Now reading: Chapter 230 - 196: The Greatly Wronged Lonnie2 from Mercenaries, I Will Be King, a Action novel by Yan Qi Guan.

By this point, the US Army had already begun its assault, with the sounds of artillery and gunfire discernible from all directions, and even the occasional shouts of militants calling out to each other from the building below and across the street.

The building they were in now was like a solitary leaf in the tempestuous sea of rage, ready to be engulfed by the waves at any mont of exposure.

This kind of psychological pressure was not insignificant.

After all, this was a stronghold of the ard militants, and no one knew if soone might suddenly burst in.

"Song, I see a lot of militants around us... they might enter here..."

Mira's voice, slightly tense, ca through Song Heping's earpiece.

Dawn had broken.

The militants in the city had beco more active.

The site of last night's explosion was still piled with bodies.

No one was going to clean them up anymore.

They were worried about planes from the Air Force surveilling from above, not to say that rescuing people was out of the question, but they themselves could get caught in it.

All militants were adept at using the buildings in the city; as long as they hid inside, even the planes above would have difficulty detecting them.

Once the US Army entered the ambush circle, they would unleash a swarm of firepower, and by then, since the two sides would already be in close-quarter combat, the Air Force above would be powerless to intervene.

Even the most experienced pilots wouldn't take the risk of dropping bombs on buildings within the combat zone, for fear of accidentally hitting their own troops.

"Don't panic, you guard the entrance passage. If there's trouble, hold them off; Mist and I will co to help you."

"Okay..."

Perhaps too tense, Mira added, "Song, I think I can sll the corpses getting ripe."

The corpses referred to those of the sentries they had killed during the infiltration into the building the previous night.

There were two bodies in the entrance corridor on the first floor, piled in the corner at the bottom of the stairs.

"Mira, don't panic. That's just in your head; the bodies aren't ripening that fast. It's not ti for them to start slling yet. Don't worry about these distractions, just watch the door! Otherwise, if soone breaks in, we're all dead!"

Song Heping couldn't help but use a slightly intimidating tone to calm Mira down.

After all, Mira was just a local informant recruited on the spot.

He hadn't received very professional training, might have a bit of a military background, but wasn't any sort of elite agent; otherwise, the CIA wouldn't have sent them here to die.

It was hardly surprising that he was on the verge of a breakdown under such pressure.

"Lao Mi, don't just listen to the radio; also keep an eye on the ground floor."

Mist put down the radio earpiece he had held next to his ear and said nonchalantly, "Song, don't worry! Do you know how smoothly things are progressing today? Lonnie's troops have already reached Sector G!"

"That fast!?"

Song Heping was taken aback.

It was only nine o'clock. How had they reached Sector G?

It would have been considered good progress to get there by noon before, and sotis they wouldn't make it in an entire day.

"I guess last night's bombing really took out the 'Hunter's' den. I've hardly heard any reports of sniper attacks on the radio; it seems all the snipers in the city are gone," Mist said with excitent on his face, causing Song Heping's eyelids to twitch again, that restless feeling surging once more.

"Lao Mi, my gut tells this isn't so simple..."

He spread out the map and studied it closely.

His finger slid virtually along the main thoroughfares of Sector G a few tis before finally coming to rest on a crossroads.

He checked the mission area division.

This was Sector I.

Just over a kiloter away from their location.

"There's a possibility here..."

He looked up at Mist, "By the way, with which attacking force did Brigadier General Yue Ke join the advance into Mosul today?"

Major Lonnie was right in front, clearing the way, and the division troops would only follow after a clear path was completely established," Mist explained.

"Inform Lonnie to watch out for this intersection in Sector I." He walked over to Mist with the map, pointing at the crossroads, "This place is a good spot for an ambush. It's a pity we can't move now, otherwise I'd really want to go check out the buildings there myself."

Mist frowned as he looked over the map and agreed, "It is a good spot for an ambush."

After speaking, he imdiately relayed the situation to his squad and then called Major Lonnie over the channel.

Major Lonnie's trust in Song Heping had changed profoundly.

If this warning had co two days earlier, he would have scoffed at it.

But now it was different; in his eyes, Song Heping was nothing short of a tactical genius.

"You rest assured, I'll be careful," he promised.

"When my troops get there, I want them to search all the surrounding buildings thoroughly! I want to see if those damned guys really are like rats that can burrow underground!"

Upon ending the call with Mist, Major Lonnie imdiately contacted the Vanguard troops, Sword Camp's Company A.

"Warrior calling Sword, perform a search of the buildings around the crossroads in Sector I. I will order Warrior Camp's Company D to join you for a sweep. Rember, that position is prone to ambush. Before entering the crossroads, I suggest bombarding buildings where ard personnel might be hiding to ensure safety before proceeding with the search."

"Sword understands."

Only one block separated Sectors G and I.

Progress for Warrior Camp was going remarkably well.

The resistance they encountered was very sporadic.

It seed as if the militants had lost their will to fight overnight.
