She puts two vegetable dishes on the dining table, takes off her apron, and stands at the villa’s entrance waiting for the father and daughter to return.
Seeing the familiar license plate slowly driving up, Sophie Foster’s lips naturally curve into a smile. Waiting for the father and daughter to co ho for dinner is her happiest mont.
The black Audi stops in front of Sophie Foster. The car door opens, missing the usual joyous shout of "Mommy." Nicholas Croft steps down from the driver’s seat, looking at her with a serious expression on his handso face.
"Nicholas, where’s the baby?" Sophie Foster asks anxiously, a bad feeling growing in her heart.
"Sophie, there’s bad news. You have to be strong..." Nicholas Croft starts, his hoarse voice choking up, reddening his eyes.
"Nicholas, is it..." Sophie Foster tightly grabs Nicholas Croft’s hands, gazing into his eyes, unable to voice the rest of her sentence.
"Sophie, the baby..." The sorrow was evident on Nicholas Croft’s handso face. His thin lips quivered as he painfully said, "is gone."
"Gone?" Sophie Foster repeated, tears already flowing down, yet she forced a smile and said, "Nicholas, you an the baby was kidnapped by bad people, right? That’s okay, with today’s technology and all the electronic surveillance, if we report it to the police, we’ll definitely find her..."
"Sophie, listen to !" Sophie Foster’s reaction was too abnormal. Nicholas Croft clutched her hands back, frowning and interrupting her, "The baby isn’t missing; she’s gone, had a car accident. We won’t be able to see her again."
"You’re lying!" Sophie Foster shouted, flinging away Nicholas Croft’s hands, shaking her head and retreating repeatedly, mumbling to herself as she did, "That’s impossible, the baby was fine when she went to kindergarten this morning, how could there be a car accident..."
Although Sophie Foster refused to accept it, the rampant tears on her face betrayed her.
