Mr. Ainsworth was taken aback. "What are you trying to say?"

Mrs. Ainsworth’s expression was lucid. She knew her own physical condition all too well.

"I’m not trying to say anything. I just hope I can do sothing for our Nora before I die. That would be enough."

Mr. Ainsworth’s eyes narrowed, his tone harsh. "What are you planning to do?!"

Mrs. Ainsworth said no more. She pulled her clothes tightly around herself, gave Mr. Ainsworth one last, deep look, then turned and walked into the elevator.

But the elevator didn’t go down. Instead, it began to ascend.

Mrs. Ainsworth was alone in the elevator. He hadn’t followed her. Tears stread down her face.

She had tried her best, but she couldn’t turn the tide. She couldn’t bring their twenty-odd years of love to a proper close, nor could she secure any benefits for her daughter.

Instead, her failing health was just a burden on her daughter.

The elevator went straight to the roof on the fifteenth floor.

She stepped out of the elevator. The wind gusted, blowing grit into her eyes.

She took out her phone, composed a text to the only family she had left in this life, and pressed send.

Standing on the edge of the building, her mind was flooded with every little mont from the past twenty-odd years.

Ti was a true demon, having diluted the feelings between them until nothing was left but the bare bones of a skeleton.

’Now, it was ti for my release. Ti to go to a place where I can forget the pain.’

Mrs. Ainsworth closed her eyes, tucking the phone into her clothes. ’Rather than die in a hospital, I’ll make sure Mr. Ainsworth never forgets for the rest of his life!’

’Be it love or hate, it was all ending now.’

She leaped, ending her forty-two-year-old life. For a mont, she flew through the air, her frail body tracing a parabolic arc as it rapidly descended.

Nora Ainsworth, her face frantic after just receiving the text, hadn’t even taken a single step out of the hotel’s main entrance when a sickening THUD from right in front of her stunned her into silence.

Splattering blood sprayed all over her. The wedding march ca to an abrupt halt as everyone’s gaze fixed on the scene.

Nora Ainsworth was completely stupefied. She couldn’t stop trembling, utterly unable to believe the scene before her. ’Could this be it? The last thing her mother said she would do for her?’

Mrs. Ainsworth lay on the ground, her face covered in blood, her body convulsing. It was obvious she had fallen from above.

Sharon Ainsworth let out a terrified scream and fainted on the spot.

Quentin Grant’s gaze remained fixed on Nora Ainsworth. He watched as she fell to her knees and slowly pulled her mother’s head into her arms. Her lips, turning blue, trembled violently. A few seconds passed before her choked, broken sob tore through the air, "Mom!"

At that mont, a collective sigh of sorrow went through the crowd. Moved by her heart-wrenching sobs, many couldn’t help but be touched.

Mrs. Ainsworth’s lips parted slightly. She raised her hand, trying to touch Nora Ainsworth’s face, but it lifted only a fraction before falling limply to her side.

And she closed her eyes forever.

The snowflakes fell faster and thicker, landing on the people gathered around.

A death at the wedding, the bride in a dead faint... how could this wedding possibly continue?

When Mr. Ainsworth heard the news, he rushed downstairs. He stood there, staring at the scene before him as a flood of mories from their past surged through his mind.

’This woman... she had given the most precious years of her youth.’

’She made mistakes, yes, but there was still a chance for forgiveness.’

Suddenly, Mr. Ainsworth understood Mrs. Ainsworth’s final words to him.

She had said she wanted to do one last thing for her daughter.

Her suicide was a protest directed at him.

This violent death was her final act.

He was still the first to speak, addressing a staff mber beside him. "Call the police. Soone committed suicide."
