If she was just as insignificant as she claid, and the people around her claid, then handing her over to Anthony to kill would have been the end of it.
But he felt it wasn’t that simple.
More importantly, he found himself curious about her.
Curious about what she represented in Yue Siqing’s eyes.
Perhaps Gu Anjin was Yue Siqing’s only vulnerability.
He had to figure this out.
*
"They’re probably already gone."
Arthur said through gritted teeth before stepping into the abandoned factory.
But when they entered, they saw two bodies on the ground, a pool of blood, and not far away, Gu Anjin lying there, uncertain if dead or alive.
"Jinjin?" Arthur’s soul was about to fly out of his body; he hadn’t even moved his legs when he saw a figure swiftly run past him.
Yue Siqing quickly reached Gu Anjin’s side.
She had blood on her body, but it was clear it wasn’t hers.
It seed to have splattered from a nearby shooting.
He imdiately checked her heartbeat, and in that instant, his own heart nearly stopped.
"How is Jinjin?"
"She’s fine." Yue Siqing swiftly picked her up, almost no one noticed the change in his voice, "You handle the aftermath."
After tossing out those last words, he imdiately carried Gu Anjin away.
Arthur halted in place and glanced at the two bodies on the ground.
They seed indeed to be Anthony’s n, but who fired the shots?
A bullet straight to the forehead, it likely wasn’t shot during a gunfight.
But it surely couldn’t have been Anthony himself; he wouldn’t leave Jinjin here.
During their investigation, they concluded it wasn’t Anthony.
Arthur didn’t linger on the thought, letting others take care of the scene as he quickly exited.
Just as he intended to check on Jinjin, Yue Siqing’s car had already driven off.
In the car, Yue Siqing checked her body, finding no other injuries, only that she had been knocked unconscious.
He held her tightly in his arms, his hand gripping hers, and his cold thin lips unconsciously pressing against her head.
The tension in his heart had yet to ease.
When the car arrived at the villa, the doctor was already waiting.
By the ti the doctor left the room, it was already dusk.
Yue Siqing leaned against the wall in the corridor, a cigarette between his long fingers, smoke swirling around.
"Mr. Yue?" The doctor was surprised, not expecting him to still be waiting outside after all this ti.
"How is she?"
"She’s still unconscious for now, but she’ll be fine. I don’t know what she’s been through, but the blood... she might be a bit frightened when she wakes."
Yue Siqing nodded, his face under the shadow of the light seeming to be carved from stone.
After saying this, he extinguished the cigarette and pushed open the door to enter.
The person on the bed was still sleeping, but had already changed clothes.
Perhaps due to nightmares, her brows remained tightly furrowed, her breathing not quite steady.
He lowered his gaze for a mont, then went forward to hold her in his arms, "Jinjin, it’s alright now."
Gu Anjin suddenly opened her eyes slightly.
She was held from behind, arms wrapped around her from her lower back, pressing her entire back tightly against his chest, her hands firmly held by his larger ones.
Yue Siqing.
She had returned to his embrace.
Gu Anjin drowsily wondered if this was a dream.
But it felt so real.
She didn’t dare open her eyes or make a sound, afraid that any movent would make him disappear.
Why is it that when she wakes up, he never touches her?
Sotis, even when she grabs his hand, it gets pushed away.
