1174: Chapter One Thousand One Hundred Fifty-Seven: Deception 1174: Chapter One Thousand One Hundred Fifty-Seven: Deception “Yelena!”
Natalia turned her head and yelled into the house, then turned back and embraced Glolov tightly at the door.
Glolov, with one hand carrying a bag, wrapped his other arm around Natalia, and then he let go of the bag with his right hand and hugged Natalia with both arms.
Yelena ca out of her room, holding a violin in her left hand and a bow in her right.
Upon seeing Glolov at the door, Yelena opened her mouth wide in surprise, her face a picture of shock, as the bow fell to the ground from her hand.
After the bow fell to the ground, Yelena seed stunned, taking two slow steps forward.
The violin in her left hand slowly descended until it too dropped to the floor.
“Dad.”
Yelena called out feebly.
Finally, Glolov and Natalia stepped aside from the blocked door, allowing Gao Yang to erge from behind it.
Upon seeing Gao Yang appear from behind Glolov, Yelena covered her mouth with her hands, let out a cry, and then tears stread down her face as she imdiately ran toward Gao Yang.
Gao Yang put down the bag, steadied himself to avoid being knocked off balance by Yelena, and then embraced her.
Yelena clung tightly to Gao Yang and wouldn’t let go.
Feeling a wet patch on his shoulder, Gao Yang, heartbroken and guilt-ridden, said, “Why are you crying?”
“Sorry, I didn’t see you, I thought sothing had happened to you.”
After chokingly finishing her sentence, Yelena continued, “I had a nightmare.
I dread you died.
Just now I didn’t see you, dear…”
Glolov and Natalia separated and looked at Yelena, who was still sobbing, with Natalia saying in a deeply saddened tone, “Yelena.”
Yelena let go of Gao Yang and then threw herself into Glolov’s arms, burying her head into his shoulder, sobbing, “Sorry, Dad.”
Glolov gently patted Yelena’s back, whispering, “It’s alright, darling, it’s alright, don’t worry about us, we’re fine.”
Yelena hadn’t seen Gao Yang and subconsciously thought sothing had happened to him, though Gao Yang was right behind Glolov.
Yelena was just overwrought and involuntarily going into flights of fancy, leading to her slight overreaction.
Gao Yang brought the two bags that were left at the door inside, then closed the door behind him.
Yelena released Glolov, her pretty face tear-streaked, ran to where her violin had fallen, picked it up to check on it, then hurried back into her room, and soon after, she ran to the bathroom.
Natalia’s eyes were also a bit red.
She took the bags from Gao Yang’s hands, put them aside, and pulling Gao Yang’s hand, said loudly, “Sit down quickly, she’s fine.
Have you eaten yet?”
Glolov sat down on the sofa, his face filled with deep affection as he said, “No, don’t worry about Gao, wife, make so food.”
Natalia nodded repeatedly, addressing both Glolov and Gao Yang loudly, “What do you want to eat?
We have everything at ho; I’ll make it for you right now.”
Glolov waved his hand, laughing, “Anything will do, anything.
I’m so hungry I could flatline.”
Yelena erged from the bathroom, her eyes still red.
She walked past Gao Yang, seated herself between Gao Yang and Glolov, and hugged Glolov once more, her voice heavy, “Dad, you’ve finally co back.”
Glolov’s expression turned complex, gently patting Yelena’s head, and whispered, “It’s fine, you don’t have to worry about us, we’re back and well now, go on, darling, go have a al with Gao, he’s been craving Chinese food so badly.”
After finishing, Glolov waved toward Gao Yang, “Go ahead, go have your al.”
Gao Yang felt quite ambivalent; with him there, Glolov couldn’t enjoy the happiness of a family reunion, but then he thought, it seed like Glolov might also need so private ti.
Yelena appeared reluctant.
At that mont, Natalia gently said to Yelena, “Dear, go.”
Yelena stood up sowhat shyly, and then Natalia smiled and asked, “Are you driving yourself out?”
Gao Yang thought for a mont and gestured, “It would be more convenient to drive, let’s drive out.”
Natalia, beaming, said, “Take your own car out.
I’ve covered it with a car cover, so there’s not much dust, but you’ll have to remove the cover yourself, Yelena, go get the keys for Gao.”
Yelena returned to her room with a hint of shyness, then took out Gao Yang’s car keys.
Gao Yang took the keys, and as he and Yelena were about to leave, Glolov said in a complex tone, “See you tomorrow, don’t forget to co back for lunch.”
Gao Yang waved a fist at Glolov and took Yelena’s hand as they walked out the door.
See you tomorrow – that ant they didn’t have to return ho tonight.
It had always been Natalia who took the lead, but this ti, Glolov finally spoke up himself.
