Phil sohow arranged a viewing for the house less than four hours later.
"That feels illegal," Claire muttered while walking down the driveway beside the family.
"It's networking," Phil corrected proudly.
"You t the realtor once at a hardware store."
"She rembered my energy."
"That's what concerns ."
The house next door looked even bigger in person.
Modern exterior.
Large front windows.
Fresh landscaping that practically scread expensive California suburbia.
Haley was already excited before they even walked inside.
"If this place has a good closet, I'm emotionally moving in imdiately."
"You don't even live with now," Gael pointed out.
"That sounds temporary."
Alex snorted quietly while Luke sprinted ahead toward the backyard like an unleashed animal.
The realtor opened the front door with professional enthusiasm.
"Welco in."
The tour started normally enough:
high ceilings,
open kitchen,
living room connected to the patio.
Phil reacted to every room like he'd discovered architecture personally.
"Oh wow, look at this lighting."
"It's windows," Claire replied.
"Luxury windows."
anwhile Haley had attached herself to Gael's side almost permanently while exploring.
Pulling him toward rooms.
Comnting on furniture placent.
Already acting like she belonged there.
Honestly?
It was kind of adorable.
The upstairs was where things beca dangerous.
Mostly because the layout mirrored the Dunphy house closely enough to feel familiar while still being noticeably larger.
"This room gets amazing sunlight," Gloria comnted while opening curtains in one of the guest rooms.
Jay looked around once and nodded reluctantly.
"Good property."
Which, coming from Jay, basically qualified as enthusiasm.
Alex wandered more quietly through the hallway while Gael checked another room.
Then she stopped near one of the upstairs windows overlooking both backyards.
"You'd really buy this place?" she asked.
The question sounded calr than the others earlier.
More thoughtful.
Gael stepped beside her near the window.
"It's a good investnt."
"That's not what I asked."
Downstairs, Phil's voice echoed loudly about smart thermostats while Haley laughed at sothing Luke yelled from outside.
Normal family chaos drifting upward through the house.
Alex looked back out the window again.
"You'd basically beco part of the neighborhood permanently."
Gael leaned lightly against the wall beside her.
"You make that sound ominous."
"I'm deciding if it is."
That got a smile out of him.
For a second neither moved.
Then Alex glanced sideways.
Haley had appeared at the other end of the hallway watching them both.
She walked toward them slowly before slipping naturally under Gael's arm the second she reached him.
"You disappeared," she told him.
"You've seen within the last three minutes."
"Still counts."
Alex watched the interaction quietly for half a second before looking away first.
Then Haley turned toward the bedroom behind them.
"Oh my God."
Claire walked upstairs at exactly the wrong mont.
"What?"
Haley pointed dramatically into the room.
"This would be his office."
Claire blinked once.
Then looked toward Gael.
Then toward the room.
And for the briefest second—
sothing about the idea visibly beca real in her head too.
Actually next door.
Close enough to walk over casually.
Close enough to beco routine.
Claire crossed her arms lightly.
"That's… dangerously convenient."
Phil's voice echoed from downstairs instantly.
"I HEARD THAT AND I CHOOSE POSITIVITY."
