Gao Yang licked his lips and then smiled bitterly, “I really didn’t expect you to tell all this. Now I’m even more curious why you beca a holess person. Did you disguise yourself as a holess person to execute your plan?”
Jesse shook his head and looked at Gao Yang with a face full of sorrow, saying softly, “No, I just decided to do this recently, just a few days ago, and I have already been holess for two years.”
Sighing, Jesse said with a serious face, “I retired four years ago. After retiring, I returned to Louisiana, Baton Rouge. My father had passed away, and my mother’s health was very poor. Gao Yang spread his hands and said softly, “I’m very sorry, my friend.”
Jesse smiled and then continued softly, “My mother left a house in Baton Rouge. She never told there were back taxes owed on the property. We both overlooked this issue. After my mother passed away and I lost my job, it wasn’t long before the official governnt took my house. I went to the Veterans Association, and they helped pay off the property taxes, fight a lawsuit, and save the house from being auctioned off by the official governnt. So I sold the house and used the money to pay off credit card debt and debts to friends. After that, I started wandering.”
Gao Yang sighed, and Jesse, with a cold look, said, “I first wandered to San Francisco, where people are quite friendly to wanderers, and the climate is nice too, at least it’s not as cold there in winter as it is here. But I just wanted to go around, so I left San Francisco, hitchhiking or walking all the way to New York.”
Gao Yang said softly, “How old are you?”
“39 years old.”
“Don’t you have a wife and children? Haven’t you been married?”
“No, I’ve never been married.”
After saying that, Jesse gritted his teeth and said solemnly, “I served in the military for fourteen years, got injured twice, didn’t marry, and had no family. I gave everything to Arica, but what did they give ? They were going to forcibly take my house for eight hundred and sixty bucks when I couldn’t even pull out one dollar when I had no choice but to commit a cri or sleep on the streets, yet no one was willing to help find a job!”
After exhaling, Jesse shook his head and said to Gao Yang, “I’m highly educated. I operated equipnt worth several million dollars in the army, but the best job they could offer was a night shift security guard at six dollars an hour! Four days a week. F**k, I chose to be a holess wanderer!”
Sighing, Jesse pointed to the people coming and going on the street and said softly, “Look at this place, it’s full of rich people. Even those punks selling caffeine are quite wealthy, while I can only be a wanderer!”
At this point, Jesse shook his head at Gao Yang and then smiled, “I don’t owe everyone in this country, but Arica owes . I’ve always thought that if I wanted, I could beco a rich person. If I wanted to commit a cri, then I could definitely make a fortune, but I never took that step. I just wanted to be a peaceful, clean, well-mannered wanderer. But people change, the longer I wander the more disappointed I beco. A month ago, when I was sick and miserable, knowing I could only beg others to buy dicine, I changed my mind. I’m going to commit a cri!”
At this point, Jesse said apologetically, “I hope what I said doesn’t make you uncomfortable. I want you to know that you didn’t create a criminal, whether you help or not. I will act anyway. Your presence just makes my actions more reliable. Also, I won’t target ordinary people. I will only target criminals, real criminals. I’ll be like the Punisher, and I hope knowing this makes you feel a bit better.”
Gao Yang nodded and said softly, “Yes, I feel a lot better.”
Jesse smiled, like an old friend, and after patting Gao Yang on the arm, he laughed, “Give a phone number. I will pay you back if I actually succeed. I expect to get at least ten thousand US dollars in cash, by then I’ll pay you three thousand.”
Gao Yang stared intently at Jesse, and Jesse also smiled back at him.
Gao Yang was contemplating whether to give Jesse a job.
After thinking for a long ti, Gao Yang nodded and said softly, “Alright, rember my phone number.”
Jesse silently recited Gao Yang’s new phone number twice, then smiled, “Got it, don’t worry, even if I fail, no matter what kind of failure, I definitely won’t cause you any trouble. Friend best friend, enemy best enemy, Marine Corps motto.”
Gao Yang laughed, and just then his phone rang. He answered Jack’s call and heard Jack say, “Buddy, where are you? We’ve arrived and are in a taxi.”
“Hold on.”
Gao Yang hung up the phone and reached out his hand, smiling at Jesse, “I have to go now, so, good luck to you.”
Jesse shook Gao Yang’s hand and smiled, “I do need luck, and good luck to you too, goodbye.”
Gao Yang laughed heartily and exclaid, “I sure do need so luck lately, goodbye, buddy.”
After saying that, Gao Yang raised his phone again and walked away, talking with Jack.
