It was a bright and sunny morning.
Nora Ainsworth woke up early.
One of the n in Black placed breakfast on the table. "Miss Ainsworth, it’s ti to get up and get ready."
Nora Ainsworth nodded and slowly got out of bed. After coming out of the bathroom, she asked, "Were you on duty last night?"
The Man in Black nodded. "Yes, I was. I was outside the room the whole ti."
"Then, did your Young Master co by?" she asked tentatively.
The Man in Black stood up straight. "Yes. Our Young Master ca with dinner, but he seed to see you weren’t here and left. He was angry when he left. Miss Ainsworth, please do not leave your room without permission again."
Nora Ainsworth picked up her bowl of porridge. "Okay, I understand. You can go now."
Watching the Man in Black leave, Nora Ainsworth felt like kicking herself. ’He’s angry again?’
After breakfast, she tried calling Quentin Grant, but his phone was off.
Nora Ainsworth put down her phone, bored and with nothing to do.
Just as she picked up a book to flip through, the door to her room was thrown open with a BANG. Sharon Ainsworth stood there, her face contorted with rage.
Nora Ainsworth glanced up at her, then went back to her book.
"Nora Ainsworth, you’re so shaless!"
Without even looking up, she sneered, ", shaless? We both know who the shaless one is. Why are you here just to humiliate yourself?"
Sharon Ainsworth locked the door behind her and strode over to Nora, her expression completely warped. She raised a hand to strike, but Nora caught her by the wrist.
"This isn’t your house. Think before you act. You’re not guaranteed to win a fight against ."
The mory of all the reporters ambushing her yesterday and today sent Sharon Ainsworth into a frenzy. She lunged at Nora, flailing wildly like a madwoman, but before she could land more than a couple of blows, Nora sent her flying to the floor with a kick.
"If you want to throw a tantrum, go ho. This is not the place for you to act however you please."
Nora Ainsworth shouted, "n in Black!"
A Man in Black appeared at the door instantly. "Miss Ainsworth, your orders?"
"From now on, this woman is not allowed in my room. Get her out of here now!"
Sharon Ainsworth scread curses, "Nora Ainsworth, you bitch! I hope you die a horrible death!"
The Man in Black dragged her out.
Nora Ainsworth snorted. "You should think about whether you can survive the consequences before you start trouble."
She didn’t regret it. She had been wanting to get revenge on people like Sharon Ainsworth for setting her up for a long ti. This was a good opportunity, wasn’t it?
For two days straight, Leon Lynch visited several tis, but Quentin Grant never appeared.
It wasn’t until the evening of the third day, just after Leon Lynch had left, that Quentin Grant finally arrived.
He was dressed in casual clothes, his expression cold and severe. "Pack your things. You’re going back to convalesce."
Nora Ainsworth asked instinctively, "Miss Callahan is there. Isn’t that... inappropriate?"
Quentin Grant replied leisurely, "You’re just reluctant to leave this place, aren’t you? Afraid Leon Lynch won’t be able to find you when he cos looking?"
"That’s not what I was thinking," Nora Ainsworth flatly denied. "What would I be afraid of? I can just give him a call."
Quentin Grant’s eyes darkened. "Nora Ainsworth, you’re so restless. How about I lock you up at ho for a few years?"
Nora Ainsworth was stunned. "You’re going to imprison ?"
"It’s not out of the question."
"You really are a pervert."
"Just a little. Per, Vert, get Miss Ainsworth packed. We’re going ho!" Quentin Grant turned away.
Nora Ainsworth’s eyes widened. "Per and Vert? Are those your nas?"
The two n in Black answered with deadpan faces, "Yes. These are the new nas the Young Master gave us."
Nora Ainsworth’s mind was a ss.
And just like that, under the cover of night, she was dragged back ho by Quentin Grant.
To be precise, it was Quentin Grant’s ho.
But this ti, it wasn’t as his woman. Instead, she was assigned to the staff dormitories under the guise of a female bodyguard.
Inside the Grant Residence, everyone knew her identity except for Catherine Callahan.
But no one dared to tell her.
Nora Ainsworth was given her own room in the staff dormitory.
It was a small suite with its own bathroom.
It was fully equipped with all the basic necessities; nothing was missing.
Shortly after she returned, Catherine Callahan ca to visit her.
"Miss Ainsworth, how did you get injured?"
Nora Ainsworth forced an impassive smile. "I was injured during a mission. Thankfully, President Grant was considerate enough to let co back here to recover. He even visited in the hospital. It’s nice to have a boss like him."
Catherine Callahan chuckled softly. "That’s true. Quentin has always cared a great deal for his subordinates. Does Herman know you were injured?"
"He knows."
"As long as he knows. Honestly, for soone as rich as him to still be sending you out on missions... it’s just outrageous."
Nora Ainsworth just smiled. "I’m his subordinate, and I was assigned to work for President Grant. Even though Herman and President Grant are good friends, I can’t just quit whenever I feel like it."
’The key is, even if I said I wanted to quit, Mr. Grant would have to agree!’
’This was never sothing she could decide for herself anyway.’
"Focus on your recovery. I’ll co see you again another day." With that, Catherine Callahan left.
Ti passed slowly. By ten o’clock, there was still no sign of Quentin Grant.
Nora Ainsworth wanted to go out for so fresh air. She figured that at this late hour, the few staff mbers in the Grant Residence would likely be asleep.
So, she slowly got out of bed and grabbed a crutch.
She used the back door and made her way into the garden.
The lights of the living room glowed brightly in the distance. She stood there, about to move, when one of the n in Black spotted her.
"Miss Ainsworth, you’re not resting?"
"I just ca out for a walk to stretch my legs. There’s no need to tell Young Master Grant."
The Man in Black nodded. "In that case, Miss Ainsworth, please get so rest soon."
Leaning on her crutch, Nora Ainsworth slowly walked toward a spot in the shadows and sat down on a bench, soaking in the outdoor air without moving.
She looked up, gazing at the stars and the moon, when the sound of footsteps reached her ears.
Since she was sitting on a bench behind a large tree and the footsteps were in front of it, Nora Ainsworth wasn’t alard.
"Miss Callahan, did you have instructions for when you asked to co here?" It was the voice of Yvonne, a young new kitchen helper.
"Yes, actually. I want to ask you a few questions, and I hope you’ll answer truthfully." She took out a card and handed it to her. "There’s a hundred thousand in here. That should last you a while."
Yvonne seed nervous. "Miss Callahan, if you have questions, just ask. I can’t take this money."
"Take it first. I’m just asking a few questions. All you have to do is answer truthfully. First, during the ti I wasn’t here, what won did your Young Master associate with?"
Yvonne rembered the head butler’s instructions. As much as she wanted the money, she knew that accepting it would lead to endless trouble.
"Our Young Master almost never brought any won back. On the rare occasion he did, we didn’t recognize them."
"Then let ask you this: has Nora Ainsworth been here before?"
Yvonne’s palms began to sweat. "She has, but always with Young Master Hawthorne."
Only then did Catherine Callahan nod. "Alright, I understand. You can go back and rest."
Yvonne handed the card back to her. "I really can’t take this money. Please, Miss Callahan, take it back."
Seeing how insistent she was, Catherine Callahan had no choice but to take it back. The two of them then left quickly.
The direction she headed was toward the lit-up living room of the villa.
