To reach the Sterling Family’s private island, one needs to take a speedboat and also obtain permission from the Sterlings.
Ethan Grant didn’t have the patience or ti for that; he directly took a helicopter and barged in.
On the helicopter, his mind was restless, his heart beating unusually fast. He clasped his hands, "Serena, you must be okay."
The more he thought about it, the more fearful Ethan felt.
"Sir, look!"
Amidst the sound of the helicopter, Yvette Sterling’s voice reached his ears. Following the direction Yvette pointed, Ethan turned his head to look and saw sothing lying on the beach.
With just one glance, Ethan recognized what it was!
He looked away, staring at the helicopter’s windshield.
"Fly over there quickly."
The helicopter landed, and Yvette was the first to get off. She saw it — a wheelchair toppled over there.
"Sir!"
Yvette turned her head, seeing Ethan still sitting in the helicopter, and shouted, "It seems to be the Madam’s wheelchair."
To ensure she saw correctly, Yvette quickly walked over.
Ethan didn’t follow; he slowly got off the helicopter, unsure of what was happening! When his feet touched the ground, he was weak all over, staggering forward a few steps and nearly falling on the sand.
"Sir!"
"It’s the Madam’s..."
Yvette confird frantically, shouting, the wind by the sea was too strong, howling, combined with the helicopter’s noise, all these sounds mixed together, making Ethan’s ears ache, unable to hear Yvette’s words clearly.
He didn’t want to hear it either.
Yvette called for the people from the helicopter to help search for Serena Sullivan’s whereabouts. Ethan stood there, looking up, wanting to move his feet over, but his legs felt too heavy to lift.
So, he didn’t move, glancing at the wheelchair toppled on the beach, taking out a cigarette from his pocket.
He had promised Serena to quit smoking.
At this mont, he just wanted to smoke!
The cigarette between his fingers, his hands trembled violently; a sudden instability caused the cigarette to fall into the sand.
Ethan didn’t bend to pick it up; he took out another one.
Along with it, the lighter ca out, flicking it several tis, unsure if it was due to the strong wind or if today was simply not suitable for smoking.
Again and again, more than twenty attempts, before a fla appeared.
"Sir, I found the Madam’s shoe."
Yvette’s panicked voice ca again, and the fla in Ethan’s hand went out. He looked up to see Yvette not far away holding a shoe.
Ethan didn’t want to look anymore. As he turned his head, he spotted sothing floating on the sea’s surface.
It was far away, supposed to be unclear, but he recognized it.
It was Serena Sullivan’s other shoe.
Her wheelchair was toppled on the beach, one shoe found by Yvette at the shore, the other one floating on the sea — what did this an? Ethan didn’t want to think about it further.
The wind blew, too cold, so cold that a chill spread throughout his body, making his hands tremble even more.
Fear! Panic! All these emotions surged into his heart.
"It’ll be okay!"
Ethan said to himself, slowing his breath, flicking the lighter again, a fla appeared, igniting the cigarette, which he hurriedly placed in his mouth; the panic in his heart not dissipating due to smoking but increasing instead.
"Sir, I’ll call the police imdiately."
Unable to find Serena, Yvette approached, speaking anxiously.
The ocean was vast; if Serena really fell into the sea, she might have been carried away by the tide. They must have the police co and search for her.
But can they still find her?
