After a short nap, Nora Ainsworth found herself with nothing to do in the afternoon, so she sat in a swing chair and read a romance novel. She cleaned every morning, which ant her afternoons were mostly for rest. There was hardly any work to do, so it was far from tiring.
The housekeeper walked over with a pleasant smile. "Just a heads-up, the Young Master is requesting that you get a physical in twenty days. He wants to ensure all the staff are healthy."
Nora smiled and nodded. "Okay."
The housekeeper sat down beside her. "Amy, have you been feeling unwell lately?"
"No," she said, shaking her head. "Just so aches and pains."
"Our Young Master is very concerned about the staff’s health. You might be overworked. You can take the next couple of days off to rest."
Nora waved it off. "No, that’s alright. I’m not tired. My days are already easy, I barely do any work. If I take ti off on top of that, I wouldn’t feel right accepting my wages."
"Very well."
Nora hesitated for a mont before asking haltingly, "Ma’am, I think... our Young Master is a bit strange."
"How so?"
"He’s always doing... strange things." She was too embarrassed to elaborate.
"He has a few little quirks. If they make you uncomfortable, just try to bear with it. He’s leaving in a couple of days anyway."
Nora nodded. ’If I didn’t know he was leaving in a few days, I’d be long gone.’
’The man is a total psycho!’
Over the next two days, Nora was pushed to the absolute end of her rope.
She had to go into his room every day, and he would always find a way to get a little too close, all under the guise of it being "for her own good."
After this happened a few more tis, Nora decided the Young Master wasn’t just a psycho, but a compulsive liar as well.
「Finally, the day of his departure arrived.」
First thing in the morning, she brought breakfast to his room.
Then, she woke him up.
As always, he waited until she had co into the room to open his eyes.
He remained sprawled out, lazily and shalessly naked in front of her.
"Young Master, since you’re leaving today, I feel it’s my duty as your maid to offer a friendly reminder. When you get ho, you really should sleep with so clothes on. Otherwise, if you happen to sleepwalk in the middle of the night, streaking through the streets wouldn’t be a great look. And even if you don’t have a sleepwalking problem, it’s still for your own good. You’d be better off taking my advice."
He nodded. "Mm-hm, alright."
Nora was a little taken aback by how readily he agreed.
"Well then, have a safe trip, Young Master."
"Thank you."
"I wasn’t finished," she continued. "...and disappear sowhere along the way."
Instead of getting angry, Quentin Grant just laughed. "There’s that mischievous side of you again. I like it, though."
"What’s that supposed to an?"
He sat up. "It’s nothing. You can go, I’m going to get dressed."
The corner of Nora’s lip twitched. ’Is he doing this on purpose?’
’He’s been lying here completely exposed, letting see everything, and *now* he decides he needs privacy to get dressed?’
"Okay." ’He’s finally leaving.’
Nora turned away, feeling absolutely ecstatic.
He got dressed, washed up, and then ate his breakfast.
He took out a piece of paper, wrote a few words on it with his own hand, and left it on the table.
Then, he picked up his laptop and went downstairs.
He got into the car. The window was down. She and the housekeeper stood by the entrance, bowing to him.
He gave her a long, deep look and said, "Tidy up the bedroom. I’ll be back in three months. That feels like a long ti, doesn’t it?"
The car pulled away and disappeared through the gates.
The main gate swung shut.
"Go on and tidy the Young Master’s bedroom," the housekeeper said.
She nodded. "Alright."
She cheerfully returned to his bedroom.
Her eyes imdiately fell on a piece of paper on the nightstand.
She picked it up. Written on it were just five words: *Your well-being is my sunshine.*
Nora paused for a mont, then muttered, ’All he does is borrow clichés from the internet. Couldn’t he have written sothing himself?’
She folded the piece of paper and tucked it into her pocket.
Then, for so reason, she found herself falling backward onto the large bed, right where he had just been sleeping.
The scent of him lingered on the pillows.
It was a pleasant sll.
A light, clean fragrance.
Once Nora lay down, she didn’t feel like getting up at all.
It was as if so magical force was pulling her in.
Thinking about how he would be back in three months, she was surprised to find that she didn’t think he was so terrible anymore.
She rolled over on the bed a few tis and pressed a hand to her lower back. The pain had intensified when she woke up this morning, worse than it had been in the past few days.
Even a light touch sent a nearly unbearable spike of pain through it.
The crucial thing was, it wasn’t just her back that hurt. The area ’down there’ was inexplicably swollen too.
How could she not be furious?
’His bed is so soft... Maybe I can just lie here for a little while.’
Nora felt that she could finally relax for the next three months. ’It’s true what they say,’ she thought. ’The most dangerous place is the safest place.’
「After two or three days of staying in touch, the feelings between Jean Grant and Nicholas Ainsworth began to deepen.」
Whenever they had free ti, they would have a al together or spend the night together.
A few days after their relationship was exposed by the dia, reporters pressed Jean Grant for confirmation.
She confird it herself, stating that "life has to go on."
The dia dubbed it Jean Grant’s "second spring."
Most people were optimistic about the match. Although the Ainsworth Group was leagues below the Grant Group, Nicholas Ainsworth was far more reliable than Marlon Marshall. Plus, as the acting head of Ainsworth Group Enterprises, he at least had a respectable career.
When Sharon Ainsworth found out, she was unable to get ahold of Nicholas for several days, so she made a special trip to Ainsworth Group Enterprises that afternoon.
Nicholas Ainsworth was quite surprised to see her.
But he knew she wouldn’t show up for no reason.
"What is it?"
"Nicholas, have you lost your mind?" Sharon Ainsworth slamd her purse down on his desk.
"Go on."
"Why would you get together with Quentin Grant’s sister? Are you trying to humiliate ? You know I was engaged to her brother! I was this close to becoming her sister-in-law! If you’re with her, does that an I’ll have to call *her* sister-in-law?"
Nicholas Ainsworth put down his pen and looked up. "But you *didn’t* beco her sister-in-law, did you? Besides, you don’t have to call her anything right now. We aren’t married. And as for marriage, that’s a long way off. We haven’t even considered it."
"You’re not considering it now, but what about later? Besides, Nicholas, are you only with her because you’re hoping for a partnership with the Grant Group?"
Nicholas didn’t deny it. "I didn’t seek her out on purpose. It just happened. And if our being together can bring benefits to the company, that’s just icing on the cake. It’s all upside."
"She’s been married before! And I heard she was over four months pregnant and had an abortion."
"Who says a divorced woman can’t find true love? Sharon, you’re in no position to judge. I’ve reminded you before... how much better is your own private life, exactly?"
That successfully shut Sharon up.
"If it weren’t for that bitch Nora Ainsworth’s mother, I’d already be married to Quentin Grant. I wouldn’t be in this situation."
Nicholas thought she was being dense. "Even if that hadn’t happened, you might not have married him. Quentin Grant is an incredibly deep and calculating man. Sharon, you will never be able to guess what he’s thinking."
