Now reading: Chapter 225 - 192 Crossroads2 from Mercenaries, I Will Be King, a Action novel by Yan Qi Guan.

If they wanted to completely bypass it, it wasn't impossible, but it would require walking several more kiloters, and there was no guarantee that there weren't ard personnel in other areas.

"Take it out."

Song Heping turned his head to look at Mist.

"How so?"

"I think it can be done."

Mist was very straightforward.

They had co this far, had walked this path already.

As the saying goes, there's no turning back once the bow is drawn.

Do it and be done, die if we must.

"Mira, stay here and keep an eye on the equipnt. Wait for our signal. When we tell you to co, then move. We'll stay in touch through the channel."

Mira was quite shocked to see them make a decision so quickly, "Are you really going to go in there and kill them? There are quite a few people in that building, and there's a heavy machine gun on the roof..."

Clearly, he had had a very painful experience here before, and now Song Heping could see the deep fear in his eyes.

"We already killed those two sentries by the river. Sooner or later, they'll be discovered. If they don't return, their superiors will definitely search. If they can't find them, they'll be suspicious, so we no longer have a choice."

"Alright, but be careful."

Mira finally nodded.

He knew he couldn't help much.

Staying here to coordinate and guard the supplies was probably the best option.

"What's your plan?"

Mist scoped out the building at the crossroads.

"Going up from the bottom won't work. We'll definitely get spotted. Once we open fire, our tracks would almost irretrievably be exposed."

Song Heping said as he checked the silencers on both guns.

"Our only option is a stealth kill."

"It's too difficult..."

Mist shook his head.

He wasn't afraid of a straightforward firefight,

but to annihilate them all without allowing the enemy a single shot.

The difficulty level was exponentially higher.

Song Heping said, "It's not difficult."

Mist looked at Song Heping doubtfully, thinking this guy was bluffing.

Not difficult?

FUCK!

Even as a Seal, I wouldn't dare say that. You say it's not difficult?

Are you bluffing through the roof?!

"You cover, I'll make sure they can't make a sound," Song Heping said, "I'll go first, you follow, cover , keep an eye out."

"Fine!"

Mist set up his gun at the corner of the alley, aiming at the building about forty ters away.

If anyone appeared at a window or on the roof, he was ready to take them down with his silenced MK18 assault rifle.

Once Song Heping made sure nobody was watching in his direction, he dashed across, sprinting to the base of a dilapidated building across the street.

"Co on!"

Song Heping turned back and motioned to Mist.

Now it was his turn to cover while Mist moved.

Together, they alternately covered each other until they reached the building at the intersection.

The iron door at the base of the building was locked, but there surely was soone guarding inside.

Breaking through without making noise was nearly impossible.

Mist didn't know where Song Heping got the confidence to handle all the ard personnel inside the building.

"What's your plan?"

He gestured using tactical hand signs, asking Song Heping.

Song Heping whispered, "You stay down here, I'll go up here."

He pointed to a building behind them.

This building was located on the west side of the target building, about twenty ters away, also four stories.

But this building's position wasn't as good as the one at the crossroads; from here, you couldn't control the entire intersection. The target building, however, could control the whole intersection and four roads, offering an excellent line of sight.

Mist didn't understand.

Go up this building?

Climb over?

That didn't make sense.

Twenty ters apart.

How to get across?

Before he could react, Song Heping had already gone upstairs.

The building's stairway was pitch dark.

With the city out of power, any place in Mosul that had light was either from oil lamps or batteries powering the lights.

But usually, lights weren't turned on at night because US Army planes patrolled from the air, and lights would draw attention.

With the help of night-vision goggles, Song Heping could see everything in the darkness.

He had observed this building earlier.

The doors on the first floor were broken.

Wide open, with no one guarding them.

It ant there were no ard personnel here.

If there were, they'd be just locals.

Of course, Song Heping didn't want to encounter any locals.

This placed him before a very difficult choice — to kill or not to kill.

