Feng Jiu smiled, walked over to the table, and sat down. “If they wish to stay, let them stay. It’ll be interesting to see what they’re up to.”
Madam Song paused, her gaze lingering on Feng Jiu’s serene expression and the calm, faint smile at the corner of her lips. Sohow, her heart settled a little.
She composed herself and apologized, “I’m afraid I’ve made a spectacle of myself. There’s no one else in the house I can talk to, and I find I get along well with you, so I ended up sharing these things with you.”
“It’s fine,” Feng Jiu said with a smile. “I’m happy to listen. Besides, I don’t think the Song family is any less than the Cheng family.”
A gentle smile blossod on Mrs. Song’s face. “My husband’s reputation as a culinary master is indeed far-reaching, and his skills are truly formidable. Throughout this region, the various clans show him considerable respect. No one has ever troubled our Song family.” ntioning her husband, her face lit up with pride.
Her voice paused, and her expression turned serious. “However, compared to the Cheng family, the Song family truly falls short. Right now, I only hope they’ll rest for a day or two and then leave quickly, to avoid any trouble arising.”
The two chatted idly in the courtyard for a while. Before long, Lady Song rose first and departed. After she left, Feng Jiu also returned to her room to prepare for sleep.
As night fell, Feng Jiu slipped quietly out of her courtyard and made her way to the guest quarters where the Cheng family resided. From the shadows, she observed that the compound was guarded with ticulous vigilance—guards patrolled both inside and outside. Earlier that day, she had also noticed four formidable-looking elders following closely behind Cheng Wanli.
Therefore, as she approached the courtyard, she exercised extre caution. Evading the watchful eyes, she slipped silently into the compound. Her figure leapt up and landed on the rooftop, blending into the night shadows. Unnoticed, she lay concealed.
Lying low, she listened intently to the sounds below. Faintly, she heard Cheng Wanli’s voice drifting from the rooms beneath.
“Apply the dicine! Treat her wounds imdiately! She’s an eyesore!” Cheng Wanli swept his sleeve as he exited the room and headed to another chamber. Shortly after, two maidservants erged, having applied the dicine, and took up guard outside the door.
She lifted a corner of the roof to peer down. On the bed, the woman who had been unconscious during the day was now awake, yet lay motionless beneath a quilt. It appeared she wore no clothing underneath.
After a quick glance, she replaced the lifted corner of the blanket and leapt lightly onto the roof of the adjacent room.
Inside the room, one of the elders addressed Cheng Wanli: “The night is deep now. If you must go on your errand, go. But if you fail to discover where the Song family’s treasure is hidden, rember to administer the drug afterward to erase her mory of tonight. We mustn’t alert the enemy prematurely.”
“I know, rest assured! I know what I’m doing.” Cheng Wanli chuckled, rising to his feet and adjusting his robes. His face beaming, he added, “I’ll head out now, Old Fu. Let’s go! I’ll handle things inside; you keep watch outside.”
“Understood.” One of the elders replied, stepping beside him as they walked out together.
After watching them leave the room, Feng Jiu suppressed her aura and slipped into the night, heading toward the main courtyard.
Her eyebrows arched slightly. She hadn’t expected this man to be so impatient—arriving today and already attempting to sneak into the main courtyard tonight. Truly, his lust had made him utterly reckless!
