Not only Seraphina, but even the surrounding furniture, the room's walls, the trees outside the window, and even the sun in the sky all simultaneously began to convulse, shaking erratically.
Seraphina's transformation was the most obvious. Her face had already beco dislocated, and her body was twisting at a bizarre angle.
Having reached this point, Loren finally realized sothing was terribly wrong, no matter how he looked at it. He drew Requiem without hesitation.
"Throat-Severing Slash!"
A flash of blade light passed. Seraphina's neck was severed, but she didn't seem affected at all. Only the dislocation of her face beca more severe. Now, her face was floating in mid-air, half of it already void-walking, still continuously squirming.
"What the hell is going on?"
Faced with this situation, even Loren was montarily stunned. He grabbed Mirrorheart's hand, intending to flee, but the door simply wouldn't open. Loren had no choice but to use his blade to cut the door to pieces.
Yet, even after being cut apart, the fragnts didn't fall to the ground due to gravity. In the end, Loren had to kick the door to successfully smash it open. Even then, those fragnts didn't land; instead, they randomly appeared in a corner of the house.
"Master ntor!"
It wasn't just Loren's room; the entire building was undergoing an anomaly. The other two maids had also transford into the sa state as Seraphina. The group of Witches didn't rush to act, instead waiting for Loren's command.
"Get out first!"
Loren recalled the sensation when he cut Seraphina; it was the sa as when he cut the door. This indicated that these things disguised as maids weren't living beings at all but were part of the environnt, just like everything else.
The colors of the surrounding scene rapidly changed. To say the colors changed was more like the material itself was transforming. The marble floor turned into wooden planks one mont, flesh and blood the next, and could even beco air.
Loren hoisted Mirrorheart onto his shoulder with one arm and charged straight for the doorway. Anything blocking his path was severed with a single slash, and everyone followed closely behind him.
But escaping outside was of no use either. The outside was also in this ghostly state.
"Master ntor... The soul fragnts I sent to other places... my connection to them has been severed..."
Movila explained the situation. She was still using her Arcane Ability to survey the surroundings, and imdiately afterward, her expression turned to one of horror.
"We haven't left the village far at all! The anomaly is only occurring in this specific area we're in! Everywhere else is completely normal! The village is right next to us!"
"We really have been affected by confusion after all..."
Loren felt a headache coming on. Logically, with his True Sight Eye, he shouldn't be deceived by illusions.
"Forget all that! Hurry and leave this dangerous place!"
Movila also brought so good news. This at least indicated that the place they were currently in had boundaries. As long as they could escape, things would be manageable.
Loren began running with all his might. His agility wasn't low, so logically, if this area wasn't large, he should be able to run out quickly. But no matter how desperately Loren ran, it had no effect. He couldn't see any border at all.
Movila's crow circled in the air, continuing to observe the area. Soon, Movila delivered another piece of bad news.
"We... have been running in place the whole ti... My crow can see the border, but it can't fly over to it..."
Loren stopped running. This ti, he clearly felt the surrounding scene moving backward.
So it wasn't that he hadn't run out; it was that the scene had been retreating the whole ti.
"Now I understand what's happening..."
Upon realizing this, Loren revealed a bitter smile.
"The reason the True Sight Eye couldn't see through these illusions is that this damn thing isn't an illusion at all! All these chaotic materials have literally pieced together a world for us!"
Loren casually chopped down a tree. However, the tree didn't fall. It continued to change. Before Loren cut it, it was a tree; after being cut, it turned into a pillar.
"These are all physical entities, and they can move. We are physically trapped here by this kind of thing."
"What should we do then?"
This was a situation none of them had ever encountered before. They could only rely on Loren to break the deadlock.
"Running won't get us out. To escape, we can only defeat the one controlling this place. The only ones capable of doing sothing like this are probably Angels and Gods."
Loren looked up at the sky. Above the sun, there was a black dot, and it was gradually expanding.
"Prepare yourselves to face an Angel. This ti, you don't need to hold back. Everything is for the sake of survival."
"The efficiency of the God of Confusion's followers in transmitting information isn't high. As long as we can kill the Angel and all witnesses here, we'll be safe and sound."
As the black shadow fell, Loren had already drawn his blade.
"The mont you see It, imdiately drink the Bloodbath Rhapsody Elixir I gave you earlier. This thing can resist confusion."
As the black shadow descended, Loren heard a scream. The sound was heart-wrenching; just hearing it made Loren feel his own spirit was under attack.
Finally, the black shadow landed on the ground, and Loren was able to see Its true form.
It was a humanoid creature, its entire body covered in mouths whose positions constantly shifted. Behind It were six wings. To call them wings was generous; they looked more like eyes without pupils.
"Ah!"
Its mouths were continuously being sewn shut, so It could only repeatedly tear open the sewn-shut mouths by force. One of Its hands was a trumpet, making it very inconvenient when tearing at those mouths.
"The Angel of Confusion..."
Now Loren was completely certain of the monster's identity. It was indeed the Angel of Confusion. His worst-case scenario from before had co true.
The Angel of Confusion looked to be in great pain. Its entire body twisted in agony, continuously rolling on the ground. Precisely because of this, It was unable to continue controlling this area.
Loren also roughly guessed the reason It had beco like this: simply because It had uttered a forbidden vocabulary.
Previously, Loren only knew that forbidden vocabulary consisted of the true nas of the Orthodox Gods. He never expected The Perpetual Observer to be one as well. And this Angel wasn't even the one who said it directly; rely saying it through another dium had caused It to beco like this.
At this mont, Loren had many more questions. Why was it that when Mirrorheart and Seraphina uttered the na of The Perpetual Observer before, nothing happened at all? Could it be that this taboo was limited to Angels?
However, this also answered one of Loren's questions: why his previous understanding of The Perpetual Observer was so scarce. It was because the Orthodox Gods were exerting their full power to **blockade** this information, to the extent that even an Angel inadvertently uttering this na caused It unbearable suffering.
"Strike while the enemy is down!"
Loren wasn't soone who adhered to martial virtue. The Angel being in this state was a heaven-sent opportunity for him. Perhaps he could kill this Angel without needing to use his trump cards.
The already-prepared Crimson Blade slashed out. Loren's figure followed closely behind. The mont the Crimson Blade struck ho, Loren's blade also pierced into the mouth located on the Angel's chest. Sin-Burning Flas erupted at that instant.
