Inside the ambulance, Sophia Hamilton knew well enough that resisting was futile.
Not wanting to waste words anymore, she simply remained silent, letting Evander Lancaster hold her as she turned her face towards the back of the ambulance, watching the vehicles trailing behind.
The ambulance, with sirens blaring, made its way unobstructed to Evander Lancaster’s hospital. It stopped, and one of the dical staff alighted first to assist on the ground, while the other followed behind Evander, closely guarding him as he carried Sophia inside, swiftly entering the hospital building.
Without arranging for Sophia to stay in a patient room, Evander took her to his own lounge, placed her on the bed, and instructed the dical staff to prepare an IV drip and buy breakfast.
Sophia was still wearing the patient’s gown from the previous hospital, and Evander wasn’t worried she’d run off, as he turned back to wash up in the bathroom.
Sophia sat cross-legged on the bed, one hand resting on her knee, the other on her forehead, feeling a bit frustrated, like she was being soft-detained.
After sitting for a while, she suddenly rembered she had missed her work hours without notifying Assistant Zhang. She slid her slippers on and walked into the bathroom, extending her hand in front of Evander, "Lend your phone, I need to call in sick."
Evander was brushing his teeth in front of the sink. He glanced at her, "I’ve already told my second brother."
"I need to call my mom so she doesn’t worry."
"Do you think if Auntie sees you like this, she wouldn’t be worried?" Evander asked back, expressionless.
Sophia...
How did she look like a ss now? Yesterday, it was just overeating ice cream that caused her abdominal pain. Although the child almost got miscarried, she’s fine now!
"Give it to ! I want to call my mom!" Sophia said firmly, but Evander’s attitude was even firr, "No! Get back in bed!"
Seeing Evander’s resolute deanor, Sophia decided not to argue. He’d soon have to do rounds and couldn’t watch her 24/7 anyway.
She let out a cold huff, walked out of the bathroom, and returned to the bed, pulling the quilt over herself angrily.
After finishing his wash, Evander ca out in a robe; he usually lived and ate in his lounge when he was busy.
On the bed, Sophia turned her back to him, clearly in a sulk.
He paused in drying his hair, a faint smile playing on his lips. After finishing, he tossed the towel onto the small tea table and sat on the side of the bed beside her.
His large hand rested on Sophia’s shoulder, "Don’t sleep yet; breakfast will be here soon."
"Not eating!" Sophia said petulantly, suddenly realizing that after all the fuss yesterday, she hadn’t experienced morning sickness.
Evander’s large hand gently rubbed her shoulder and back, his tone softening considerably, "Co on, don’t be mad. Your health is what’s important." Sophia suddenly turned around, threw off the quilt, and sat up, glaring at Evander indignantly and questioning unhappily.
"Evander Lancaster, are you even a man? Who was the jerk yesterday telling not to appear in front of him, and now you’re clinging onto like this? What’s the point!"
Evander’s fox-like eyes narrowed, the gentleness on his handso face vanished. As he t Sophia’s resentful yet slightly mocking gaze, his expression turned icy.
"Whether it makes sense depends on how I feel. You," Evander paused, his long fingers gripping Sophia’s chin, coldly warning, "have no right to refuse!"
