Chapter 1307: Chapter One Thousand Two Hundred Ninety: End of Call

With Cui Bo and Glolov providing cover from the elevated firepower points, Rafael and Number Thirteen’s group were still able to defend themselves with relative ease. However, for Number Thirteen’s group to carry Gao Yang and charge out of the building, it was utterly unthinkable.

With inside support and the cover provided by Cui Bo and Glolov, Rafael and Albert managed to rush into the building. Even so, Rafael still took two bullets along the way. Now, if they want to rush out, the only accessible exit is a single door. Outside, even if there aren’t dozens of rifles aid at them, there are surely dozens of handguns ready to fire.

And what’s worse is that, apart from Karima, everyone else is injured and barely mobile. On top of that, they have to carry Gao Yang, who is completely incapacitated. Rushing out now looks no different from a suicide mission.

The dilemma is clear: charging out would end with them riddled like a honeycomb, while staying put ans they’d end up as charcoal.

A fire assault, a simplistic, ancient tactic that has been around for millennia—no matter the ti it’s used, it’s always effective. Deadly, undeniably effective.

Krulney was shouting that they should charge out, but before anyone could refute his idea, he suddenly lowered his voice and asked urgently, “What material is this building made of?”

Karima replied, her face a mask of despair, “The walls are made of stone.”

Krulney let out a breath of relief and muttered, “Good, good, we’ve still got so ti.”

“But the roof’s made of wood, and so are the floorboards on the second level…”

Krulney’s eye twitched several tis before he grimaced and said, “Well, that’s just great.”

“Charge out! We’re making a break for it now!”

Albert roared right after and grabbed Number Thirteen, hauling him up. He grimaced and said, “Well, forget about that surgery of yours.”

Rafael shouted urgently, “Quick, grab so water and soak so blankets or sothing! Wrap the Boss up to get him ready for evacuation!”

Rafael ignored the searing pain in his rear and stood upright. He hurried to the large floor-to-ceiling windows and took in the breathtaking yet hopeless view of the high cliff below. He muttered bitterly, “People who live in a place like this must have sothing wrong with their heads.”

After that, Rafael grabbed his walkie-talkie and yelled, “We’re about to get roasted alive! If you can’t co up with a solution, the Boss is gonna end up as a barbecued Ram!”

Glolov barked urgently, “We’re charging down right now, but they’re throwing Molotovs onto the roof! Do you have any way to get out?”

Rafael glanced outside and let out a breath. In a somber tone, he said, “Big Dog, if we end up dead, there’s nothing we can do about it. But listen up—there are 150 million dollars in cash here. We’ll toss it out the window to the bottom of the cliff. Figure out how to recover it and start our company. Maybe we’ll have to jump after all. If you can piece our bodies back together… well, damn it, maybe burning to death is better after all.”

Saying so, Rafael aid his gun at the massive glass window and fired. When his shot ricocheted into a re white speck on the glass pane, he stared blankly at the aftermath and groaned, “Bulletproof glass?”

Karima sobbed, her words trembling, “Yes, it’s bulletproof. Every single one. All the glass is bulletproof.”

Rafael rushed up to the window and began pounding on the glass in fury, roaring, “Damned rich bastards!”

Outside the door, curses of despair and anger continued. But now, they were accompanied by gleeful cries of vengeance fulfilled. Inside, the temperature was rapidly rising, and smoke was seeping through the door’s cracks.

With large amounts of flammable material, the wooden roof was blazing fast.

Albert stared helplessly at Karima and asked, “Where’d they get so much gasoline?”

Karima replied blankly, “From the generators.”

anwhile, Rafael had dialed a number. As soon as soone picked up, he shouted, “Where are you? We’re about to burn to ashes!”

Li Jinfang answered the call, as Andy He’s phone line was busy.

Through the phone’s background noise, the roaring of helicopter blades could be heard. Li Jinfang yelled frantically, “Hold on! We’re coming in five minutes! Five minutes!”

Number Thirteen, his expression calm, said, “We’ve still got so ti. Instead of wailing, let’s prepare for escape—find so cloth, soak it with water to prevent smoke inhalation, build a stretcher for the Ram, and get ready to move. Hurry.”

Rafael snapped out of his stupor and shouted, “Get moving!”

Everyone scattered, starting to look for supplies. There was plenty of water inside—expensive bottled mineral water, tea in jugs, water from the dispenser—all readily usable.

Karima rushed to a ground-floor bedroom and grabbed two blankets. She soaked them as best as she could, then placed Gao Yang on one and covered him with another before dousing the top layer with water.

Before they could finish, only part of the blanket had been soaked when a loud noise erupted from upstairs. A dense wave of smoke suddenly pressed downwards, flooding the previously tolerable room with thick, rolling fus.

“The roof’s collapsed! The second-floor wooden floorboards will soon give way as well!”

Krulney pointed at the already burning wooden door, coughing heavily as he shouted, “Open the door!”

Number Thirteen protested urgently, “No! That’ll let the flas rush in instantly! We can’t open it! At this point, we can only wait for rescue—there’s no other choice!”

