The mont broke naturally.
Just a sales associate approaching with another jacket recomndation and Gloria stepping back smoothly into her usual effortless composure.
By the ti they left the store, she was smiling again,
laughing lightly,
sunglasses back in place.
But sothing underneath the dynamic had shifted permanently.
Because now the attraction between them wasn't built only on chemistry.
It carried understanding too.
That made it more real.
The afternoon crowd moved around them while luxury storefronts reflected late sunlight across the sidewalks.
Then Gloria slowed near a quieter café terrace tucked slightly away from the main street.
"Coffee."
"That sounded less like a suggestion."
"I am Colombian. Coffee is not optional."
A few minutes later they sat at a shaded outdoor table overlooking the street while Gloria stirred sugar into espresso she absolutely didn't need.
The conversation stayed quieter now.
More personal.
Gloria rested her sunglasses atop her head before looking toward him again.
"You did not laugh."
"At what?"
"When I talked about aging."
"That didn't sound funny."
A small pause followed that answer.
Then Gloria smiled faintly into her cup.
"Most people rush to reassure won." She glanced toward the street. "They tell us we are still beautiful like beauty is the only thing worth saving."
That sounded lived-in too.
Gael leaned back slightly in the chair.
"And what did you want them to say?"
Gloria looked at him for a second.
Then:
"I wanted soone to understand why it hurts."
The afternoon noise around the café suddenly felt farther away.
Because underneath all the warmth and confidence, Gloria clearly carried loneliness nobody around her fully noticed.
Not because Jay was cruel.
Not because her marriage was unhappy.
But because after years of being admired for beauty and personality, very few people actually stopped to look deeper.
And sohow—
Gael had.
Gloria noticed the realization settling in his expression and laughed softly once.
"You see?" She pointed lightly toward him with her coffee spoon. "Dangerous."
"That explanation still feels incomplete."
"That's because you are a man."
Fair enough.
Then her expression shifted slightly again.
More playful now.
Safer.
"Also, I enjoy that you do not panic around ."
"Should I?"
"You would be surprised." Gloria smiled knowingly. "Most n either beco stupid or arrogant after five minutes."
"That sounds exhausting."
"It is exhausting."
The waiter passed nearby and Gloria thanked him automatically in Spanish before looking back toward Gael again.
Then:
"You know what else I like?"
Still smiling, Gloria leaned slightly forward across the table.
"You make feel young without making feel ridiculous."
This ti, there was no joke protecting it afterward.
