Capítulo 1931: Chapter 1908: Pulling Out the Nails

The shelling only lasted ten minutes because the militia’s ammunition supply was not as abundant as the governnt forces, and such continuous intense shelling consus a large amount of ammunition.

As soon as the shelling ended, Gao Yang shouted, “All companies pay attention, imdiately start a full-scale counterattack, and make sure to reserve enough backups!”

The governnt forces’ soldiers who had entered the city were cut off from their rear connections. However, whether those isolated soldiers could be quickly taken care of was still unknown, as urban combat was a huge test for both sides.

The battle was bound to be very tense, especially for the commander, because he had to keep an eye on the changes on the battlefield. Gao Yang couldn’t relax for a mont.

The progress of the battle was smooth. Once the militia began their counterattack, those scattered small enemy groups were quickly annihilated. The remaining enemies tried to retreat from the city, but their breakout efforts were thwarted. After suffering losses, the governnt forces’ soldiers quickly changed their tactics, starting to occupy buildings for defense.

The governnt forces attempted to send reinforcents to assist the forces trapped and unable to retreat smoothly, but their reinforcents couldn’t get in. Attempting to send small teams to sneak into Khartsyzk from around to avoid artillery strikes was achievable, but it was aningless for rescue. It would just trap more soldiers in the Khartsyzk grinder.

Two hours passed, and the battle officially entered a state of chaos.

Gao Yang had to keep watching the overall situation on the battlefield. After the initial chaos passed, the battlefield situation beca clear. As he had hoped, the governnt forces’ soldiers were divided and surrounded, but the remaining soldiers managed to regroup with difficulty and took up strong buildings as fortresses to resist the militia’s counterattacks. They indeed repelled the militia’s attacks one after another.

This urban battle occurred at night, disrupting Gao Yang’s deploynt. The serious lack of night battle capability prevented the militia from exerting their due strength, turning an encirclent and annihilation into a stalemate.

There were a total of four strongholds occupied by the governnt forces, and they couldn’t be taken down after long attacks. This result was troubleso because, on the one hand, it was true to say that the militia surrounded this part of the enemy that entered the city, but on the other hand, it could also be said that the enemy had nailed a post in the city.

If the militia ignored this part of the enemy forces, and the governnt forces dispatched more soldiers for a central breakthrough, the militia’s situation could beco perilous. The artillery’s firing range was limited, shells were limited, and it was impossible to blockade all around Khartsyzk. Giving the enemy more ti to adjust would accelerate the battle in an unfavorable direction.

Listening to the continuous sounds of gunfire and artillery, Gao Yang couldn’t sit still and shouted, “Let’s go, let’s check the position over at Camp One!”

Gao Yang was in the command center, and it was easy to move places. The only difference was going from a relatively safe place to the more dangerous front lines.

He quickly rushed to Bupasnov’s position, finding Bupasnov with an anxious expression, and Gao Yang shouted, “What’s going on!”

Bupasnov, now a battalion commander, was personally commanding an assault on a building. The fire coming from the gun barrels in each window of the four-story building never stayed in one place for too long, as the positions kept shifting.

Upon hearing Gao Yang’s question, Bupasnov anxiously said, “We can’t take it! We drove the enemy here, but now completely eliminating them is very difficult. We’ve lost more than a dozen n here, yet we still can’t break in. Even if we break in, it’ll still require tough battles to wipe out the enemies.”

Gao Yang took the rifle from his back, looked at it, and shouted, “Do we have any heavy weapons that can be used, weapons suitable for attacking buildings, like thermobaric rockets?”

Bupasnov imdiately said, “No, if we had them, we would’ve used them already.”

“So how many enemies are inside the building?”

“Hard to tell, but it seems like there are about fifty people.”

Gao Yang nodded, then turned to Chekriayev, who moved with him, and said, “How about using artillery to attack this building?”

Chekriayev frowned and said, “Not very effective. It would be better if we had direct-fire artillery to shoot through the windows one room at a ti, clearing them like targeting fortified structures. But the artillery shells from our positions fall vertically, and unless it’s continuous bombing over a long ti, they’re not very effective against this solid building.”

After pondering for a mont, Gao Yang shouted, “How about the tanks? We have two tanks!”

Chekriayev imdiately said, “Use tanks? That could work, but our ammunition is limited. The T-34 is too old, and its 76 mm shells are hard to find. We only have full-caliber capped armor-piercing bullets, which we can’t use, but the T-72 can be used, as we have plenty of shells for it. We have over a hundred 125 mm explosive shells.”

Gao Yang exhaled and imdiately said, “Bring the T-72 over.”

Chekriayev imdiately picked up the radio and shouted, “This is Snowfield, this is Snowfield, send over Fortress Number One and bring all Number Three Cigars, we’re going to entertain our guests with Number Three Cigars, make it quick.”

After Chekriayev finished, Gao Yang helplessly said, “Still using cipher communication now.”

Chekriayev shrugged and said, “Can’t help it, I’m used to it. If you tell to call in plain language, I wouldn’t know what to say.”

Gao Yang looked at the relatively tall building and said in a deep voice, “We can’t just sit and wait. Those who believe in their marksmanship, follow within a 300-ter range, and engage in precision shooting at the enemy, suppress them. Best to resolve the enemy before the tanks arrive.”

After speaking, Gao Yang looked at the nearby terrain, pointed at a building not far from him, and said, “Is that place safe?”

Bupasnov shouted, “Safe, we control it, and there’s our suppressive fire point there.”

Gao Yang waved his hand and shouted, “Go there, it offers a better field of fire. Hurry up.”

Recklessly attacking a building filled with many enemies personally is very dangerous, making it a bad idea. However, providing fire cover for the attacking militia from afar and suppressing enemy fire, Gao Yang felt no one on his team could do it better.

A group of people quickly ran to the third floor. Gao Yang set up his gun, Glolov set up his machine gun, and others carried automatic rifles. The suppressing fire effect at a 300-ter range was lacking, and with Cui Bo unable to move due to being with the injured, there was one less marksman who could provide precision fire. At most, Frey could add a hit with a rocket launcher, but even this amount of firepower seed enough.
