"Who are you? Looking for soone?" A head poked through the open door crack, sizing up the two n before asking.
"I’m your family’s old ancestor..."
Old Predecessor Guo paused, ntally searching for his late friend’s title and which generation back he might be. The hesitation lingered.
But in that brief pause, the gatekeeper’s expression darkened, turning grim. Withdrawing his head, he barked an angry rebuke: "How dare you! Who are you, you shaless scoundrel? To speak such insolence! To insult my family’s venerable Old Predecessor!"
The door, which had been opened just a crack, slamd shut with a loud bang. The speed of it startled Old Predecessor Guo, leaving him montarily stunned and unable to react.
He was, after all, a venerable immortal. For the gatekeeper to show such utter disregard for etiquette was truly arrogant and presumptuous.
His expression darkened slightly, his brow furrowing. Just as he prepared to knock again, the gate swung open, and several figures wielding sticks rushed out.
"Beat him soundly! How dare he insult our Old Predecessor? Beat him!" The gatekeeper barked the order, his face twisted with viciousness.
Behind him, Yue’er, who had been munching on spirit fruits, watched the scene in stunned silence. Her beautiful eyes widened in shock. Seeing the n charging out, she didn’t flee but instead stepped forward to stand beside Old Predecessor Guo. Curiously, she asked, "Did you knock on the wrong door?"
Old Predecessor Guo took a deep breath, his brow furrowing. As he saw several n charging at him with sticks, he swept his sleeve, sending them all flying backward. Only then did he call out in a steady voice, "I am an old friend of your family’s Old Predecessor. I ca at his invitation to attend the banquet!"
Hearing this, the repelled n froze, exchanging bewildered glances. They knew that their Old Predecessor had recently hosted guests, but could this old man before them also be one?
If so, offending such an honored guest would spell real trouble.
The gatekeeper hesitated, glancing at him before cautiously asking, "May I inquire... your honorable surna?"
"Guo," he replied, frowning.
Hearing this, the gatekeeper’s legs buckled. His knees buckled, and he fell directly to his knees. "I... I failed to recognize your stature, sir. Please... please do not hold it against ..."
Old Predecessor Guo said nothing, instead leading Yue’er inside. Those within saw them and hurried to usher them into the hall, while others swiftly went to report.
Yue’er, having just finished eating, couldn’t sit still. She wandered about, touching this and examining that, while waiting for the others to arrive.
Old Predecessor Guo remained silent too, rely sipping his tea with calm composure, looking thoroughly at ease.
"Ha ha ha ha! Brother Guo! We’ve been waiting for you!" An elderly man strode in, his laughter reaching their ears before he did.
Yue’er looked over curiously. The man appeared quite old, yet radiated a powerful aura. Dressed in simple gray robes, his presence commanded respect.
"The Yu family’s gates are no easy place to enter! I finally made it here, yet nearly got thrown out," Old Predecessor Guo remained seated, twirling his teacup as he watched his old friend approach with a light snort of displeasure.
Hearing this, the Yu family Old Predecessor froze, his surprise evident. "Is that so? I truly had no idea." Without waiting for a response, he turned with a dark expression and barked orders to those behind him.
"Go! Replace the gatekeeper! Who was wielding that stick to chase people away? Deal with them all!"
