A day after that event, the news of an E-ranked adventurer repelled wyverns that attacked the city of Berm.

In the adventurer’s guild, the mont he entered, all eyes were trained on him.

"So that’s him huh?"

"The one who felled wyverns."

Marcus didn’t slow down.

He walked past them, boots steady against the wooden floor. The usual noise inside the guild had dropped. Conversations were cut short as he passed. A few adventurers shifted in their seats, watching him without trying to hide it.

At the front desk, Elaina was already there.

She straightened when she saw him.

"You’re early," she said.

Marcus stopped in front of the counter.

"You said I should co."

Elaina nodded once, then glanced toward the stairs at the back of the hall.

"The Guildmaster wants to see you."

A few heads turned at that.

Marcus followed her gaze briefly.

"Upstairs?"

"Yes."

She stepped out from behind the counter.

"I’ll take you."

They moved past the main hall and toward the rear of the building.

A short hallway led to a set of stairs.

Elaina went up first.

Marcus followed.

The second floor was different. Quieter. Fewer people. Doors lined the corridor, most of them closed. A pair of ard guards stood near the far end, both wearing light armor with the guild’s insignia stamped on their chest plates.

They watched Marcus approach.

One of them knocked on the door behind him.

"Guildmaster, the adventurer has arrived."

A voice answered from inside.

"Send him in."

The guard stepped aside and opened the door.

Elaina looked at Marcus.

"I’ll wait here."

Marcus gave a short nod and stepped inside.

The room was wide but not overly decorated. A large desk sat near the window, stacked with docunts and maps. Shelves lined one wall, filled with records and scrolls. The sll of ink and old paper hung in the air.

Behind the desk sat a man in his late forties.

Broad shoulders. Short hair. A clean beard. His posture was straight, eyes already fixed on Marcus the mont he entered.

The door closed behind him.

For a second, neither of them spoke.

The Guildmaster leaned back slightly in his chair.

"So," he said, voice calm.

"You’re the one who shot down wyverns in my city."

Marcus stopped a few steps from the desk.

"I am."

The man studied him with a parchnt on his hand.

"So, Marcus Manfred. I read your file, you passed the exam just days ago and your ability is that you use explosive magic with an odd-looking staff."

"Yes sir," Marcus confird.

"Well without you yesterday, the damage would be catastrophic. We were shocked that a wyvern attacked our city, which ans their nest must be probably nearby."

"I’m an adventurer sir, I kill monsters for a living, though the last monster I killed is a sli, and I am limited by that when I’m an E-rank adventurer."

"You are right and with your skillsets, I think your ranks doesn’t fit what you showed yesterday," the Guildmaster finished.

He set the parchnt down on the desk and leaned back in his chair, fingers resting lightly against the armrest. His eyes stayed on Marcus, steady and asuring.

"E-rank adventurers don’t bring down wyverns," he said. "Not even in groups."

Marcus didn’t respond.

The Guildmaster reached for another docunt and pulled it closer. A different sheet this ti, thicker, with a seal stamped at the top.

"I’ve already reviewed the reports," he continued. "Multiple witnesses. Consistent accounts. Two confird kills within the city periter. One more likely outside the walls."

He tapped the paper once.

"That alone qualifies for an imdiate reassessnt."

Marcus shifted his weight slightly.

"So?"

"You are being promoted son," the guildmaster said.

"To what rank?"

The Guildmaster t his gaze.

"C-rank." he added. "C-rank gives you access to higher-paying contracts, higher-risk assignnts, and direct monster suppression requests. You’ll be eligible for escort missions outside city limits, dungeon clearances, and classified requests issued by the guild."

He slid the docunt forward across the desk.

"You’ll also be expected to respond to ergencies like yesterday’s without delay."

Marcus stepped forward and took the paper.

The seal was fresh.

His na was written clearly under the rank designation.

C-rank Adventurer.

He looked back up.

"That fast?"

The Guildmaster didn’t flinch.

"You already proved it in the field. I’m not going to waste ti pretending you’re still E-rank."

Marcus gave a short nod.

"That’s fair."

"And as for the compensation, we’ll give you 600,000 thousand kinah, 200,000 kinah per each kill."

Heating that, Marcus’s eyes lit up. "Really? You are giving that much?"

"Of course, it’s a wyvern after all. Their scales, despite the damage, can still be used to make high-quality armor," the guildmaster replied. "Congratulations once again on your promotion."

"Thank you sir too for the recognition."
