Just as he was about to pull the trigger to take a shot at Song Heping's position, he suddenly felt a bump under his neck.
Then, he heard a strange sound, as if sothing had split open.
Crack—
Before he could react, Hunter's SVD sniper rifle had already fired a step ahead. A tongue of fla burst from the muzzle, and the high-precision sniper bullet whirled out of the barrel at high speed. Before the sound of the gunshot reached his ears, the bullet had penetrated just below the enemy sniper's collarbone, tearing through the abdominal cavity, lungs, heart, and internal organs, and burst out near the kidney, carrying with it a stream of blood.
The sniper's body shook violently, like a marionette cut from its strings, and collapsed to the ground.
Both Vanguard and the sniper were taken out, and the advancing troop was hit with a fierce attack.
The leading officer should have realized, even in death, that they had walked into an ambush.
A slightly panicked roar echoed through the mountain path, "Ambush————"
"On the hillside to the right!"
After all, they were battle-hardened ard personnel, and soon soone spotted Song Heping's position.
Along with the roaring ca the crisp sound of squad machine guns firing, two of the machine gunners using tracer rounds to conduct suppressive fire towards Song Heping's group's hiding place, directing the others to their location.
These Civilian Military soldiers were indeed extraordinary, many of them were truly experienced veterans, each move radiating composure and calmness.
"Grey Wolf, stick to the plan, we'll be the targets, you hit them on the flank!"
Song Heping's position was bombarded, dirt splattering everywhere, bullets whizzing past overhead.
He and Disaster Star imdiately moved to a backup position while ordering Grey Wolf and White Bear to quickly relocate.
According to the plan, Song Heping's fire team had to draw the enemy's main force, allowing Grey Wolf and White Bear to attack from behind, take out the convoy, and use the convoy's machine guns to catch the hundred-strong search party in a crossfire from the rear.
At this mont, Song Heping and Disaster Star were being suppressed by dozens of rifles and machine guns. Although their enemies might not have a clear view of them, they understood how to conduct volley fire, using blind firing to suppress their opponents.
While moving to a nearby backup position, so of the Civilian Military soldiers began to rush out from the road to the base of the hill, preparing to encircle Song Heping and his comrade.
Disaster Star hid behind a rock, switched the remote control to the second Directional Bomb's frequency channel, and begrudgingly pressed the detonation switch.
"Die, all of you!"
Boom—
Another muffled explosion rang out.
A Directional Bomb that had been planted early at the base of the hill was detonated.
A spray of orange-red cross-shaped muzzle flas burst out among the grasses, as bullets swept through the soldiers dispersing like ants about to charge up the hill. In an instant, clouds of smoke rose from the ground, dozens of soldiers convulsing like being shocked, as rcilessly hot steel beads rcilessly punched holes through their bodies.
Then ca the ear-splitting explosions, two pre-set Directional Mines were detonated in succession. Lying in wait, the tal storm transford into a terrifying tempest, sweeping across the entire mountain path. People scread, blood spurted violently, as the steel rain left the unfortunate Civilian Military soldiers riddled with holes, turning the mountain path into a grueso spectacle.
The gunfire that had been suppressing Song Heping and his teammate died down, the pressure on them suddenly lessened, and they imdiately resud aiming and started to pick their shots. In the distance, Hunter continued to search for opposing snipers, needing to ensure that no one could threaten him.
At this point, the mountain road was strewn with thirty or forty wounded and dead, their wailing making it seem like a descent into Asura hell.
Wu Tunqin in the rear had a narrow escape.
They were at the very front of the group.
It was this bit of cowardice and caution that saved him.
"Take cover and return fire on the spot! They are few in number! Don't be scared!"
As he said this, Wu Tunqin himself retreated, hiding behind a car.
Under his command, the group once again cald down from their panic.
These Civilian Military soldiers had fought many battles and were not the type to fear death.
After the chaos, they quickly found cover in the roadside ditches, grass, and behind trees. Although they dared not advance further, they effectively began to retaliate, firing towards the direction of Song Heping, their magazines emptying like pouring water, suppressing them once again.
"Hunter, take out their Commander!"
Song Heping had to move again.
There's strength in numbers.
