402: Chapter 400: The Grenade Flying in the Sky 402: Chapter 400: The Grenade Flying in the Sky Gao Yang’s shout as he threw the grenade revealed his position, but the grenade thrown at him was off target.

Gao Yang just glanced at the trajectory of the grenade and knew it wouldn’t land near him, but the grenade he threw also failed to reach the enemy’s position.

After firing his shotgun five tis in the direction of the thrown grenade, Gao Yang took to his heels.

As he ran, his enemy opened fire too.

The enemy was also using a shotgun, and it was a sound Gao Yang was extrely familiar with.

Gao Yang was stunned to find that not only was the enemy using a shotgun, but it was also the sa model as his own Benelli M4, and even the ammunition was the sa, absolutely three-inch 00 buckshot.

While surprised, the running Gao Yang pulled out another grenade and threw it towards the direction of the gunfire.

As he threw his grenade, he saw another grenade tossed at him, indicating again that the enemy was on the move.

Far from the grenade and with no sight of the enemy, Gao Yang dashed a few steps then knelt on one knee on the ground, confident that he could hit his enemy if they fired or threw another grenade.

But when Gao Yang stopped, so did his enemy.

There was no sound of gunfire, no footsteps; if he wanted to shoot, he would have to fire blindly into the lush vegetation.

The enemy’s timing and combat style hardly differed from Gao Yang’s, even the timing was nearly identical.

They fired when he fired, threw grenades when he threw them, and when he decided to hold and look for an opportunity, the enemy seed to think the sa.

It was a strange feeling, as if he was fighting his own shadow.

As Gao Yang was intently searching for likely places where the enemy could hide, Glolov’s machine gun roared to life.

Usually preferring burst fire, Glolov this ti held down the trigger, sweeping across the area.

Gao Yang glanced to his left and saw Glolov with the machine gun, sweeping horizontally.

While Gao Yang was engaged in a shootout with his unseen enemy, Glolov, Frey, and Cui Bo had quickly co over to provide support.

The direction of Glolov’s sweeping fire was the general area where Gao Yang’s enemies were hiding.

As Glolov was firing, Frey and Cui Bo each threw a grenade forward.

After firing at least seventy to eighty rounds, Glolov, who was standing, imdiately squatted down.

The reason he refused to shoot prone was that he was too close to the enemy, and if he laid down, he might not be able to move quickly enough should an enemy grenade be thrown his way.

After the sound of gunfire and the explosions of grenades, Jinfang’s urgent call ca through in Gao Yang’s earpiece.

“Enemies are spreading out and coming towards us, direction and distance unknown.

Be careful!”

Hearing this, Gao Yang felt frustrated; what a ss of a fight.

They couldn’t see a single enemy, were afraid to shoot for fear of revealing their position, yet not shooting ant being at a disadvantage against the enemy’s superior numbers, waiting to be surrounded.

Although Glolov had unleashed a sweep of machine-gun fire followed by the explosion of two grenades, Gao Yang heard no screams.

He believed the two n were likely not dead.

Two enemies were hiding just tens of ters away, but Gao Yang could not just rush over with his gun, especially since he was at a deadly disadvantage, his bulletproof vest not worn but strapped to the outside of his backpack behind him, and now there was no ti to put it on.

Determined to take out the two nearby enemies no matter what, Gao Yang knew that once they were dealt with, they could quickly put on their bulletproof vests.

If they had to retreat, they wouldn’t have to worry about an enemy tailing them.

Retreating with two enemies at their flanks would be too dangerous.

Gao Yang gestured to Glolov and the others, and Frey, who was kneeling on one knee, nodded after seeing it.

He gently laid down his gun and took out a mortar shell for Tommy from the ammunition carrier on his lower back, then gently emptied the shell’s prir and twisted it onto the shell.

The lethal radius of Gao Yang’s RGN offensive grenade was about five or six ters, but it would explode after hitting the ground, and if the target also lay down, the effective lethal radius would be good if it reached two ters.

As for the mortar shell, its lethal radius could reach fifteen ters.

Even with the enemy lying on the ground, the effective lethal radius would exceed seven or eight ters—definitely guaranteed to be five ters at least.

After Frey finished setting up the mortar shell’s prir, he held the shell in his right hand and gave an ‘ok’ sign with his left.

anwhile, Gao Yang and Cui Bo each took out an RGO defensive grenade, gently removed the pull ring, and Gao Yang raised his left hand to begin counting down with his fingers.

The RGO grenade was mostly the sa as the RGN, just heavier with more fragntation—aning a bit more powerful.