Sotis on the battlefield, one must make so inhumane decisions, just to keep oneself safe.

No one knew for sure whether the people in civilian clothes were indeed civilians.

Showing rcy could well result in death.

When push ca to shove, self-preservation had to be chosen.

However, Song Heping felt that there should be no one in this building.

The reasoning was simple: no one wanted to be neighbors with an Ard Organization unless they were tired of living.

Indeed, everything was as he expected.

The inside of the building was blasted to ruins; an entire wall on the third floor was gone.

What Song Heping needed to be most careful about now wasn't the people inside the building, but rather not stepping on anything that could make a noise.

In a war zone, that too could cost him his life.

It wasn't easy, but he made it to the fourth floor, found the passageway to the rooftop, only to see that the wooden ladder previously here was blown apart.

Fortunately, bare-hand climbing wasn't a challenge for Song Heping.

He positioned the broken half of the ladder against the wall, climbed halfway up, then leaped out like a monkey, tightly grasping the edge of the rooftop exit.

Then, using his arms to pull himself up, he propped himself up on his arms, slithering onto the rooftop like a snake.

Once on the rooftop, Song Heping lay flat on the ground and cautiously observed the surroundings.

The design of the buildings here was very similar to those he had encountered before; all the rooftops had concrete fences about a ter high.

Song Heping crawled carefully to the fence, evaluated the position, and cautiously peeked over the wall to scope out the direction of the target building.

Just as expected!

There were people on the rooftop of the target building.

And there were two of them.

Next to the fence, a Desheka Heavy Machine Gun was prominently mounted.

One man, holding an AKM assault rifle, was continuously patrolling along the fence, overlooking the street below; the Desheka machine gunner was also monitoring from above on the other side.

Song Heping switched off the safety of his MK18 assault rifle and slowly aid the muzzle at the sentry holding the AKM, targeting his head for a burst.

Click-click—

The sound of the falling body wasn't too loud, but the machine gunner nearby sensed the activity behind him and quickly turned to see what had happened.

As he turned around, two bullets t his face and pierced his head.

He slumped over next to the fence.

Both n went to et Allah within two seconds of each other.

Song Heping surveyed the area briefly and then swiftly returned inside the building, descending quickly back to the ground floor.

Mist was surprised to see him: "How did you get down? How so fast?"

Song Heping asked, "Did you hear anything here?"

"I think I heard sothing…" Mist inquired, "Did you shoot?"

Song Heping nodded, "Yes, I killed the people on their rooftop; now we can quickly cross through here."

"What about the people inside the building?" Mist asked.

"What about them?" Song Heping said, "You've been watching the windows for so long, did you see anyone behind them?"

Mist shook his head: "No."

Song Heping said, "That's right, they relied on the rooftop machine gun sentry to control the intersection, I killed the two of them; they won't notice for now, let's cross over while we have the chance."

Having said that, he contacted Mira on the channel.

"Mira, leave the donkey where it is, bring the gear over, we're leaving."

"So soon?!?"

Mira was also startled.

He glanced at the target building, recalling a night not long ago, when his colleague had tried to cross the intersection and had been gunned down into two pieces by a heavy machine gun…

Cold sweat ran down his face.

"Quick! What are you spacing out for?"

Urged by Song Heping, he finally pulled himself out of his past mories.

So, he packed the gear and dashed to the opposite building.

They reached the intersection through the alley behind the building.

"You guys watch, I'll go first."

With that, he sprinted out without a second's hesitation.

Mist and Mira's hearts leaped to their throats.

After Song Heping successfully crossed the intersection, they finally breathed a sigh of relief.

"It's safe, co on over!"

Song Heping called to them from the other side.

"Be quick! I estimate they won't notice the rooftop deaths anyti soon."

It was only then that Mist realized the full extent of Song Heping's plan.

But thinking about it, the plan was brilliant!

Why bother killing everyone in the building?

Just kill the observant sentries.

"FUCK!"

He muttered to himself, "This guy is too smart!"
