Chapter 4836: Unsettling feeling
Knowing that Feng Jiu had urgent business, Song Mi’er didn’t dally. She asked Feng Jiu to rest in the room, then quickly went downstairs to borrow the inn’s kitchen. Soon, she returned with two steaming bowls of dumplings.
After they finished eating, Feng Jiu gave a few parting words and then left alone, making sure to leave Cloud Devouring behind to protect Song Mi’er. Feng Jiu had noticed that along their journey, as soon as so people realized Song Mi’er was a mber of the renowned Song family, they would often target her. While Song Mi’er wasn’t entirely defenseless, she was, after all, Feng Jiu’s personal cook. Feng Jiu couldn’t let anything happen to her while she was away.
This particular area was under the dominion of one of the four emperors who had opposed Feng Jiu, and it was conveniently close to her own territory. This strategic proximity was precisely why she had chosen this location for her annexation plans. She had spent a few days here already, occasionally venturing out to gather intelligence, and now had a good grasp of the local situation. Today, her objective was to ascend to the floating island rumored to be above this region and ascertain if the emperor was residing on the immortal island.
She gracefully rose into the air, soaring towards the clouds. Unsure of the floating island’s exact celestial coordinates, she released her divine sense once she reached the cloud layer, ticulously searching for its hidden location.
After approximately the ti it takes for a stick of incense to burn, Feng Jiu opened her eyes. A flash of light glead within them, and the corners of her lips curved into a subtle, enigmatic smile that was neither a grin nor a frown. That floating island was cleverly concealed within the clouds, enveloped by a barrier and an array specifically designed to obscure its presence. If it weren’t for her unique spiritual consciousness, which surpassed that of ordinary cultivators, she would never have detected its whereabouts. But now…
She swept her sleeves aside, her red dress fluttering elegantly in the wind. In the next mont, her dazzling red figure transford into a brilliant beam of light, shooting straight towards the shrouded clouds.
At this very mont, the Great Emperor, who was in secluded cultivation on the immortal island, remained blissfully unaware that disaster was about to strike. Due to the severity of his injuries, he had made arrangents for his subordinates, then consud a dicinal pill to regulate his breathing and focus on cultivation, hoping for a swift recovery.
However, he and his fellow emperors were acutely aware of the imnse energy they had expended in their recent attack. They knew a quick recovery was impossible. Yet, apart from isolating themselves for practice and recuperation, they had no other recourse. After all, the persistent fear of Feng Jiu seeking them out lood large.
In the secluded cave abode nestled behind the Immortal Palace, the Great Emperor exhaled softly, a furrow forming between his brows as he opened his eyes. A nagging sense of unease plagued him today, an unsettling premonition that sothing was amiss, preventing him from calming his mind enough to cultivate and regulate his breathing effectively.
“What is going on? Could sothing be happening?” he murmured to himself. At their level of power, they often possessed a keen intuition for impending danger, and it was precisely this intuition that frequently allowed them to avert crises. He had always trusted his premonitions, just as he did now. When an unexplainable wave of panic welled up in his heart, he ceased his practice and breathing exercises. He opened his eyes, stepped off his ice bed, and began pacing back and forth in the cave abode, his hands clasped behind his back, his face etched with deep thought and worry.
“What could possibly be happening? Everything has been ticulously arranged, and for utmost safety, I even set up layers of barriers and formations. Even this immortal island is thoroughly hidden within the clouds, yet now…”
