Sophie Foster instinctively asked, "What’s wrong with Lara? Is it a terminal illness?"
Her mother’s illness had left a shadow in her heart, so seeing Nicholas Croft’s serious expression, Sophie’s first reaction was that she also had a terminal illness.
She gripped her phone tightly, her fingernails turning white.
"What on earth is going on in that little head of yours?" Nicholas Croft ruffled Sophie’s hair with a mix of frustration and amusent. Ectopic pregnancy sounded severe to him, but her imagination was even more terrifying.
"What is that?"
Sophie’s nerves didn’t relax with Nicholas’s words. She turned her head, her delicate brows furrowed slightly.
"Don’t worry, it’s nothing to be tense about. It’s just my carelessness that caused a little accident for Lara." Nicholas Croft smoothed down Sophie’s ponytail. Being the responsible man he was, he took all the bla on himself.
"Lara is pregnant, but it’s an ectopic pregnancy,"
"What’s an ectopic pregnancy?" Sophie’s brows furrowed even tighter. At only eighteen, there were too many things she didn’t understand.
"An ectopic pregnancy is when the baby doesn’t grow in the environnt it should..." Nicholas patiently explained, detailing the pros and cons before softly coaxing her, "Lara, we’ll stay in the hospital tonight and have the surgery tomorrow, okay?"
Even though Nicholas called it a minor surgery, Sophie was still quite scared. She raised her hand to clutch Nicholas’s clothes and said pitifully, "Lara is scared to be alone, Uncle, will you stay with Lara?"
"Alright, Uncle will go into the operating room with you tomorrow."
Evander Lancaster instructed the nurse to hang the anti-inflammatory IV for Sophie as a preoperative precaution. Nicholas stayed with Sophie in the hospital overnight, and early the next morning, the doctors began preparing for her surgery.
Everything was ready. Nicholas carried Sophie into the operating room. Lying on the operating table, she clung tightly to Nicholas’s hand, not letting go. Her little face was bloodless due to nervousness.
"Uncle, I’m scared!"
"There, there, don’t be scared. Uncle is here with Lara." Nicholas stood by the operating table, dressed in a blue sterile gown, wearing a sterile cap and mask.
The lead surgeon gave a signal to the assistant, who nodded slightly and turned the tube at the head of the operating table toward Sophie, opening the valve. A stream of white gas floated out, and in no ti, Sophie was half-asleep.

The surgery proceeded quickly. In less than an hour, Sophie was pushed into the ward. Nicholas stayed by her side, sitting on a chair and watching her sleep peacefully. From ti to ti, he tidied her hair from her forehead, glanced at the monitor beside the bed, got up to wet a cotton swab, and gently moistened Sophie’s lips with water...
Evander Lancaster ca over after checking the ward, and seeing Nicholas’s ticulous care, couldn’t help but tease, "Big brother, you might as well get a healthcare license; I’m sure you’d pass in one go."
"Evander, do patients usually sleep this much after surgery?" Ignoring Evander’s teasing, Nicholas asked seriously. Evander, with his hands in the pockets of his white coat, plopped down at the foot of the bed. "Knowing little Sophie would be scared, I had the Pharmacist give her general anesthesia... She should wake up by the afternoon, but she can’t eat. Big brother, make sure you rember."