Both types used the UDZ-S fuse, which had the great advantage of being impact-activated and ti-delayed.

When Gao Yang finished counting down, he and Cui Bo would let go of the grenade levers, wait two seconds, and then throw them together.

Doing so would trigger the tid fuses, allowing the grenades to explode mid-air for maximum lethality even against prone enemies.

Just as Gao Yang and Cui Bo were about to throw their grenades, Frey would also throw his mortar shell.

Explosions sounded simultaneously from the sky and the ground, and Gao Yang didn’t believe his opponents could remain unhard, but when he had only curled two fingers for the countdown, a stun grenade exploded about seven or eight ters ahead of them.

The enemy in front of Gao Yang threw a stun grenade, but this ti they didn’t toss it into the air but directly from the bushes, and Gao Yang and his team couldn’t see the trajectory of the grenade until it had already exploded.

In the open area, and in broad daylight, the loud sound of the stun grenade had no effect, but Gao Yang and his team were still blinded, suddenly seeing nothing but a white expanse before their eyes.

The grenade in Gao Yang’s hand wasn’t thrown, while Glolov’s machine gun imdiately opened fire, and after a short two or three seconds had passed, when Gao Yang’s vision cleared enough to see, Glolov ceased firing.

After Glolov stopped shooting, Gao Yang imdiately heard the sound of hurried footsteps receding, as the two people hidden on the opposite side apparently used the stun grenade as a chance to escape.

Cursing silently, Gao Yang quickly made a hand signal, then carefully re-inserted the safety pin of his grenade.

They had been monts away from eliminating the enemy, but short by just one second, the enemy had escaped.

However, Gao Yang wasn’t at all disappointed with the outco; whether the enemy was dead or retreating, his objective had been achieved.

After reattaching the grenade to his combat vest, Gao Yang imdiately said into his radio, “Form a semicircular defense, Toad, pull back.”

Tommy and Bruce, who were at the back, ca running up quickly, along with four guides.

Because the enemy’s position wasn’t clear, they kept a distance of four or five ters from each other, forming an arc, but the spacing beca so wide that Gao Yang couldn’t identify who was on the far left of their formation.

“Cover each other and put on bulletproof vests, Little Fly, Test Tube, you two go first, then Worker Bee, Big Dog, and Rabbit, hurry up!”

After quietly giving the order, Gao Yang raised his gun, listening intently to every slight sound.

Previously in front of him, now to his right, Lee Jinfang and Lucica quickly crouched and ran over, with Lee stopping six ters from Gao Yang, while Lucica ran up to his side.

“There are at least twenty of them, they have spread out.”

Rushing to Gao Yang, Lucica whispered a few words and then imdiately knelt on the ground, sticking her ear to the soil.

After a quiet mont of listening, Lucica whispered again, “They are moving softly now, I can’t hear much, but they ca within thirty ters of just now.

I don’t know the current distance, but I estimate they’re definitely within forty-five ters.”

Gao Yang didn’t know that Lucica had the skill of lying on the ground to listen for footsteps, but upon learning that the enemy was only about forty ters away, he took down another RGO grenade and softly said into the radio, “The enemy is within forty-five ters, get ready with your grenades, use RGOs.”

Upon hearing Gao Yang’s words, everyone, except Glolov, took out a grenade and held it in their hands.

After listening on the ground for a while, Lucica shook her left hand at Gao Yang, indicating she heard nothing.

At that mont, Gao Yang imdiately said, “Hold off on the bulletproof vests, prepare to throw two rounds of grenades then retreat upon sighting the enemy.”

After Gao Yang issued the order, they waited for ten minutes without hearing anything, nor seeing anyone.

Lucica simply lay on the ground, motionless, listening for the enemy’s movents.

Both sides fell into a standoff in silence, with the enemy having the advantage in numbers and firepower.

An attack wasn’t possible, but a retreat would risk being shot in the back.

Gao Yang and his team were stuck, unable to advance or retreat, but their enemies were in the sa situation.

Though outnumbered, if the enemy dared to attack, they were sure not to fare well.

Gao Yang was waiting for the enemy to make a move, and after more than ten minutes of silent standoff, Lucica suddenly raised her head, pointing in a direction and urgently said, “There, twenty ters.”

Gao Yang whispered sharply, “Here!”

After a soft call, Gao Yang imdiately threw the grenade in his hand, followed swiftly by the others throwing their grenades in the direction Gao Yang had indicated.

In an instant, at least a dozen grenades were flying through the air.
