The convoy sped along, causing Gao Yang to be jostled around, but the speed still didn’t satisfy him.
"Give the GPS."
After getting the GPS from Eileen, Gao Yang glanced at it for a mont, then whispered over the radio: "We have left the enemy-occupied area, back on the road. Toad and Can Opener, lead the way ahead."
In the end, they had to leave the farmland and return to the road, but the road between Donetsk and Khartsyzk isn’t safe right now. Although the governnt forces haven’t completely taken control, their presence on this road is certainly not lacking.
The danger is there, but it’s still necessary to take the main road, just need to be more vigilant and careful.
It’s not easy for artillery to move; self-propelled artillery is better, but towing artillery is much harder to relocate. The speed will inevitably be slow, causing a disconnection between Satan and the artillery battalion. However, Gao Yang can no longer worry about this issue now. Ideally, Chekriayev can bring the artillery battalion to assist him, but if they can’t keep up quickly, or simply encounter an insurmountable obstacle, he will have to abandon them.
Li Jinfang and Jas were in one vehicle, leading alongside the vehicle driven by Sirte and Prince, positioned at the front of the convoy about two kiloters ahead.
The road conditions were not great, but the speed was much improved; at least running at seventy to eighty kiloters per hour wasn’t a problem. However, such smooth travel was almost impossible. Cutting off the connection between Donetsk and Khartsyzk was sothing the enemy had to do.
"A convoy spotted ahead, slow down, there are tanks, it’s the enemy!"
"It’s a tank convoy, tanks are full of personnel!"
Li Jinfang reported first, followed by Sirte. Both sides were traveling rapidly on the highway and would encounter each other in just tens of seconds, forcing Gao Yang to make a quick decision.
Logically speaking, in such a situation, one should imdiately leave the highway and drive the vehicles into the field on either side. But Gao Yang didn’t intend to do that; he almost instinctively said, "Don’t slow down, don’t engage, drive past at normal speed, and also wave to them."
The situation with the governnt forces in Khartsyzk was highly tense, so urgent reinforcents were only natural. If the enemy was eager to reach Khartsyzk, they would likely not intercept another convoy on the road to interrogate whether it was friend or foe, unless the convoy showed clear hostility.
Soon, Li Jinfang calmly reported over the radio: "Passed by, everything normal."
Two kiloters apart and traveling in opposite directions, the speed was akin to passing in a blur, making it impossible to discern the enemy’s faces; besides, both sides wore identical uniforms, distinguishing only by white strips to identify friend or foe. It was too easy to bluff.
Soon, Gao Yang spotted the convoy, and as six tanks approached, Eileen rolled down the window, slowed slightly, and extended her left hand out the window in a scissors gesture.
The soldiers on the tanks waved at the convoy, and they passed by each other.
Things went as expected, yet Gao Yang still exhaled a breath of relief after they passed, imdiately announcing over the radio: "Fox, inform Khartsyzk area, enemy reinforced with six tanks."
Khartsyzk was quite close to Donetsk; if not considering combat matters, they could definitely drive there in an hour. But with detours, and possible roadblocks set up by the enemy, the ti becos uncertain.
Ultimately, Satan needed to enter Donetsk City, and Donetsk and Makeyevka were connected as one urban area, completely encircled.
Looking at the GPS showing they were nearing Makeyevka’s urban area, not only could they not relax, they needed to be even more cautious and attentive, because on such main roads, encountering the enemy was inevitable, and it would be their elite forces responsible for blocking reinforcents and manning checkpoints.
Entering Makeyevka was equivalent to entering Donetsk, where there were no enemies in the urban area. As long as they broke through enemy blockades into the city, reaching Nate’s area posed no obstacles.
"Stay alert, be ready to leave the highway at any ti."
Just as Gao Yang finished giving orders, Li Jinfang reported over the radio: "There seems to be an enemy ahead, possibly a checkpoint or sothing similar."
Gao Yang checked his watch; they couldn’t afford to play it safe. Saving lives was like putting out a fire; Nate’s situation could not be delayed. Risks needed to be taken when required.
"Conduct reconnaissance closely, convoy behind reduce speed."
A brief command was all it took; Li Jinfang knew what to do.
Soon, Li Jinfang whispered: "Confird enemy presence, estimated under fifty n, but two armored vehicles blocking the road."
Gao Yang thought briefly and said deeply: "Can Opener, can we detour, taking the route you used to reach Khartsyzk."
"Detouring is possible, but it’s very far. The enemy’s east-line defenses of Donetsk are extrely tight, and heavily deployed there, cutting off all routes."
Gao Yang exhaled and loudly said: "Toad, evaluate the feasibility of forcibly pushing through."
"Forcing through is absolutely possible; the enemy’s setup prevents large forces from rescuing. For our small team, capable of abandoning vehicles anyti, the blockade is not very significant."
This was civil war; Donetsk was a Ukrainian city. Neither side could stop civilians from leaving. The governnt forces could conduct strict checks on anyone attempting to leave and those approaching the encircled area. However, those strict checks ultimately turned into blocking everyone from entering, only allowing exits. Encountering ard individuals classified them directly as enemies.
Gao Yang imdiately said: "Eliminate the enemy, force a breakthrough, prepare for battle, over."
Li Jinfang had already disembarked for reconnaissance. With orders complete, Eileen did not reduce speed, pulling the car up behind Li Jinfang’s vehicle parked at the roadside. Gao Yang picked up his rifle and whispered over the radio: "Annihilate all enemies quickly, drive through quickly after, drivers need not engage, await passage command, over."
Less than two kiloters away from the enemy, their actions and movents might have already been detected by the enemy. Yet, before confirming identities, the enemy was unlikely to fire rashly.
After disembarking, Gao Yang checked his watch, raising binoculars to observe the terrain of the enemy checkpoint. Then, he loudly announced over the radio: "We must resolve quickly, prolonged engagent will attract enemy artillery fire. If unable to conclude the battle within three minutes of initiation, imdiately abandon intention to force enter, over!"