The enemy's nurical superiority was too great.
Dozens of guns firing blindly in their direction ant they couldn't even lift their heads, rendering good marksmanship useless.
He and Disaster Star moved positions again, retreating to the north. While moving, they made sure to rustle the branches, giving away false signs to the enemy.
Sure enough, so of the Civilian Military soldiers imdiately spotted sothing amiss.
"They're running!"
"Don't let them get away! Kill them! Chase!"
Upon hearing this, Wu Tunqin viciously issued his command.
There were only about fifty people left in his search party who were still capable of pursuit, a nearly fifty percent loss in manpower.
The soldiers leapt out of the roadside bushes one after another, chasing in the direction Song Heping had retreated.
Grey Wolf and his team had already moved to the left side of the mountain, hiding in the thickets barely able to contain themselves.
They were now less than a hundred ters away from the vehicles at the fork in the road, just waiting for Song Heping's order to cut off the enemy's retreat and strike from behind.
"Grey Wolf, cut off their retreat!"
Finally, both heard Song Heping's voice over the radio channel.
Song Heping had already moved to a new position and, together with Disaster Star, imdiately took cover behind a tree to shoot at the dozen or so pursuers.
Crack-crack-crack—
Ratatat—
The two leading civilian soldiers pursuing them fell, and the rest hurried to take cover behind trees. The exchange of fire ensued, neither side able to gain the upper hand.
From a distance, Wu Tunqin watched as a dozen of his n followed Song Heping, stopping and firing, quickly losing three more lives.
He suddenly realized sothing was off; it was clear that the enemy was deliberately luring them into pursuit, there must be a trap!
"Stop chasing, co back! We've called for reinforcents. Stop chasing, you're being lured in!"
Although he didn't know what trick Song Heping was playing.
He slled trouble.
But it was all too late.
Suddenly, gunfire erupted from the left side of the fork in the road.
Wu Tunqin turned his head, only to see several soldiers by the vehicles left side getting swept to the ground by indiscriminate gunfire. Thirty ters away, a general-purpose machine gun spat out flas as bullets poured out like rain.
"Damn it!"
He hugged his head and rolled under cover behind a tire.
The wheel was a safe place, a lifesaver!
"Everyone, fall back! We've got enemy forces cutting off our retreat on the left mountain path! Get back here!"
While saying this, he fired back with his rifle.
But after only firing two shots, he imdiately drew the focused attention of the machine gun. Bullets smacked into the tire, causing it to deflate with a hissing noise, and the wheel hub sparked with a crackling sound, frightening him into quickly retracting and not daring to stick his head out again.
anwhile, the civilian soldiers chasing Song Heping and hiding by the road heard Wu Tunqin's command and had to turn back to defend.
But no sooner had they turned to retreat than Song Heping switched from defense to offense, imdiately closing in and firing a barrage at their backs from behind.
As a result, of the dozen or so n who had pursued them, only seven made it back.
Now, Wu Tunqin and his subordinates were in what could only be described as a deathtrap.
The left side was under attack from Grey Wolf and White Bear, while Song Heping and Disaster Star were in hot pursuit from the front.
So were scattered along both sides of the mountain path, while others were at the fork in the road, strung out in a long snake formation, vulnerable both at the head and the tail, ultimately unable to defend both ends.
With four n comprising two assault teams, and a sniper under Song Heping's tactical command, they had essentially reduced an entire platoon of n by more than half. Now only about thirty were still able to fight.
And all this had taken less than twenty minutes.
At this point in the battle, Hunter had also ascertained that there were no enemy snipers nearby.
He began to carry out precision strikes on Wu Tunqin's location.
Unlike Song Heping and his team, Hunter had the ti to aim precisely, shooting whoever popped their head out.
Soon, two more n on Wu Tunqin's side were down.
The Captain was scared out of his wits.
He looked around, trying to locate the Arican team.
The Aricans had urged them to search ahead, promising to provide support.
But now, where was the support?! Where had those Aricans gone?!
Just when Wu Tunqin was in despair and Song Heping thought he had this ard group in the bag, a sudden call from White Bear ca through the earphones—
"Boss! Grey Wolf's been shot! Grey Wolf's been shot! There's a sniper!"
