Unable to see Xiao Junyan, Yue’er had no choice but to confront the imminent danger alone. Though her strength fell short of Xiao Junyan’s, she still possessed the ans to defuse certain threats.
Mist swirled thickly around them, yet slashes of icy-cold blades pierced through the haze, striking with deadly intent as if determined to end their lives.
Whoosh! Whoosh!
Yue’er cald her mind to focus on the crisis. Yet the blades were swift and dense as arrows. Even evading vital points left her with superficial wounds. Forced back into a corner to dodge the blades,
Just then, as she was forced back into a corner, her foot seed to step on sothing. Her entire body fell backward, as if tumbling into another space.
"Ah!"
She instinctively let out a low cry before vanishing.
"Little Qi!"
Xiao Junyan imdiately scanned the area beyond the cry, only to see several sword blades streaking toward Yun Qi. The fierce sword qi and the murderous intent radiating from the blades sent a chill through him. He shouted, "Watch out!"
The words barely left his lips when he lunged forward, pulling her into his embrace. His hand swept out to deflect the incoming blades. Yet, overwheld by the sheer number, one sword still pierced his body with a sharp whistling sound. In that very instant, the figure he held vanished into a cloud of smoke within his arms.
Xiao Junyan froze, his brow furrowing tightly. One hand pressed against his stabbed abdon while he scanned the surroundings. The swords had vanished, and the smoke had dispersed. Within this space, Yun Qi’s figure was nowhere to be seen.
"Little Qi!" he cried out. The movent caused the wound to bleed more profusely.
"Big Brother Xiao!"
Yue’er had no idea what was happening. She had fallen into this place, trapped as if within an invisible space. She could see Xiao Junyan, but he seed unable to see her.
Watching the blood seep through the gaps between his fingers as he clutched his abdon, she felt both worry and guilt. If that mist hadn’t taken her form, if he hadn’t tried to shield her, soone of his cultivation wouldn’t have been wounded.
Yet what Yue’er never anticipated was that for the long stretch that followed, the recurring visions felt as real as if she were there herself. Isolated like an outsider, she watched as Xiao Junyan’s wounds multiplied and his complexion grew paler by the mont.
She stared blankly, her eyes reddening as mist clouded her vision. Ever since leaving the mountain gates and spending ti together, she knew he might truly care for her. But she never imagined that upon seeing her in danger—even if it was likely just an illusion—he wouldn’t dare take risks, leading him to suffer injury ti and again...
She didn’t know what love was, but in this mont, her heart softened.
"Hmph... Who would’ve thought he’s such a hopeless romantic."
A cold, female voice suddenly echoed, tinged with resentnt and mockery.
"Who’s there? Who are you? Why are you doing this to him!" Yue’er shouted angrily, scanning her surroundings, but found nothing.
"Heh heh heh... Not a single man in this world is worth a damn. Don’t be fooled by his willingness to suffer for you—he’ll change his heart in the blink of an eye. Besides, as an innate spirit-gathering body, he probably only covets your body."
The icy laughter echoed crisply in Yue’er’s ears.
