Five minutes earlier.
On the fifth-floor rooftop of the office building on the east side of the Jade Hotel's parking lot.
From this position, one could see the entrance to the hotel and the parking lot.
When the sounds of gunfire and explosions emanated from the Jade Hotel, a two-person assassination team from DGSE imdiately reported the situation here back to their command center.
Hearing that there were explosions and gunfire in the Jade Hotel, Remondo finally breathed a sigh of relief.
It seed the intelligence was not wrong; Song Heping and that mysterious contact had indeed gone to the Jade Hotel.
Now, the five-person team had arrived at the Jade Hotel even earlier and set up an ambush inside, which ant that Song Heping and the contact were most likely in grave danger.
After all, this assassination gang was ticulously chosen; a black glove that DGSE took notice of was certainly not second-rate.
"It looks like we'll have results soon, you keep watching. Also, keep an eye on the assassins' vehicle and execute the cleanup plan when they get in the car to escape."
Remondo certainly wasn't going to let this operation have any risk of leaks.
Even if suspecting the Aricans were behind this, DGSE could not choose to have a direct confrontation and expose themselves.
After all, with no direct evidence at the mont, blaming the Aricans would only backfire.
Sotis, even as allies, the Gauls don't trust those Aricans.
"Understood, boss."
By the assassination team's side lay an RPG-26 rocket launcher and an SVD sniper rifle— even now, the weapons they used were not French-made, or even related to Europe.
What could be more ideal than pinning the bla on Da Maozi?
And who is more suitable to take the bla than Da Maozi?
No one.
Soon, an agent nad Jimmy excitedly whispered, "Look! Soone seems to have co out!"
Another agent nad Brook quickly looked up.
A dark figure was seen dashing from the side door of the hotel lobby, shooting across the greenbelt like an arrow, sprinting toward the parking lot.
"Is that the assassin?"
"Seems like it..."
Jimmy followed the running figure with his night-vision binoculars.
"There seems to be another person behind..."
Brook wasn't using binoculars and had a much broader field of vision. He saw another figure erge not far behind the fleeing man, apparently in hot pursuit.
"Is that so?"
Jimmy slightly shifted his binoculars, moving his field of vision a bit backward.
When he saw the person behind clearly, he exclaid, "God! That's the target! It's Song Heping!"
Hearing that the target was chasing the assassin, Brook also got startled. He suddenly rembered sothing, grabbed the SVD sniper rifle beside him, and aid at Song Heping with the fastest speed.
However, the brief delay, compounded by the effects of the gunfire and explosions, had already turned the hotel into chaos; the parking lot and all around the greenbelts and shaded paths were full of panicked guests scattering.
In the darkness of night, everything seed so chaotic.
The narrow field of view of the SVD didn't offer a quick opportunity to aim; by the ti Brook had roughly located Song Heping, he saw Song Heping chase into the parking lot.
Vehicles were everywhere in the parking lot, all kinds of cars: sedans, SUVs, minibuses...
"They seem to be behind that minibus! Haven't seen them co out!"
Jimmy with the binoculars provided Brook with a rough location.
Brook aid at the front of the vehicles, waiting for the two to reappear.
He had made up his mind that whoever ca out, he would shoot.
Because whether it was an assassin or Song Heping, both had to die!
But after waiting for a while without seeing Song Heping, Brook quickly picked up the RPG-26 rocket launcher next to him.
This device was both lightweight and compact, perfect for attacking vehicle targets.
"What are you going to do!?"
Jimmy asked in astonishnt.
Brook said, "I guess they're still behind the car. Better to blow them up with a rocket now rather than wait and risk their escape with the vehicles as cover."
His concern was not without reason.
Around the Jade Hotel, there was a large expanse of tall grass, taller than a person.
Between the parking lot and the weeds, there was only a one-ter-high fence.
Brook judged that Song Heping would never dare to take the main entrance; he would definitely choose to cross through the weeds and disappear into the other side of the city.
Therefore, he decided to seize the opportunity and strike first.
After taking a quick aim, Brook pressed the launch button.
Whoosh—
A rocket fired from the launcher, swooshing towards the minibus in the parking lot with its characteristic howl.
Song Heping had a natural alertness to such a sound and was very familiar with it.
Such a noise near the Jade Hotel, there was no question, it was definitely an attack aid at him.
He quickly rolled over, grabbing the assassin on the ground to tumble together beneath a small delivery van parked nearby.
Boom—
Just as he rolled away, the minibus turned into a fireball.
The scorching blast rushed in all directions, and even hiding beneath the vehicle, one could still feel the searing heat.
A piece of tal from the roof of the minibus flew off, crashing heavily onto the van.
Song Heping held the killer at gunpoint as they crawled out from underneath the vehicle.
"Your employer wants to kill you, but if you follow , you might have a slim chance of survival," he said.
The killer was already the most timid one in the group of six, often assigned to keep watch because he hesitated to take action.
But he wasn't stupid, and he realized that even if he killed Song Heping, he would probably end up silenced by his own people.
"Alright, let's run together."
"Do you have a car?"
"Yes, over there, a black Toyota SUV, license plate ER2AP21."
"Look over there!"
Song Heping suddenly looked behind the killer.
Taken aback, the killer instinctively turned his head, exposing the back of his skull to Song Heping.
Song Heping, holding the gun, swung his hand and struck hard on the back of the killer's head.
The killer felt darkness envelop him and collapsed to the ground.
"Buddy, I can't trust you!"
After saying this, Song Heping searched the man for the car keys, then moved to the grass by the parking lot, adopting a duck-walk stance, and squatted motionless.
He knew that if the others intended to silence him, they would surely co to check the scene and would arrive very soon because even the local police, despite their inefficiency, would probably show up in ten more minutes or so.
By that ti, this back-up assassination team would likely have trouble explaining themselves to their bosses.
Song Heping hadn't guessed wrong.
Brook appeared at the edge of the parking lot very soon.
He held a pistol in his hand, searching cautiously as he moved forward.
Approaching the minibus, he first saw a pair of feet.
They belonged to the killer who had passed out on the ground.
Song Heping also saw Brook's shadow, right behind the van.
Brook quickly turned around with his gun, aiming at the killer on the ground.
He realized the man was already lying motionless.
"Huh?"
He quickly pressed the call button, "Jimmy, there's only the killer's body here—the guy has run off."
"He ran off?"
"Yes! I think he has run off."
He looked towards the bushes.
Song Heping squatted in the bushes, as still as a stone.
"Let's go, we need to withdraw."
Seeing Brook and Jimmy communicate, Song Heping breathed a sigh of relief.
His guess was correct; the other party was not alone.
If he had acted rashly and opened fire just now, he could have killed Brook, but the comrade covering him nearby would undoubtedly have shot at him.
Now, thinking he had fled, they were planning to regroup and escape, which was exactly what he was waiting for.
Brook bent over to check the killer's breathing.
Upon checking, his expression changed.
"He's not dead!"
He tried to stand up, but an ominous scent filled his nostrils.
It was already too late.
Two "click" sounds ca from the bushes.
Brook collapsed to the ground.
Song Heping erged from the bushes; he had roughly estimated the position of Brook and his accomplice.
Eventually, his gaze settled on an administrative building not far from the pool.
Estimating the direction from which Brook's accomplice would co, he hid behind a nearby pickup truck, waiting silently.
Two minutes later, Jimmy arrived at the still burning minibus, gasping for breath.
He first saw the killer's feet and then yelled, "Brook!"
No response...
"Brook!"
He called out his partner's na again.
A cold gun barrel suddenly pressed against the back of his head.
"Stop shouting, he's dead."
