"Sothing's gone wrong."
Song Heping noticed the soldiers on both sides of the gate wall retreating in disarray, realizing that trouble was imminent.
Sure enough, just as the assault team mbers who had been shooting into the gate from the outside started to pull back less than ten ters away, a violent explosion erupted at the gate.
Boom—
A giant fireball rose more than ten ters high. Song Heping, even from a distance of over two hundred ters, could still feel the blast wave generated by the explosion.
The treetops rattled as if a fierce wind was blowing through them.
The two already shaky iron gates flew up into the air, landing seven or eight ters away, directly crushing several trees as thick as bowls.
The armored vehicle that had been ramming the gate was lifted rearward by the shockwave, then smashed down heavily onto the ground.
Another VRC TT armored vehicle, being more than ten ters away from the gate, didn't suffer much damage, but its commander was so frightened that he was screaming, ordering the vehicle to retreat imdiately.
The scene turned chaotic in an instant, with thick smoke obscuring the view at the gate; it was impossible to see what was happening.
"What in the world has such power!?"
Even Wilson's face changed.
"Without a truckload of explosives, it would be difficult to create such devastation."
Song Heping was no stranger to such explosives; he had often encountered them in Illiguo.
What did it matter whether it was an armored or unarmored vehicle?
The yield is justice.
As long as the explosion is powerful enough, as long as there's enough explosives, not to ntion these outdated armored vehicles, even the U.S. Army's most advanced Abrams tanks could be flipped.
"Albert, what's the situation at the gate?!"
Wilson imdiately called out to the assault team mbers in front through the channel.
However, there was no response for a long ti.
Although the assault team had retreated before the explosion, they had not gone far, and it was certain so were injured under such a violent blast.
Sure enough, after a while, calls for dics could be heard throughout the channel.
It seed that quite a few people were wounded.
Albert finally made his report.
"These drug traffickers are insane! They just drove a pickup loaded with explosives straight at the gate—there must be a lot of weapons and ammunition hidden inside this estate!"
Wilson asked, "Are our people okay?"
"Two were knocked out by the blast. They need to be taken out for checks; I'm worried about internal bleeding! One xican is dead, and three are injured!"
"How's the DEA's situation?"
"Not too good either; I saw them with injured as well."
Amidst the confusion, a shrill siren sounded from inside the gate.
Song Heping was jolted at the sound.
"RPG!"
As expected, two RPGs burst out of the smoke, flying straight towards the gate's direction.
Through the smoke, the rocket launcher operators didn't have much accuracy, just firing two rockets generally in this direction.
But that was enough.
The VRC TT armored vehicle that had already been overturned took a direct hit on its front.
The shaped charge warhead hit the armor plate, sparking a huge fire. The VRC TT's old ballistic panels couldn't stand up to the rocket's attack, the warhead easily penetrated the pitifully thin tal and drilled right into the cabin.
Boom—
Explosion, fire, thick smoke.
Then ca a blaze.
The poor xican Marines hiding in the armor had just been dazed by the blast and were about to leave the vehicle to escape when they were sent straight to et their Maker.
The xican Marines' commander was there, furious and cursing, telling his n to quickly pull back.
Seeing this situation, Song Heping could understand why xico's drug enforcent efforts seed futile.
Although modern warfare relied on high technology, the xican military had no such technology, and their equipnt was even inferior to that of the drug traffickers.
Tonight's operation, with the apparent advantage in troop numbers, two battalions plus two elite Arican assault teams, got pushed back by a group of drug traffickers hiding in an estate.
He felt it was embarrassing.
"Wilson, at this rate, the cost is too high," Song Heping said. "Ti waits for no one. If we fuss around for half a day and still can't break in, the drug lords will have run away. FUCK! You might as well let our company take over this assault operation. Believe it or not, I can pull a rcenary battalion from Illiguo and just wipe these guys out?"
Wilson, the overall commander for tonight, was being called out by Song Heping.
He was displeased.
Having plenty of actual combat experience, it's embarrassing to be lectured by such a green young man.
So with a displeased face, he said: "If you're so capable, you do it!"
It was ant to be a retort, but Song Heping wasn't joking with him.
"If I say I'll do it, then I'll do it. Announce imdiately that I'm taking over the operation command. Damn it, let show you how I fight a war!"
Song Heping's words imdiately made Wilson feel awkward.
Give him the command?
Of course not.
"What are you still standing there for?" Song Heping wasn't courteous with him; he guessed that by now the drug traffickers were probably all in the tunnels, leaving a bunch of their n outside just to desperately stall for ti.
"Don't we have any good armored vehicles or heavy mortars or the like? Drag all of them over here, and bombard them fiercely. A ten-minute covering barrage, who the hell can't you deal with?!"
Wilson was quite unhappy at first, but Song Heping's words made him realize the importance.
Right.
Artillery!
How could the assault go on without artillery?!
"Colonel! Colonel!"
He jogged over and grabbed the Commander of the xican Marines.
"Do you have artillery!?"
The Commander was taken aback at first, then nodded: "Yes, but it's only mortars."
"Bring them all over, and bombard them hard! From the main entrance to inside the manor, conduct an extended shoot. Blast them to death!"
Wilson flew into a rage.
He was responsible for today's operation; if the casualties were too high, it would be difficult to explain when he got back.
Moreover, the drug lord inside was probably starting to escape through the tunnels. If they didn't assault quickly, the whole operation could fail.
"Field, Moussel, hurry up and bring all the mortars over! Quick! Set them up on the hillside, aiming at the main gate. Fire a salvo, then start extending the fire. Cover that villa!"
"Yes, sir!"
The xican Marines imdiately sprang into action.
They quickly brought over 12 81mm mortars. The firepower couldn't be described as fierce, but it was definitely enough.
But just when the mortars here were set up, Song Heping heard a strange whistling sound from the sky.
"Mortar shells?"
At first, he was stunned, then suddenly he lay down on the ground, crawling under an armored vehicle.
"Wilson, it's a bombardnt!"
Wilson's reaction was also quick.
As Song Heping lay down, he followed suit on the ground.
When Song Heping called out to him, he rolled and crawled under the vehicle as well.
In front of a shell, it didn't matter if you were a Watcher or what - everyone was equal.
Boom—
The first shell exploded in the woods.
More than fifty ters from Song Heping.
Boom—
Boom—
Boom—
Then the second and third mortar shells fell.
Explosions ca from all directions.
One of the mortar shells landed about twenty ters away from Song Heping.
After the explosion, shrapnel hit the armored vehicle, rattling noisily.
The sll of gunpowder entered Song Heping's nostrils.
"They have mortars too!?" Song Heping was extrely surprised.
The equipnt of these drug traffickers was really quite comparable to a regular army.
No wonder they were so arrogant.
"Colonel! Why haven't you started firing!"
There was no response.
"Sothing's happened," Song Heping exclaid in shock: "The Colonel wasn't killed by the blast, was he!?"
