Chapter 4732: Sothing Happened
Despite his age, Muchen possessed an acute awareness of danger, honed by challenging experiences, particularly these ten days spent surviving in a forest alone. This instilled in him a cautious nature, preventing him from falling into deep sleep even at night.
On this particular night, the unusual silence – the complete absence of insect sounds – imdiately alerted Muchen that sothing was amiss. He quietly exited his small tent and detected a faint, unsettling scent in the air. A quick glance around revealed that only four night watchn were awake in the caravan, and they appeared listless and prone to yawning, suggesting they were affected by sothing. Muchen’s small face tightened; despite his lack of dical expertise, he instinctively knew the pervasive scent was wrong.
His gaze settled on the spirit beast carriage, and he quickly deduced that the lady inside was the intended target. His suspicions were confird when he witnessed a guard, ostensibly asleep by the fire, secretly throw sothing into the flas. This action intensified the strange aroma in the air, sending a chill down Muchen’s spine. He realized this was a joint effort to harm the lady, noting the complicit guard and the eerie silence of the surrounding natural environnt, which indicated assassins were likely lurking nearby.
Logically, Muchen should have quietly retreated to avoid entanglent. However, mories of the lady’s kindness – her offering of pastries and the small tent, and her gentle gaze that reminded him of his own mother – made it impossible for him to abandon her. He moved stealthily under the cover of darkness towards the spirit beast carriage. Just as he was about to climb in, the night watchn suddenly collapsed, and a signal flare whizzed into the night sky.
“Hurry up and leave! Soone is trying to kill you!” Muchen shouted as he quickly entered the carriage. Fortunately, its windows and doors were sealed, preventing the drug from fully perating the interior. The sudden intrusion woke the lady and her maid.
The maid, startled, pulled back the curtain to peer outside. She gasped upon seeing over a dozen black-robed n rushing towards them and cried out, “Madam, hurry up and leave! There are assassins!”
The lady was also taken aback, seemingly caught off guard, but there was no panic on her face. Instead, she smiled gently and said to Muchen, “Thank you, but don’t worry, everything will be fine.”
She said softly, adjusted her clothes, and got out of the spirit beast carriage on her own. At the sa ti, she said to Muchen and the maid, “Don’t get out, just stay in the carriage!”
Muchen was taken aback for a mont, but seeing that she looked calm and unperturbed, he cald down for so unknown reason. However, he did not stay in the spirit beast carriage, but followed her out and stood beside it.
“Madam, wait for , I’ll get down too.” The maid said and followed her down, but she had only just gotten off the spirit beast carriage when she fainted from the sll in the air.
Muchen glanced at the maid, then looked at the lady, and finally cald down.
“The sll of tendon-binding flower. It seems you were prepared.” The lady said softly, her gaze sweeping over the unconscious guards, the accomplice, and the dozen or so black-robed n who had appeared.
The lady calmly assessed the situation, her gaze sweeping over the unconscious guards, the treacherous accomplice, and the newly arrived black-robed assailants. “The sll of tendon-binding flower,” she mused softly, adding, “It seems you were prepared.”
The leader of the black-robed n, observing her standing unfazed without any signs of abnormality, expressed his surprise: “You’re not unconscious?”
