From the phone call to evacuating the wounded, only ten minutes had passed in total. You could say that they were ready to leave imdiately, but in just this short amount of ti, the retreat path was already under attack.
Ten minutes is definitely not enough ti for the Governnt Forces to travel from Donetsk to Khartsyzk. Even considering the shortest route, it’s about forty kiloters, so there’s only one possibility: the Governnt Forces must have cut off the road to Khartsyzk before launching the attack.
No ti for astonishnt, Li Jinfang imdiately shouted into the walkie-talkie, "Should we scout it out first!"
"Stop the car!"
After issuing the command over the walkie-talkie, Gao Yang exhaled and said loudly, "No need to scout, the sound is coming from the south, where the highways intersect. Governnt Forces are definitely trying to cut off the highways; there’s no other possibility. Regardless of who eventually controls the road, the fighting is definitely intense now. We can’t go there."
Glolov said helplessly, "That’s right, it’s the heat of battle now. We absolutely can’t go to where both sides are clashing. Let’s wait."
Gao Yang got out of the car, looked up at the sky, and now the gunfire was continuous, but so noises could still be distinguished from the chaotic din.
After listening intently for a mont, Gao Yang exhaled and said loudly, "That’s the sound of a 30mm cannon, and tank guns too. Just don’t know whose tanks those are."
Eileen pointed to the sky and shouted, "Aircraft! Helicopters!"
Gao Yang glanced and waved his hand, saying, "The Governnt Forces deployed airborne soldiers, and those ard helicopters must be theirs. The militias don’t have ard helicopters. Quick, everyone, let’s move to the basent. We’ll wait until the battle’s over to talk."
Glolov shouted, "Are we ready for combat?"
Gao Yang thought for a mont and said loudly, "Be ready for combat, guys. Use the equipnt we got from Butter Knife. It’s ti now. Let’s wait and see the result. I’ll contact Kiev. Even if the Governnt Forces win, we shouldn’t be attacked, but we must wait until the battle is over. Everything’s disordered now, so contacting Kiev won’t help. The most important thing is to avoid being mistakenly hit."
Given Gao Yang’s network in Ukraine, he could call straight through to the highest Commander there. As long as Poloneshenko makes a call to the front-line troops, Satan and his people would be safe. Gao Yang is not worried about an attack from the Governnt Forces; he’s worried about stray shells.
Everything’s turned into chaos, and shells don’t care who you are or how much power you have; when they fall, everything’s blown to bits.
The people who just got into the car began to move the wounded into the basent faster. Since they couldn’t leave, they needed to find a safe place to hide.
While others were busy moving the wounded and equipnt into the basent, Gao Yang stood outside, watching tracer bullets streak across the southern night sky.
It doesn’t matter what happens here to Gao Yang, but it’s truly the lifeline for the Angel rcenary Corps.
Originally, the Governnt Forces and militias were in a standoff. The militias held Donetsk City, with their main forces deployed in the city outskirts, and the Angel rcenary Corps controlled what could be considered Donetsk’s eastern district. anwhile, the Governnt Forces were gathered about thirty kiloters west of Donetsk City, with small groups on both sides operating in-between. There hadn’t been any large-scale conflict.
Now, in less than a night, the Governnt Forces have broken through the militia’s defense lines. They didn’t send their iron flood into the city, but instead swiftly advanced from both north and south sides of Donetsk, even reaching Khartsyzk, forty kiloters east of Donetsk.
The Governnt Forces’ intention was clear: they wanted to encircle Donetsk.
The geographical position of Khartsyzk behind Donetsk is crucial. If the Governnt Forces capture Khartsyzk, the only route for Donetsk to Eastern Ukraine would be cut, and the route north from Donetsk must pass through two strategic locations, Kramatorsk and Slavyansk, which are likely to be seized by the Governnt Forces soon.
As for Dokuchaev to the south of Donetsk, it was already under the control of the Governnt Forces.
This ans that since the Governnt Forces have broken through the front line of Donetsk and are coming from both north and south sides, Donetsk is already surrounded on three sides. Once Khartsyzk is taken, Donetsk will be completely encircled.
To be honest, it’s thanks to the wargas over the past two days that Gao Yang could easily understand the dire situation the militias, especially Nate, are in.
In modern warfare, once a major artery is cut, things quickly turn dire. It’s no longer about soldiers slashing with broadswords; it’s about firepower vs. firepower. Once the highways are cut, tanks and armored vehicles may pass off-road through fields, but supplies can’t be delivered en masse without roads.
Once the militia’s supply lines are cut, they’ll lose resources coming from the East or even Russia, at least a substantial portion. For a small group like Satan’s, a cut supply line has no effect, but for a larger formal army, that line is a lifeline.
To put it simply, if the Governnt Forces have a thousand tanks and the militias have a thousand tanks, both sides consu ten thousand shells a day. Without considering tank losses, just the supply of shells: after consuming ten thousand shells, the Governnt Forces can be resupplied with ten thousand shells daily, whereas the militias, with their line cut, can only receive a thousand through all available channels. Fighting under these conditions, the outco is clear.
Eastern Ukraine has already been at war, and the militias initially held their ground. But when the Governnt Forces resolved to engage, completed their war preparations, and truly began moving large troops and heavy weapons, intent on grand battle, the militia’s shortcomings and weaknesses were instantly revealed.
The difference in capability is quite significant. Although the militias may not be lacking in manpower, the disparity in heavy weapons like planes, tanks, artillery, and missiles is too great.
While Gao Yang worried about Nate, Cui Bo stepped in front of him and said softly, "Brother Yang, I..."
Gao Yang snapped out of his thoughts, turned to Cui Bo, and said, "Give your gun to soone else. You and I are going to find Lilia. Rember, if she doesn’t agree to leave with you, knock her out and take her by force."
