Chapter 1816: Chapter 1795: Backing
Prior to becoming president, Poloneshenko was a businessman, and a very successful one.
Gao Yang likes dealing with businessn because they are generally pragmatic. Most prioritize interests above all and do not stubbornly adhere to principles when making decisions; they are unlikely to make reckless choices that destroy everything.
Gao Yang hung up the phone and, with a serious look, said to Yarebin, “Poloneshenko said he’d release them imdiately. Do you think there have been any issues with the execution of this matter so far?”
Yarebin pondered for a mont and shook his head, “It’s hard to say. We cannot verify Poloneshenko’s words, and we must remain highly vigilant about this person. We can only wait and see the result now. If the people from the White Shark Gang are released quickly, then the situation is better. But if Poloneshenko readily agreed verbally, then things could get complicated.”
After speaking, Yarebin’s face changed; he smiled at Gao Yang and said, “I thought when you called Poloneshenko, you’d be very polite, maybe even plead with him to release them in a humble tone. Yet you seem accustod to speaking elegantly and subtly suggesting you intend to take more drastic asures. I didn’t expect you to be so firm this ti, whether it’s with Arseny or Poloneshenko. You threatened them directly and strongly. Why?”
Gao Yang shrugged and replied, “It’s simple: people like them cannot be treated too kindly. Instead of hinting at aggressive asures, it’s better to directly tell them that disobedience ans death. Are Arseny and Poloneshenko the type to die for principles? They’re reveling in having just reached the pinnacle of their lives — why would they want to die? Like I said, Arica can give them everything, but all I need is the ability to take their lives.”
Yarebin nodded and smiled, “Yes, you’ve grasped the key point.”
Gao Yang sighed, “Such people are actually the easiest to deal with. If they would sell out their country for their interests, surely they would also sell out the new masters they’ve just pledged allegiance to, to save their lives. Moreover, what I’m asking isn’t much; I’m not asking them to stand against Arica by my side. I simply want them to occasionally give so intelligence, binding their lives to mine. I can’t think of any reason they’d refuse. Since refusal isn’t possible and I must clearly threaten their lives, why hold back? Politely threatening them is far less effective than a firm warning.”
Yarebin clapped his hands with a face of approval, nodding as he said, “That’s right, precisely. You’ve learned very quickly.”
Gao Yang smiled and bowed deeply, “Thank you for the complint and also for your guidance, my teacher.”
Yarebin laughed, “I didn’t say anything this ti. This is your own decision, the approach you chose.”
Gao Yang spread his hands with a smile, “How should I say it? After learning from you for a few days, my vision is clearer than ever. Previously, I might have hinted at threats as you said.”
Tarta said unhappily, “Stop the mutual admiration and chuck that phone quickly!”
Gao Yang was shocked and quickly turned off the phone and tossed it away.
Yarebin chuckled and asked, “So what’s next, what should we do now?”
Gao Yang exhaled deeply, speaking softly, “We wait. If Poloneshenko truly releases them, this matter concludes temporarily. But if he doesn’t, things get troubleso; I need to arrange for Poloneshenko to feel a tangible threat imdiately.”
Yarebin said calmly, “Just make him feel the threat, not eliminate him at once? We certainly have the capability to assassinate him.”
Gao Yang shook his head, “That won’t do. Killing isn’t so straightforward. Not only is it difficult, but the consequences of assassination are beyond what we can handle. Even though Grand Ivan would take the bla, Poloneshenko is ultimately the president of Ukraine.”
Yarebin nodded and suddenly asked, “You care deeply about Shava from the White Shark Gang? If Poloneshenko refuses to release them, would you truly risk exposure to confront him to the end at this pivotal mont for Shava?”
Gao Yang replied without hesitation, “Yes, I would.”
Yarebin paused then waved his right hand and spoke quietly, “Forget it, I won’t comnt further; I said I wouldn’t interfere with your decisions anymore.”
Gao Yang laughed, “I know what you’re thinking. You might think it’s not worth risking yourself over a gang leader like Shava, perhaps I shouldn’t take risks for him, as I could easily find and foster another gang leader instead, right?”
Yarebin asked surprised, “You know all this? Yet you still act this way?”
Gao Yang, sowhat troubled, expressed, “You see, Yarebin, we’re in different positions and thus reach different conclusions. In Huaxia terms, you are in a lofty position while I am in the vast expanse below; you can rely on the nation as your backing when making decisions, whereas I must take responsibility for myself.
Simply put, when your subordinates are in difficulty and their lives versus the completion of a task is at stake, you can choose to sacrifice them to finish your mission. You receive new personnel to compensate, and no one would bla you, for at your position, that’s the necessary course of action.
I’m different. I’m a rcenary; my identity is complex now, but regardless, I earn my living through force. We have no backup. To my n, I’m their support; no trained soldiers are sent to , nor will anyone cover my failures. I must remain responsible for myself and everyone who follows .
Therefore, I cannot abandon anyone who is committed to following through thick and thin. If morale disperses, the group is impossible to lead.”
After slowly finishing his explanation, Gao Yang splayed his hands, “Our positions differ, hence our habits also vary. There’s sothing I’m unsure if it should be said; Black Demon’s support was the Soviet Union, and without the Soviet Union, Black Demon fell apart. My support is my brothers: regardless of what troubles we encounter, regardless of the extent of the challenges, as long as we are still here and united, we can keep rising again and again. Currently, Shava works for , and I am responsible for him. I am obligated to rescue him; if it truly is impossible, I might have to give up, but as long as there is hope, I will assu responsibility until the end. Risk is not a reason to abandon him, especially since my situation remains dangerous even if I don’t save him.”
Yarebin took a breath, nodded, and said, “You’re right; thank you for teaching this.”
