, similar to watchtowers.
Those were machine gun posts, all manned with heavy machine guns.
These little watchtowers had all been added by his orders.
His goal was simple, to conceal the machine gunners from aerial reconnaissance.
Even if US Army reconnaissance planes flew overhead, they would only see a factory still in operation, nothing else.
All the sentries were in place.
Najif's restless heart settled a bit.
He walked to the cafeteria at a leisurely pace.
This factory area was a closed-off world.
Apart from a small fraction of the Suicide Squad mbers who were on rotational leave, the other two hundred people lived in this factory area, because it was well-equipped with dormitories, office buildings, and warehouses. Not just two hundred people, but even a battalion's strength of troops could be accommodated.
al tis were the happiest monts.
The food in the cafeteria was very good.
Because they were not short of money...
Of course, with so much gold, how could they be short of money?
Before transporting the gold here, Najif had soone lt three gold bricks into bars and sold them off at different black markets.
The funds from that sale were still not completely spent.
Rebuilding the army, organizing a counterattack...
Now, it seed, hope was becoming more and more elusive.
As the commander of the squad guarding the gold, Najif had already considered embezzling it for himself.
Currently, Illiguo was like a battleground for warlords, with local ard factions controlling different areas. Those capable and with anti-Sadam backgrounds had joined the stationed US Army and the interim governnt.
For soone like him, a forr mber of the Revolutionary Guard Suicide Squad, joining the new regi was impossible, but organizing an ard force to operate along the borderlands and claiming a small kingdom could make for a comfortable life.
At the table, his subordinate brought him so food.
Bread, mutton, soup...
The soup slled good and inviting.
He took a sniff.
Mutton soup.
Najif couldn't help but take a big sip.
It tasted good...
He grabbed the bread, wrapped so mutton with it, and stuffed it into his mouth, eating ssily with oil dripping everywhere.
As night slowly fell.
In a building far away on the fifth floor, Song Heping sat in front of a spotting scope, peering through a high-magnification lens at the activity inside the fireproof factory.
He saw people coming out of the cafeteria, stretching and yawning.
Then the guards began to change shifts.
6:30 PM.
The guard change always happened at this ti during als.
Just like the previous surveillance logs.
No difference.
After the guard change was complete, Song Heping waited for about half an hour, growing a bit restless.
A voice ca through the headset.
"Song, can we move? It seems like there's no movent at the main gate anymore."
"Not yet..."
Song Heping saw that there still seed to be activity inside the factory.
Soone crossed the open ground, walking from the office building toward the warehouse.
"We need to wait a bit longer..."
"Boss, we also haven't seen anyone enter or exit the back door for a while now. The sentries occasionally passed by here before, and we could see them through the door. It's been over ten minutes since I've seen anyone pass."
Grey Wolf's voice also sounded a bit anxious over the channel.
"Wait a bit longer... everyone just chill! Chill!"
Song Heping actually felt more anxious than anyone.
He couldn't help but turn back and ask Samir behind him.
"Are you sure you put the drugs into their water filtration system?"
"Sure!"
Samir said, "I added over ten kilograms!"
"Are you sure you bought the right drugs?" Song Heping was still a bit worried.
Samir said, "Absolutely the right ones. Right now, here, there's a shortage of drugs for human use, but not for animals. I asked around, a small spoonful can knock out a donkey or even a cal! Those ten kilograms are enough to knock them all out!"
"What if the tank is too large and it got diluted..."
Song Heping muttered to himself.
He couldn't think of a way to infiltrate the factory without alerting the US Army the day before.
Even, to be blunt, whether the power of nine n was enough to break in was another matter.
Song Heping had thought about contacting Avanti to have him send a strike team across the border to assist his operation.
Or to mobilize all the Persian operatives within Illiguo to help.
But on second thought, that would easily expose himself.
No one could guarantee that there were no double agents among those Persians lurking in Illiguo.
The CIA's infiltration capabilities should not be underestimated.
If even one of them was a double agent, it would all be for naught.
That included Song Heping's decision last night to have Avanti release false information claiming that the Persians would act to seize gold in a southern location.
To create a smokescreen, he also had Avanti deliberately move all the operational agents within Illiguo to assemble in the south, creating the false impression that the gold was in a southern city.