Krulney bellowed, “But the situation now is that if we wait for the roof to burn through, we’ll suffocate to death before that! Don’t forget—carbon dioxide is heavier than air! We’re going to asphyxiate soon!”

Rafael gritted his teeth and responded, “We’ll still have to wait. Opening the door ans dying quicker. We’ll stick to rescue—no other options!”

Number Thirteen suddenly turned towards Karima and said gently, “Wrap yourself in a blanket. Then let’s all huddle together. It’ll make it easier for potential rescuers to find us.”

Karima covered her nose and mouth with a towel. She glanced at Number Thirteen, nodded, and went back to the bedroom to fetch another blanket before dousing it with water.

Albert dragged the blanket-covered Gao Yang closer to the door, while the group surrounded his position.

Number Thirteen took the blanket, draped it over Karima, and began pouring water over her as well. anwhile, he spoke softly with a sorrowful air, “I’ve spent so many years searching for you, so many years. And now, we’ve finally t… yet we’re about to die together. What a sha.”

Karima smiled faintly and replied, “It doesn’t matter. My life’s dream has already been fulfilled. I can die without regret.”

Number Thirteen asked gently, “What’s your dream?”

“To kill Suharitan. He’s dead now.”

Number Thirteen smiled faintly and said, “Good. That’s very good. Dying without regrets is a thousand tis better than dying full of regrets. Besides, I too can die without regrets now. I’ve achieved my life’s goal as well.”

“What’s your goal?”

“To find you.”

“Congratulations—you’ve certainly achieved your goal.”

After a fit of violent coughing, Number Thirteen opened another bottle of water and doused Karima’s head once more. He spoke quietly, “What’s my na? I’ve forgotten my na—it’s important for to figure it out.”

Karima held two bottles of water. As she poured water over Number Thirteen’s head, she said softly, “Your na is Offred. I’ve told you—why did you forget your own na?”

“My full na… hmm, when I was a child, I was controlled and forced to beg for a long ti. Those people were experts at brainwashing.”

“Your na is Offred Krauts. Our father’s na is Otto Krauts and our mother’s na is Martina Krauts Koch. As for , I used to be called Ankrena Krauts. Later, I changed my na to Karima Enjem—that na ca from my stepfather.”

Karima was coughing terribly by now, but she pressed on to finish her sentence. anwhile, both Rafael and Albert had used up all the water they’d been pouring over Gao Yang. In response, Karima handed over the remaining bottle and soaked Gao Yang once again.

Number Thirteen smiled faintly and asked, “Why are you treating him so well? That move of yours—he taught you, didn’t he?”

Karima coughed and chuckled. “Yes, he taught . Hmm, what’s his na?”

Number Thirteen raised his brows and asked in disbelief, “You don’t even know his na? Yet you rushed out to save him? And he took a bullet for you? He could’ve taken one less bullet, you know. Your relationship is absurdly twisted. Uh, do you want to know his real na or his nickna…”

At this mont, Gao Yang opened his eyes, coughed weakly a couple of tis, and rasped, “What the hell happened? Am I in Hell?”

Albert grumbled, “You’re not dead yet, but we’re getting there. Boss, you’re about to turn into a barbecued Ram real soon.”

Gao Yang rolled his eyes as he took stock of the situation. He groaned, “Damn it, they’re really setting the place on fire. Quick, hand the walkie-talkie—I need to leave so final words.”

Rafael placed the headset near Gao Yang’s ear. On the other end of the line, Cui Bo and Glolov were alternately shouting.

“Hold on—we’re coming soon!”

“Brother Yang, we’re almost there! Don’t you dare give up now!”

What use could Cui Bo and Glolov be when it’s just the two of them? They wouldn’t be able to break the barricade outside or put out the fire. Gao Yang would rather burn to death to prevent them from throwing their lives away for sothing futile.

Through the headset, Gao Yang rasped weakly, “Big Dog, listen to . Keep an eye on Yelena for ; make sure she’s safe until she finds a decent guy to marry. Otherwise, she might actually end up dead. Rabbit, get this—you’ve got to stay alive. My parents are in your hands. Treat them as best as you can. You rember my bank account and password, right? Handle the money however you think is best; there’s nothing else. That’s all. Oh, oh—one last thing. After I’m gone, Blade of Satan is yours. The handgun goes to Jinfang. No, better give it to Yelena. As for my other collectibles, divide them up amongst yourselves, but keep them safe. If anything gets broken or lost, I’ll haunt you from beyond. As for Jinfang, Eileen, Frey, or Morgan… forget it. I don’t have enough ti. There’s really nothing left to say. This is it. You two handle my stuff. Don’t lose your lives over this. Goodbye.”

Ignoring Cui Bo and Glolov’s frantic shouts through the headset, Gao Yang glanced sideways at Rafael and said grimly, “So? None of you want to leave so final words?”

Rafael coughed heavily, shook his head, and replied, “Nothing to say; I wouldn’t know what to say even if I did.”

Albert yelled urgently, “I—I do have final words. Rabbit, help tell my ex-wives this. Just say I’ve finally died, so they can be happy about it. My money with the agent—help divide it up and distribute as much as possible, whether it’s girlfriends or ex-wives. However much they get is up to you. Please, do this favor. Thanks!” (!