Once they were out of the house, Yelena clung to Gao Yang until they entered the underground garage.
She had to let go of him montarily to fold up the car cover.
Yelena was very reliant on Gao Yang, but oddly enough, she didn’t talk much.
Once in the car and out of the garage, Yelena still only looked at Gao Yang without speaking.
Gao Yang couldn’t help but laugh and asked, “What’s up, baby?
Don’t you have anything to say to ?”
“I missed you a lot.”
After blurting out those words, Yelena bit her lip while looking at Gao Yang’s face.
After a mont, she cautiously asked, “Was it dangerous for you in Syria?”
Gao Yang laughed, “Of course it wasn’t dangerous.
We’ve been in touch by phone, have you forgotten?
The place I was in was very safe, how could there be any danger?”
Yelena bit her lip and said, “I know you’re lying to .
The sound of shells exploding isn’t the sa as the sound of firing them.
I can tell the difference.”
Gao Yang was at a loss for words, and after Yelena spoke, she showed a face full of regret and said, “Sorry, Gao, I’m a bit too anxious.
I know it would be better to pretend I don’t know anything.
Sorry, I couldn’t control myself.”
Gao Yang smiled helplessly and replied, “Well, it’s okay for a girl to be smart, you’re already very clever.”
Yelena sighed softly, saying, “I had a dream last night.
I dread that you were…
well, then you didn’t call today, so I’ve been worrying, fretting over it.
Sorry, Gao, am I making things difficult for you?”
Gao Yang laughed and waved off her concern, “Not at all, not at all.
The place I was really did have a bit of danger, it’s a warzone, how could there not be any risk, right?
But it’s really nothing serious.
You shouldn’t worry too much.
Besides, we’ve already decided not to take on any more dangerous missions in the future.”
Yelena’s face lit up with surprise, or more accurately, wild joy, as she looked at Gao Yang in disbelief and asked, “Are you retiring?”
Gao Yang replied with a smile, “Oh, not retiring.
We’re just changing how we operate.
We won’t be directly involved in combat in the future.”
Yelena seed a bit disappointed, but she still smiled in relief and said, “You’re not lying to this ti, right?”
“No way, how could I lie to you?
It definitely won’t be that dangerous in the future, really.”
Gao Yang sounded very sincere, but as to the content of what he was saying, even Gao Yang himself did not believe it.
If nothing unexpected happened, Satan was about to head to Ukraine soon.
What kind of place is Ukraine?
It’s a state that was part of the Forr Soviet Union and a heavy industry hub there.
That place was full of heavy weapons and people who knew how to use them.
In Syria, at least they didn’t have to worry about heavy weapon attacks, but in Ukraine, maybe just a stray shell flying over could wipe out Satan and all of its mbers.
Besides, even if Satan was in Ukraine for business rather than combat, the danger level would only be higher than Syria, not lower.
Apart from consoling Yelena with a few words, Gao Yang was certainly not going to say anything more to her, and he had many ways to change the subject.
“Darling, when can you take leave?
Once you do, let’s go to Europe for a trip.
Which country do you want to visit?
Let’s go enjoy ourselves without a care.
Tell now, do you have any plans?”
Gao Yang’s way of changing the subject was sowhat abrupt, but Yelena still managed a strained smile and responded to him.
“I’ll ask for leave tomorrow.
I should be able to get it.
Hmm, can we start with a Broadway opera?”
Yelena had long wanted to see an opera and had never gone.
The last ti she even bought tickets but ultimately couldn’t make it.
Although Gao Yang had no interest in opera, he readily agreed, “Sure, no problem.
I’ll get the tickets.
What do you want to see?
And after the opera?”
Yelena smiled and said, “Anything is fine as long as I’m with you.
You decide.”
Gao Yang said excitedly, “Okay, we’ll see an opera and then visit Los Angeles and Portland, spending a few days in Arica first.
Then we’ll head to Italy, visit museums, see the Colosseum, continue to Austria, attend a concert in Vienna, spend so ti in Germany.
After that, we’ll go to the United Kingdom, watch for the Loch Ness Monster in Scotland, see Riverdance, does that sound good?”
Yelena nodded with a smile, “Yeah, that sounds great.”
Gao Yang continued, “Or if there’s anywhere else you want to visit, just tell , and we’ll go.”
After thinking for a mont, Yelena said with a smile, “I’d like to go sowhere with sunshine and beaches.
After Europe, can we spend so ti by the sea?”
Russians seem to have an irresistible attraction to sunshine and beaches.
Glolov is like this, and so is Yelena.
But where they go doesn’t really matter; what’s important is to be happy.
Gao Yang imdiately replied with a smile, “Sure, just try to apply for a longer leave, okay?” (To be continued.
