With the crisp sound of high heels striking the ground, that elegant and noble middle-aged lady was suddenly standing right in front of them.
Though she was no longer in her youth, ti hadn’t left many marks on her face. The custom-tailored Chanel suit made her slender, graceful figure even more striking.
This was Tyson Law’s mother, Mabel Keaton.
But at this mont, Mabel’s expression was anything but pleasant; she was glaring fiercely at the two who had just co out of the Civil Affairs Bureau, her face darkening instantly.
"Tyson! Are you out of your mind? Did you even take my advice to heart?"
"If Tiberius hadn’t told he saw you dragging Fiona Vaughn to the Civil Affairs Bureau, I would have thought I’d heard a bad joke!"
As Frank Law’s second wife, Mabel had always demanded the highest standards from her own son, Tyson—desperate for him to surpass the eldest son left by Susan Roswell in every way.
But Tyson not only failed to outdo Adrian Law, everything he did made her furious!
Right now, Radiant Group was facing stormy weather, and Cecilia Vaughn had whipped out that inheritance certificate—she clearly wasn’t going to give up until she took a big chunk out of them!
To marry Fiona Vaughn now was basically a losing deal!
...
"Mom... I wasn’t trying to disrespect you, but Fiona, she..."
Tyson had always been a little afraid of his mother. Awkwardly holding Fiona’s hand, his lips suddenly felt glued together, and he could barely stumble out a sentence.
Seeing Tyson looking so timid and useless, Mabel was livid.
"You still have the nerve to call Mom? Tyson, if you have any sense at all, I demand you go right now and annul this marriage certificate—right now! Imdiately! This minute!"
Under Mabel’s piercing and severe scolding, Tyson’s lips trembled, unsure of what to say.
Instead, it was Fiona—who’d always seed so weak—who stepped forward. They already had the marriage certificate in hand anyway, why be afraid of this old hag?
Fiona lifted her chin, tears trembling in her eyes, looking utterly innocent and wronged.
"Auntie, Tyson and I are already legally married—can you really bear to tear us apart?"
As she spoke, Fiona deliberately waved the freshly-acquired marriage certificate, her fragile gaze unable to conceal the pride in her expression.
Mabel, seeing this little white lotus act, nearly exploded with rage.
"You can get divorced as easily as you got married!"
After all, Tyson was a man—no one would call him ’damaged goods’ after a divorce. Dozens of eligible ladies wanted to marry into The Law Group!
If not for the Vaughn Family’s substantial dowry, she’d never have taken a fancy to Fiona Vaughn in the first place!
Yelled at by Mabel, Fiona only looked more pitiful and delicate, shoulders trembling as she shrank into Tyson’s arms, tears gushing forth instantly.
"Tyson, I know Auntie never liked ... but, I already have your baby..."
"Wh-what?!"
Fiona Vaughn was pregnant with her son’s child...
Mabel stood there as if she had been struck by lightning, her whole body frozen in place.
She stared blankly at Fiona, who was now caressing her belly, feeling as though she’d just heard the most unbelievable thing of the century.
"Tyson, didn’t you say she was always insisting on birth control, terrified it would hurt her showbiz career?"
...
Tyson even told his mom THAT?!
Fiona cursed inwardly, but when she looked up, she wore a pleased, blushing smile.
"Auntie, birth control isn’t one hundred percent effective. So this child—he’s a blessing sent from heaven to Tyson and !"
With the baby as her "invincible trump card," Fiona spoke with new confidence.
Everyone knew the chosen heir to The Law Group, Adrian Law, was suprely capable—but word had it he was useless in that departnt!
Adrian had never had a single scandal; even marrying Cecilia Vaughn recently, he kept it so low-key there wasn’t a peep about starting a family. Frankly, the eldest young master was probably impotent—how could he have any heirs?
But not her—Fiona told herself, even if she had to make up a pregnancy now, both she and Tyson were in perfect health. She’d get pregnant soon enough for real!
Fiona’s sche was clear: get the marriage certificate now, have a baby later—by then, she’d rise with her child, and the entire Law Group would be hers for the taking!
...
In this world, not a single hot young starlet would willingly give up her career to marry and have kids—but now...
It takes an old hand to see things through. The more Mabel thought it over, the more sothing felt off.
She studied Fiona’s perfectly flat, unblemished stomach, her elegant brows knitting tighter and tighter.
"Tyson, are you sure she’s really pregnant? Have you had a doctor confirm it?"
How could it be so coincidental—they broke off their engagent, and right after the party, Fiona turns up pregnant?
...
Fiona cursed silently, but the smile on her face was as steady as ever, and she lowered her head with feigned shyness.
"Auntie, Tyson and I just ca from the hospital this morning."
Mabel didn’t believe a word, her face icy, and instantly pulled Tyson over.
"Call Doctor Peter right now. I want him to run an exam on the spot!"
Fiona hadn’t expected Mabel to play this card. Her face turned pale in an instant.
"A-auntie, isn’t that really unnecessary...?"
Tyson simply thought Fiona felt insulted by Mabel’s suspicion, not realizing she was panicking. He pulled her into his arms to comfort her.
"Fiona, don’t be afraid. Mom’s just anxious for a grandson. Once Doctor Peter confirms everything, she won’t oppose our marriage anymore."
Fiona: "B-but..."
eting the ferocious glint in Mabel’s eyes, Fiona imdiately clamped her mouth shut, realizing that even one more word would give herself away. She could only nod awkwardly.
...
Doctor Peter soon arrived with specialized HCG and progesterone test kits. He drew a small vial of Fiona’s blood, and in two hours, they’d have an answer.
Fiona stared blankly as her blood sample was taken away, and was then hastily pulled into another room for an ultrasound.
When she ca out, she was like an ant on a hot pan—panicked, clueless what to do next.
What do I do?!
She’s about to get exposed!
What will Tyson think of her?
And that old witch, Mabel, what would she do to her?
The answer was bearing down on her, terrifying Fiona. She bitterly regretted making up this fake pregnancy—if only ti could just stand still.
But, what must co, cannot be avoided.
Doctor Peter, blond hair gleaming, ca walking out with a big smile.
"Madam, Second Young Master, congratulations, Miss Fiona is just over a month pregnant!"
...
Mabel was dumbstruck, while Tyson was hugely relieved.
"I knew Fiona would never lie to ..."
But as for Fiona herself, hearing the result, she collapsed onto her chair in shock!
Over a month?
How... how is that possible...
Every ti she was with Tyson they used protection, but a month ago she went to see Chloe Alden’s uncle for the ASC Television contract dispute...
That night, she’d had way too much to drink...
